Short telephoto prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 160mm equivalent focal length.

Ideal for macro shooting, this lens offers a half life-size 1:2 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 1.4' to suit working with close-up subjects.

Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also enables extensive control over depth of field.

Planar optical design affords high sharpness and consistent performance throughout the focusing range to suit photographing at a wide range of imaging scales.

Two anomalous partial dispersion elements are used to significantly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and color fidelity.

ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.

Floating elements system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range.

Manual focus design is benefitted by focusing and depth of field scales along with hard stops at both infinity and minimum focusing positions.

Weather-resistant construction includes internal seals to guard against dust and moisture as well as a blue sealing ring at the lens mount to protect the lens-camera interface.

All-metal lens barrel has a frosted, anodized surface along with a rubberized focusing ring for both durability and improved tactile control.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can you pull focus with this for wireless fallow focus? I heard no because unlike the other Miller's the focus ring moves up and down the length of the barrel but some people say that is not true only the barrel extends or contracts making the ring still work for fallow focus

A: Just keep in mind the focus is a 360 degree turn from start to finish. It is also super sharp, the slightest movement takes the subject out of focus, of course depending on distance from the subject.

Q: 2. Country of manufacture...?

A: The ZEISS Milvus 2/100 lens is designed by ZEISS in Germany and manufactured in Japan to our high standards.

Q: 3. Is the lens compatible with Nikon F100, like Aperture Priority, and with the CPU chip as well?

A: Yes, the ZEISS Milvus 100mm f/2M ZF.2 Macro Lens for Nikon F is compatible with the Nikon F100 35mm SLR Camera. ZF.2 lenses support all key modes (e.g. aperture priority, shutter priority, program AE or manual exposure settings) on camera models equipped with an electronic interface (e.g. current Nikon DSLR cameras, and the F100). To do so, simply lock the aperture ring in the largest f-stop (e.g. 16) shown in orange. The lens is a manual focus lenses with CPU chip.

Q: 4. Curious, how can you do maKros if this lens makes only 1:2? Does Zeiss make extension tubes that B&H does not carry? Would not mount a Kenko behind this lens :-)Thank you.

A: Lenses are considered a macro if they have a magnification ratio of 1:2 or greater. Any 3rd party extension tube would be compatible with the ZEISS Milvus 2/100 and would not impact the image quality, since there are no additional optics introduced.

Q: 5. How many blades in the f/stop mechanism?

A: This lens will have a 9 blade aperture.

Q: 6. Can you use Lee filters on this lens?

A: Yes, the ZEISS Milvus 100mm f/2M ZE Macro Lens for Canon EF uses a 67mm filter size. So all you need to make sure is that the you get a 67mm Lee adapter ring that is for the specific Lee holder you want.

Q: 7. Is it a plastic hood that will protect the lens or a metal hood that will transmit shock and warp or ding??

A: The lens hood is metal.

Q: 8. Is this a good lens for portaits or is it specifically conceived for macro?Using it for portraits will it be using a great lens for the wrong application? Thanks for clarifying

A: The ZEISS Milvus 2/100M lens incorporates a floating lens element design, which optimizes the focus from macro through infinity. As a result, the lens can also be used as a short telephoto or portrait lens.

Q: 9. I’m wanting to digitize a lifetime of 35mm film, and rephotographing rather than scanning seems to be the only practical way due to time and speed of operation. Concerned that this lens does not do 1:1. Was this limitation part of the optical design, or will an extension tube solve the problem? Any advice how to proceed, or an alternate approach?

A: ZEISS designed the Milvus Makro lenses with faster, f/2 apertures compared to other macro lenses. This resulted in a lens with a 1:2 magnification ratio, but that was also a useful short tele lens for portraiture and other applications. If image magnifications of 1:1 or higher are required, then extension tubes or extension bellows are useful accessories and do not impact the image quality.

Q: 10. How would this f2/M look in a medium shot during an interview in comparison to the f/1.4 ZE?

A: This is a difficult question to answer, since some of the differences are subjective. If judging contrast and sharpness, you can view the MTF charts in the technical data sheets located at a href= http://zeiss.com/photo. target= _blank zeiss.com/photo./a This will allow you to compare how the Milvus 2/50M appears at wide open aperture to the new Milvus 1.4/50. Aside from this, the main differences are in the DOF and out of focus qualities. In this case, neither is better than the other, it is a matter of your own tastes and needs.

[Full-Frame] The ZEISS Milvus 100mm f/2M ZE Macro "has it all" for professional macro photography - Super sharp lens even at wide open aperture (and very sharp at f5.6 to f16), color rendering is just beautiful and the way it controls highlights is superb! the only thing you have to be aware of is the color fringing that is noticeable when you shooting at f2 wide open (easy fix in Capture One or Lightroom) - but it disappears at f3.5 and beyond. It's a wonderful high-quality lens especially for studio work using a tripod and manual focus.

[Canon EF] Really nice for close-ups and macro. I like the DOF that the 1:2 magnification provides; especially with crop frame.

[Full-Frame] I shoot primarily with a Nikon D850 and I am a stickler for clarity and resolution. The Zeiss Milvus 100mm f/2 ZF.2 delivers that plus amazing clarity and beautiful color rendition. I bought the Zeiss primarily for macro, but it is also a stunning portrait lens. I love my Sigma Art lenses, but I may have to save up for a Zeiss Otis next.

[1:2] This is Milvus lens is used on a Nikon D850. After having used this lens for a month now I feel compelled to write this review. This is not so much about the technical aspect of this lens as anyone considering this lens most likely has studied the specifications. The manual focusing of this lens should not be a deterrent as the long focus throw is simply as precise as it gets. I use this lens on a tripod for slow and deliberate photography. It is very satisfying to slow down and compose and have control of the situation. The color rendering is stunning. I cannot say enough superlatives about the Milvus 100m F/2. Without hesitance I say this lens is special in a way that's hard to describe. Please see my samples below. Thank you.

[f/22] Agree almost completely with MAD USA REVIEW, albeit have only limited experience with Canon and Hasselblad cameras and have been using the D810 with the Zeiss Milvus 100mm mostly sporadically. But like many others I am really impressed by the optic quality of the images I get at shutter speeds greater than about 1/250 s under reasonable light conditions, hand-held or using a monopod and a remote release cable. The macro images are impressive in terms of color saturation and detailed textures at proper white balance. Depth of field at apertures of 16 does not seem to visibly degrade image quality.

[67 mm (Front)] I thank all those good reviews in helping me to make the dive in buying this Zeiss 100mm 7 months.

Don't spend your money on it if you are pressing for time or you need a lens to take fast action shots because until you master the manual focusing skills on using manual lenses, regardless which brand, you need that fast focusing ability of modern lenses to capture your action shots!

Buy it only if you can afford the time to focus it right by using the focusing aid on you live view or screen. Focus confirmation on the camera helps a lot but it is not very accurate in all cases.

The contrast and colors this lens and a few other of the Zeiss lenses that I have also used produced can bring out ordinary scenes amazing results that my other L lenses can't. You can easily search online videos and images on the quality of the Zeiss lenses.

Buy it only you have already have other normal and decent quality auto focus lenses because only then you will realize what you have missed.

There is no bad things about this lenses other than it is it is not light. I use it with a tripod about 85% of the time. I don't remember how heavy was the then new Leitz 90mm tele Elmarit I used in the 60's but I think this 100mm is heavier and bulkier than the 90mm.

The end result of any thing you take with this lens as compare to your normally use auto focus modern lenses, it out shines them all easily. I like the natural colors, brilliant contrast and fine details this 100mm recorded on my shots.

I like to give a thought to those who like to take close up pictures of insects and anything that is small and moving, in the Canon line, the Canon 180mm L is a must have lens, as least it is to me for years! The 180mm is one of the sharpest lenses money can buy in that focal range.

Enjoy your shopping!
