Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone tried the LensSack Jr. with a gimbal head? Would like to use the Jr. with a gimbal head and Nikon 600 f/4 while in Kenya.

A: According to LensCoat, you may add a gimbal to this product via the 3/8-16” mounting plate.

Q: 2. Was wondering based on the comment about the top buckle if one could add a strap between the D-rings on one side to pull it up to it's "standing" position. any ideas from owners?

A: Yes, that should work as you describe above.

Q: 3. I'd like to use buckwheat hulls to fill this. How much do I need to purchase?

A: When using the LensCoat LensSack Pro Jr Beanbag Support it is good to use a little less than 6 lbs of "buckwheat hulls"

Q: 4. How many bags of poly beads are needed?

A: The LensCoat LensSack Pro Beanbag Support measures 11 x 8 x 7.5", which is 10.82 liters. It is not an exact rectangle though; there is an opening at the bottom that will reduce the size of the bean bag. The Kinesis Poly Bead Fill for SafariSack 4.2 (B&H # KIR142) is 4.2 liters—I would recommend buying two bags.

Q: 5. it's come Empty or Filled with Sunflower Seeds?

A: It comes empty. We filled with plastic chips we bought at Hobby Lobby. Took quite a few bags. Kinda expensive but they won't mold or grow anything. ( you could look for larger bags online or eBay )

Q: 6. Any idea how many lbs of buckwheat hulls it would take to fill this? For example using B&H # KIR428H MFR # R428H. Thanks.

A: I bought a 5-lb bag of buckwheat hulls and ended up using approximately 4 lbs. It actually took more than I would have estimated.

Q: 7. What is the best size LensCoat LensSack beanbag for use with a Nikon 200-500mm lens: Junior or full size?

A: I watched a video on this and the smaller bag seems to be the right size for that lens. LensCoat has the video. And Id think if youre shopping for bean bag supports, youd know this isnt a bag or case...lol

Q: 8. It looks like some of the beanbag camera supports come already filled and some don't. Does this one come filled? It doesn't state specifically, so I want to make sure. Thanks!

A: I fill mine with sunflower seed. Empty it later or anywhere for the birds. No littering.

Q: 9. Does this beanbag flatten down at all for travel when empty of bean/hull filling?

A: Yes, the LensCoat LensSack Pro Jr Beanbag Support does flatten down when empty.

Q: 10. does this bag good enough to support 400-600mm tele lenses ?

A: Absolutely. I use it with a canon 600 f4l is and 1DX. Works great.

[Cordura] I was on the boat and since the boat is not that big for my tripod I used this beanbag, it was perfect for my space and I jus put it on the front side of the boat and have the 1DX and Canon 800mm on top of it and went to shoot for Loons feeding their chicks. Very useful in a mobile transportation. Very easy to handle in a situation where the birds are just in the water and just swimming around like the mother and father loon. The photos I included in my review are all single exposure and taken with the use of this beanbag. I perfectly capture the loon fishing with the tremendous details. The other photo the loon was stretching wings, i captured the details in the lights and shadow so vividly including the water.

[Black] I recommend filling with something not heavy like buckwheat husks but works great with anything just can get pretty heavy. Especially with a wimberley gimbal attached but I love the stability with 200-600 Sony, 1.4x tele, and Sony a7riv with grip.

[Black] loaded with about 14 ponds of crack corn. The seam and material are well made. The bag and ball head mount works great. I use it with a Nikon d810 and Nikon 200-500mm lens was stable. I will keep it in my truck so if I come upon some photo op I will be ready.

[Black] I filled this beanbag with 8 pounds of pinto beans and it is ready to go. Using it with my long lenses is great. Super support in the car window or when lying on the ground. Could not be better constructed. As always, B&H is great!

[1.3 lb] It is quite flexible, if you want, it can not only be used as regular bean bag and also you can mount a gimbal head on it.

[1.3 lb] I've used this product with my 600mm lens when shooting from a vehicle. It's heavy enough (when filled with birdseed) to remain stable, even when raising or lowering the window to position the lens. I travel by air with it empty and fill it when I arrive at my destination. A rolled hotel towel(s) will reduce the volume of seed needed. I prefer this to the smaller version and feel it cradles my lens -a feature I find comforting from a lens-safety standpoint (as opposed to my puffinpad or pool noodle DIY's). While I find the product line somewhat pricey, all lens coats, covers, tripod leggings etc are always quality products. I endorse them.

[Black] Going to Africa in 3 months. A lot of time on safari, so I hear, you can't get out of the jeep for safety reasons. So I felt a bean bag would be better than some sort of window clamp or tripod in the vehicle. My travel tripod head mounted easily. I filled it with 3-4 lbs. of sunflower seeds all in small baggies. So it's not too heavy and is very stable. I suppose if I was using a $10,000 600mm canon that weighed over 10 lbs. I'd go with the larger LensSack. but for me this is perfect

[1.3 lb] I bought the LensSack Pro Jr to use in conjunction with my Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary. It was smaller than I had anticipated but am happy to report that it holds up just fine with D800 plus a Beike BK-45 gimbal. The LensSack comes with a metal plate that inserts into the top of the sleeve. A plastic washer/bush is placed on top of the fabric to protect it against whatever tripod head you decide to attach. I opted to fill the LensSack with basmati rice. While this does make it significantly heavier than filling with the recommended sunflower seeds, I find the smaller size of the rice grains gives a more solid product and sturdier as a result. It has a multitude of uses, from car windows, walls, fallen or low hanging branches or even on the ground. For low angle work, it's great and I love the freedom it gives you, especially if in a confined space. While I like my tripod, I'm forever tripping over the legs when you have little room to move. Provided you achieve the required height for your shot and can adjust your angles via a gimbal, the LensSack is fantastic. The carry handles make transportation easy and the construction and materials of the product are high. My only negative point is that there aren't double zippers, which I was a little disappointed about. Even my cheap studio sandbags are double zippered to ensure the contents don't leak. A minor point but, I worry about catching the zipper tag on something as I move location and it pulls open, spilling my basmati rice contents all over the ground and potentially ruining a days shoot. Other than that, I can't fault it. The LensSack is very versatile, portable and performs very well, considering the amount of weight it supports.
