Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What tripod would you recommend with this lens as well as a Gimbal?

A: For use with a gimbal, we'd always recommend slightly taller since when aimed skyward, the working eye-level of your camera is lowered. Too low of a tripod and you'd have to bend forward to use. I'd recommend a series 3 or 4 systematic-style tripod from Robus, Gitzo, Induro, RRS, etc. for use with a gimbal like the Wimberley WH200 https://bhpho.to/3ow9kMh or Gitzo fluid gimbal head (may also be used quite well with spotting scopes) https://bhpho.to/3sfbmmi.

Q: 2. Will this work with the TC14EIII teleconverter?

A: The Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III is compatible with this lens.

Q: 3. Would this lens work with my Nikon D7100 camera and would the AF work at all f stops?

A: This lens will work fine with the Nikon D7100. Concern about f/stops comes into play only if the maximum aperture is too small for whatever camera is being used to focus with. This is a concern with tele-extenders and cameras less than the top level. Since you are not using any tele-extender, and the focus aperture is f/4 and the lens will stop down to whatever aperture you select for the shot, there will be no issue regarding AF or f/stops.

Q: 4. Was this Gray Market or did it have a USA warranty when purchased new?

A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens linked to this question is new and not used or gray market. It has a USA Nikon Limited 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty.

Q: 5. Will this work with the new D500 that's coming?

A: I was able to use it on D300. It should also work on D500.

Q: 6. IS THIS LENS IS MADE IN JAPAN?

A: Yes

Q: 7. will this contain a 600mm f/4E FL with a lenscoat neoprene cover already on it?

A: This Lens Coat Travel Coat for Nikon 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens designed specifically for the lens.

Q: 8. Hi!how much vignetting can you consider as normal on this tele?. On my Newly purcased(in Sweden) it’s a major component on pictures with full opened aparture!

A: This lens would not be subject to vignetting.

Q: 9. Anyone use the 600 for sports? I currently use a 300mm f/2.8 on a D850 and find it too short for soccer/rugby fields. great for baseball and basketball. Not sure if I need to go to 400-500-600mm.

A: Given the much greater 600mm telephoto reach, if your current longest lens is a 300mm then this would be a worthy addition. To get an idea of what that would be like, at 600mm you're seeing 25 percent of the frame you see when you're at 300mm. That's four times as "close." Having said that, especially since you're shooting with such a high resolution camera, you'll want to use a tripod or monopod so that camera shake doesn't rob you of any of the detail that your sensor can capture.

Q: 10. will this lens suffer performance when attached to the Z9 via the FTZ II lens adapter?

A: The performance of this Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens would not suffer when attaching it to the Nikon Z9 via the FTZ II Lens Adapter.

[Realtree Max4] This is the sharpest camera lens I have ever owned. The tiny feather details it captures on birds is astounding. I am using it coupled with small pixel bodies with no anti-aliasing filter (D500 or D850) and I am repeatedly thrilled to bird with it. Even massively cropped this combo can really perform -- even if cropped to where pixels are shown 1:1 on screen, it still looks sharp.

The out of focus areas and the color rendition can make scenes look like paintings. The bokeh is gorgeous at f/4 and the lens is still insanely sharp. This is a breathtaking optic.

I used a 500mm G for the year prior and this lens handily beats it for birding. The additional image scale from the extra 100mm is a very big deal.

I had to tune auto-focus on my D850 to +15 for my sample of this lens.

[0.3 lb] If you shoot wildlife & Nikon - this should be in your bag, end of story.

[0.3 lb] This is my fourth Nikkor Super telephoto Lens and is the best Nikon has released to date in the 600mm focal length to date. The new FL version brings a few benefits, like a redesigned lens that is better balanced and easier to handhold. Two Flourite lens elements reduce weight while maintaining extreme sharpness and color reproduction along with 4 ED glass elements. This lens is nothing short of optically near perfection and the results prove it. Along with the Fluorite elements a new fluorine coating is applied to the front glass that helps repel debris and makes clean up much easier. @ 600mm f/4 eaisly accepts the 1.4 TC making the lens a 840mm f/5.6 and you couple that with a nice crop body (Nikon D500) you are looking at a 1260mm f/5.6 and this is what makes this lens a good choice for bird and nature photography. VR is improved and marginally better than the previous model - allows 4 stops: I have gotten good shots at 1/250s using a TC 1.4 which is amazing. Focus is extremely fast and accurate and is superior in this new lens, especially on newer DSLR bodies. The best thing about the new 600mm is it is lighter and eaiser to carry and balance on the tripod. Not much more to say about the lens - Superior in all regards.

[Realtree Max4] I finally took the dive and bought this magnificent piece of engineering art after years of lusting. Even more so when the new E version came out. The Nikkor 600mm f/4E FL ED VR is the best lens I've ever used and I have a lot of Nikkor Gold-Ring N lenses, including the recently introduced 400mm f/2.8E. The deep and subtle color rendition, bokeh, flair resistance, light weight and spectacular clarity/ sharpness make it stand out. The ability to point it directly in the direction of the sun and still have ample contrast and flair resistance is truly impressive. Autofocus is virtually instant. VR works extremely well as I've achieved tack sharp test images at 1/60th of a second hand-held with static objects. My copy doesn't seem to need any calibration to my body as autofocus seems perfect. I primarily use it with my trusty D4S body with dynamic 9 or AF-C single point. There is one caveat- The screw that locks the carbon-fiber lens hood is poorly designed in my opinion. If you carry the lens with the strap and it has a chance to rub up against your thigh for example, the chances are good the friction will work the lens hood loose as I learned the hard way on a sandy beach. (Simply rotate the screw away from potential rubbing).

[18 x 5.9 x 2"] When I travel, I put this over my lens and pack it in my carry-on/roll-aboard luggage. It works well. I have similar for my larger 500mm f4E lens

[0.3 lb] I've been using the travelCoat on one of my bigger lenses for quite a while now and really like it. This works well for my Z 600mm f/6.3 when i travel. I put the lenscoat hoodie on first, then this travelCoat.

[18 x 5.9 x 2"] So far I’ve not put this creation through it’s paces. I’ve yet to find a tripod gimble combination that will fit me. It’s just going to have to go on my studio tripod for now. It’s Like our heads and neck. Like balancing a Faberge’ egg on a pixie stick (BBT Sheldon Cooper.)

[0.3 lb] The results have been crystal clear from the first use and since. On a D4S or an D810 with or without a TC 1.4 III I have not had a bad photograph. The only down side is the size, but for the sharpness I will persevere. Highly recommend this to anyone who needs this reach.
