Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What else do I need to stream from this gear?

A: To stream from the HDMI output on this switcher you could look in to HDMI Capture Device which will allow you to capture the signal for streaming in to your computer. The BMD UltraStudio Mini Recorder is a good option for people with a Mac that has a Thunderbolt connection. Magewell makes a very nice solution for PC/Mac users who have a USB 3.0 connection. The Magewell device is even backwards compatible with USB 2.0. Another solution is streaming devices that will allow you to send the signal directly to the web. The Teradek VidiU will allow you to send the signal to a variety of streaming services.

Q: 2. Can this switcher store a logo?

A: No, as there is no usb memory port

Q: 3. I would like to use a c100 with the roland. I don't plan on inputting 24p from the c100. Is there any other compatibility or quality issue that I should be aware of? Has anyone tried this to see if it works and have any opinion to share? The issue is the c100 is non refundable and I would not be able to return it if it doesn't work.

A: The Roland V-1HD Portable 4 x HDMI Input Switcher will take the Canon C100 and C100 Mark II signals of 1080p or 1080i at 59.94 and 50 with no issue. It will not take 24 or 25p. That is because there is little call for switchers to do cinema frame rates.

Q: 4. Please, what is the extra port beside both the mic and phone - the one with the 2 dots?

A: The extra port next to the Mic and Phone connections with the 2 dots is actually a volume control for the Mic Input and Headphone output.http://bit.ly/2aIAA5S

Q: 5. Does anyone who owns this have an issue with one of the main buttons sticking? I just received my brand new switcher today and Button 1 on the A bus (top row) has a tendency to stick when you press it in all the way (it stays de-pressed). It still works well and if you don't press it in all the way, it's fine. But I can't get the others to stick even if I tried but this one sticks every so often when it's pushed in all the way. It usually pops back up shortly after or you can sort of wiggle it and it'll pop up again, but I can't imagine this is normal...or is it? Outside that it all works flawlessly and I LOVE the iPad app!!

A: The buttons on this unit really should not be be sticking. Feel free to contact us at cs@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a if you feel like this is an issue you'd like addressed.

Q: 6. Does the V1-HD accept both PAL and NTSC signals?

A: Yes it does, this can be set for either PAL or NTSC signals.

Q: 7. Using two hdmi inputs can the child picture be altered in size and be moved to any desired position on the maim picture?

A: You will be able to adjust the position of the smaller image on the screen when using Picture-In-Picture Mode. You will also be able to change the color and the width of the border around the smaller image, however you will not be able to change the size of the smaller image itself.

Q: 8. how do i broadcast in youtube with this?

A: You need to encode the Roland's output so you can get it into your computer. Once in the computer, the video will mount on your desktop. Then open YouTube and select your video stream and you are on your way. Please see the attached for a recommended encoder, the Magewell XI100DUSB HDMI USB 3.0 Capture Dongle.

Q: 9. What program or device is recommended for playing mpeg videos? Ideally, the video would automatically play when that source is selected so the operator doesn't have to press play after the source is selected.

A: The Roland V-1HD is HDCP compliant, which gives you a wide variety of options for MPEG Video Playback. You could connect a computer with an HDMI output directly to this unit, or you could look at Media Players with HDMI like a Roku or Apple TV. You could even connect a tablet to this switcher and play back video that way. However there is no product available that will automatically start playing when you switch to the assigned channel, the operate will have to manually start the video.

Q: 10. Is the RPU-3 pedal compatible with this keyboard?

A: The JUNO-DS88 has basic hold (damper) and control inputs. You would not be able to take full advantage of the RPU-3 functionality.

[61 x 18 x 9"] I purchased mine from a different retailer here in Canada, I've had 0 issues with overheating or issues of that sort. I think a particular con that should be noted though, is that it does have fans, and like most other switchers I have used, in a quiet room it is relatively very loud for such a small unit. The ATEM TV studio had fins on the rear that you could cook eggs on when it was running, but it was silent. The ease of traveling with this thing is sort of life changing. I'll take its shortcomings (not many worth noting for price and size really) with grace. I highly recommend it.

[Preset: 128] I have been using Roland synthesizer since the 1980s. I am a hard to convince consumer when it comes to analog modeling and this one is probably some of the best I've heard from Roland. The ability to stack all of your different synthesizer models on top of one another is amazing. it's very convincing and is just gorgeous sounding. The keyboard feels good and the flow is incredible with all of the polyphony it sounds huge!

[61 x 18 x 9"] Still working on a second order to get all the needed cables/accessories to fully use the Roland V-1SDI with my cameras but wanted to preemptively put a review on B&H.

I bought a refurbished V-1SDI through B&H while they were also on the Deal Zone. Ended up saving close to $1000 on my unit by shopping here. For a small business that is just starting to invest in mobile broadcasting, this incredible deal is helping my bottom line.

Will update this review as I get more hands on experience, till then kudos to B&H!

[61 x 18 x 9"] Will update review as I log some more hours on this unit, as I havent had a chance to do much more than turn it on.

Was pretty blown away at the deal I got through B&H. First I bought a refurbished Roland V-1SDI for close to $400 off due to it being refurbished, I had been saving for this to incorporate live streaming into my business. Then one morning I log on, and the V-1SDI refurbished units are on sale in the Deal Zone for $499..... Take my money! Saved close to $1000 by buying refurbished on additional sale from B&H.

Currently have the rest of the cables/accessories to fully test the unit. Will update the review as I put more hours into the unit.

[Preset: 128] This is a fantastic piece of equipment. I absolutely love it. Well made, light, and loaded with features. I purchased AV Matrix converter boxes to use with the Roland v-1SDI; HDMI to SDI, and SDI to HDMI. The v-1SDI is easy to use, and has an intuitive interface. The free Roland companion software works great too. Dollar for dollar, this Roland device is an extraordinary value. Get it's matching case too.

[16 parts] This is an update to a previous review; Roland proactively contacted me based on my previous feedback (quoted as originally written below) and has done a great job of making things right and standing behind their product. Roland Technical Support was prompt and professional in exchanging the defective unit we had received initially for a replacement unit; in addition to the manufacturer's own burn-in and testing period, we've used the replacement switcher on some fairly hot days outside and the it has been stable. The surface of the switcher still gets noticeably warm, but no further crashes or instability have been reported from the field, and it does a great job of being a simple yet powerful little switcher. It's not without a few quirks and default settings that should always be checked - most notably, the sleep timer that isn't disabled by default - but it's a great value and for simple jobs, nice and easy to just setup and go compared to anything else in this price range. ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM 4/10/17, which this review replaced: Except for the fact that it has repeatedly overheated, in the middle of a show, dropping all inputs and outputs until it is manually power-cycled, it's a *fantastic* piece of gear. Until Roland comes up with a solution / better thermal design in hardware, it's probably best to stick with the older, more stable V-1HD and spend the money you'll save on a few SDI/HDMI converters....
