Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The CT 505 Hard Case is pictured with the lens. Is it included?

A: Yes, the 500 mm Nikon lens I bought from B & H Photo arrived inside a CT 505 case.

Q: 2. Is a plain glass protection filter available for this lens? I usually put them on my lenses just to keep the front glass clean.

A: No. There are no threads to accept a filter, and even if there were the weight of that much glass would throw off the very good balance of the lens. The front element of the lens is, essentially, plain glass and designed to protect the optical elements and be replaced at reasonable cost if it is damage. It has a coating that repels dust and fingerprints very well. In other words, this lens has a plain glass protection filter built in.

Q: 3. Was this Gray Market or did it have a USA warranty when purchased new?

A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens linked to this question is new and not used or gray market. It has a USA Nikon Limited 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty.

Q: 4. will this 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Lens work with Vello Extension Tubes that are Nikon F mount?

A: Yes, Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Lens will work with Vello Extension Tube Set for Nikon F mount.

Q: 5. Is there a pinch lens cover for this lens?

A: There are no pinch lens caps for the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens.

Q: 6. Has Anyone who owns this lens found a good quality plate that fits well?

A: I recommend that you replace the factory foot with a Kirk LP-47, which has an Arca-Swiss base. You'll save weight and have a more stable base compared with adding a plate to the factory foot. In addition, the Kirk foot is designed perfectly to accept a BlackRapid shoulder strap connector.

Q: 7. Anyone use the 600 for sports? I currently use a 300mm f/2.8 on a D850 and find it too short for soccer/rugby fields. great for baseball and basketball. Not sure if I need to go to 400-500-600mm.

A: Given the much greater 600mm telephoto reach, if your current longest lens is a 300mm then this would be a worthy addition. To get an idea of what that would be like, at 600mm you're seeing 25 percent of the frame you see when you're at 300mm. That's four times as "close." Having said that, especially since you're shooting with such a high resolution camera, you'll want to use a tripod or monopod so that camera shake doesn't rob you of any of the detail that your sensor can capture.

Q: 8. Will this work with the new D500 that's coming?

A: I was able to use it on D300. It should also work on D500.

Q: 9. Will this work with the TC14EIII teleconverter?

A: The Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III is compatible with this lens.

Q: 10. Will this lens work with the Nikon D780, and provide all functions?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens is fully compatible with the Nikon D780 DSLR Camera. All lens functions can be used.

It s fast action overall sharpness and smooth bokeh is very pleasing. Its my got to lens in the car for drive by shots on the way home from work when i usually spot some birds to other wildlife. Combined with the Nikon D 5 its a perfect setup.I did not see any flaws and use it very often with the TC E III . Below picture taken with 1.4TCE @ f8 ,1/2000, iso 900

[Waterproof] The results have been crystal clear from the first use and since. On a D4S or an D810 with or without a TC 1.4 III I have not had a bad photograph. The only down side is the size, but for the sharpness I will persevere. Highly recommend this to anyone who needs this reach.

[Waterproof] This does everything it promises to do. Im not sure its fooling any of the birds Im shooting, but they do seem to ignore me more. Ive got these on two of my other lenses and they help a lot with spray on the bow of a boat.

[0.53 lb] This lens coat works very well with this lens. As others have noted, the window for the switches isn't open, so switching is a little bit of a hassle, but I don't change these settings often, so it's not really been an issue for me. So, it's good protection with the added benefit of camouflage.

[Waterproof] As my title suggests, I bought this lens mostly for maximum reach. When this lens first arrived at my house I immediately put it to work to test it out. I almost returned it until I figured out how to work with this lens because it is different from any other lenses I have including other telephoto lenses. I wasn't getting sharp photos until I figured out that I had to use the normal VR setting on the lens regardless of the shutter speed in order for the lens to compensate for shutter, tripod and camera vibrations. I have been used to using my also an excellent optical old Nikon 300mm f/4 lens for birding/wildlife and even portraits which has no VR and never needed VR and got excellent photos with it. Now when I shoot wildlife, I have my new 600 fl F/4 vr lens w/1.4 tele mounted on my Nikon D7200 and mounted on my heavy duty Induro tripod w/gimbal head for the long reach photos while at the same time I have my old Nikon 300 F/4 w/1.4 tele mounted on my Nikon D4 which I shoot handheld for the closer ups and birds in flight photos. With these two set ups, I have all of my bases covered and both systems produce excellent quality photos that fill the frame at almost any distance near or far. Even if you have to splurge a little, get this lens - you will not regret it and will be glad you got it. Happy shooting

[Waterproof] So far I’ve not put this creation through it’s paces. I’ve yet to find a tripod gimble combination that will fit me. It’s just going to have to go on my studio tripod for now. It’s Like our heads and neck. Like balancing a Faberge’ egg on a pixie stick (BBT Sheldon Cooper.)
