Its 0.3 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. A: It is always better to use as few filters in front of the lens as possible so one 20 stop filter would be a better choice.

I realize this sounds like a silly question, but since these filters appear to have identical coating on both sides, I'm curious if it should make a difference? Should I assume that the side with the engraved writing be facing AWAY from the camera? I just received 3 of these (3, 5, and 7 stop filters) and a bit dumbfounded! A: Since both sides have identical coating, it doesn't matter which way the filter is facing. We've taken them out on several shoots without noticing a difference either way.
