Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Was wondering based on the comment about the top buckle if one could add a strap between the D-rings on one side to pull it up to it's "standing" position. any ideas from owners?

A: Yes, that should work as you describe above.

Q: 2. How many bags of poly beads are needed?

A: The LensCoat LensSack Pro Beanbag Support measures 11 x 8 x 7.5", which is 10.82 liters. It is not an exact rectangle though; there is an opening at the bottom that will reduce the size of the bean bag. The Kinesis Poly Bead Fill for SafariSack 4.2 (B&H # KIR142) is 4.2 liters—I would recommend buying two bags.

Q: 3. Shooting from a Silverado pickup with a Nikon D810 and a Sigma Sport 150-600mm lens, would the Pro or the Jr. be a better choice?

A: The jr. works fine w/ my 400 mm lens and small car. But I'd say the Pro would be better for your lens and bigger vehicle.

Q: 4. does this bag good enough to support 400-600mm tele lenses ?

A: Absolutely. I use it with a canon 600 f4l is and 1DX. Works great.

Q: 5. Has anyone tried the LensSack Jr. with a gimbal head? Would like to use the Jr. with a gimbal head and Nikon 600 f/4 while in Kenya.

A: According to LensCoat, you may add a gimbal to this product via the 3/8-16” mounting plate.

Q: 6. What quantity of poly pellets would be good to go with this?

A: Fill to the desired level of support. The quantity may vary.

Q: 7. How many bags of Kinesis Poly Bead Fill for SafariSack 4.2 are required to fill this beanbag?

A: Based on my calculations you will need about 2.6x Kinesis Poly Bead Fill for SafariSack 4.2 to fill LensCoat LensSack Pro Beanbag Support (Pro Realtree Max4, Empty). You can double check my calculations. The Kinesis Poly Bead Fill for SafariSack 4.2 is 4.2 liters. LensCoat LensSack Pro Beanbag Support measures 11 x 8 x 7.5" and that is 10.82 liters. 10.82/4.2=2.6

Q: 8. Would this bag be oK to use with a Sigma 500 f4.5 lens?

A: I bought it to use with my Sigma 150-600 and it works great! I've used it to support lenses on the hood of my car and by slipping it over the door to shoot bald eagles using the car as a blind. I have the metal plate but have not used it yet as I just don't seem to need it. Maybe use it this spring to shoot bears in Yellowstone as it will be easier to swivel the lens. I filled mine with packing peanuts to keep it light weight for carrying along with other camera gear.

Q: 9. What is the best size LensCoat LensSack beanbag for use with a Nikon 200-500mm lens: Junior or full size?

A: I watched a video on this and the smaller bag seems to be the right size for that lens. LensCoat has the video. And Id think if youre shopping for bean bag supports, youd know this isnt a bag or case...lol

Q: 10. What about sewing quality and quality of materials? Does sewing damage with time?

A: We cannot say how long this will last as there are way too many variables on how one uses it. But LensCoat makes a good product and is a good company.

[Cordura] Looks and works great. Could have gone smaller, may just have to have both.

[1.3 lb] I bought two: a large and a small. Filled with bird seed and can empty around my feeders when I get home or in the field. Perfect for my Nikon 200-500 lens and the smaller for my other lenses.

[Zipper] Great product for shooting from your vehicle. I just filled it with black sunflower seeds so it is not very heavy. It just nestles around the long lenses perfectly when I shoot from inside the vehicle or place it on the hood of the truck.

[Cordura] Works well as a low-tech solution for shooting from the car. I wasn't looking for something to connect a gimbal head to and this was a low cost and effective option. I filled mine with sunflower seeds as suggested by LensCoat (for what it's worth, I first used rice and found it to be too dense for comfortably lifting it across the car to put in place). It's nice that it can easily be emptied for travel.

[1.3 lb] I've only used it a couple of times so far but it works great using a 600mm lens shooting from my truck.
