Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How do you mount this?

A: You can use one stud in the middle, or a pair from each side https://bhpho.to/2kJ308f. You will need a grip head per stud and stand https://bhpho.to/2NUdZcN.

Q: 2. How does this compare to the Digital Juice 8x8 butterfly frame in terms of breaking down and items included in the kit?

A: No experience with the Digital Juice but the Scrim Jim system has been a favorite light control system for over 24 years because it is lightweight and easy to use. The Scrim Jim Cine remains lightweight especially compared to other brands in the industry. The # 1834 weighs less than 9lbs! A kit is only a few pounds more. The Scrim Jim Cine system was designed with users in the field to be modular so youre nearly limitless in the sizes and shapes that can be built. Connectors feature a positive-locking system that keeps frame builds in-tact throughout your shoot. Easily removable for quick tear down and setup. The 8 x 8 frame is constructed from smaller modular components and so you can construct multiple other sizes as well! Westcotts fabric attachment, through the use of Hook-and-Loop attachment, allows for fast and easy setup and tear-down. Westcott quality control maintains tight tolerances to assure quality color and diffusion.

Q: 3. I want to use the white side as a backdrop for outdoor portraits. Is it a bright white? Are there panel seams that will show up in the photos? It looks like some kind of textured fabric.

A: There is the Westcott Scrim Jim Cine Silver/White Bounce Fabric (8 x 8') which has white on one side and silver on the other. However, the white side contains a grid pattern. https://bhpho.to/3muLhz2

Q: 4. Newbie question. What is the best stand or setup to stand this up on it's own? I don't always have an extra pair of hands and really need something to dull the harsh shadows and sunlight

A: Your best bet is to use this with C-stands.

Q: 5. Hello, can a Matthews butterfly overhead 6x6' can be on it or only the westcott scrim Jim? Thanks a lot.

A: Because I am a bit stubborn, I have also tried because the portability is perfect for this frame. And it works perfectly with a 6x6 Matthews :-)

Q: 6. How does this Scrim Jim 48x48 compare to the Chimera, or Matthews Road Flags? Which is sturdiest, for example?

A: Westcott uses the highest quality fabrics tested for consistent results and anodized aluminum framing and a positive-locking system for the frames.

Q: 7. Is there a way to angle this on a C-Stand? Or is this used only for handheld applications?

A: Nicholas, We recommend mounting this using the 2' Yoke (Westcott Part #7459) and that simply attaches to a grip head on top of a C-Stand.

Q: 8. Can one person hold this 6x6 Scrim?

A: Yes, One person can hold this, but if the setting is windy or they need to hold it for a long time, I would suggest attaching it to a stand.

Q: 9. What is the thickness of the aluminum in the 1 square tubing? Is it 6061 aluminum alloy?

A: Daniel, The available public technical specs for our products can be located in the Technical Specs section of each product on our website as well as B&H's site.

Q: 10. Can the 6x6 scrim also be used to make the 4x6 and 4x4?

A: Yes you can use sections of the frame to make a 4x4.

[1.1 lb / 500 g] These are lightweight and really convenient for solo jobs and small crews. Most of the time I just use the top bar with a stand so I can get four setups out of one kit with a few extra cardellini's.

[48 x 4.5 x 4.5"] I love all the Westcott Scrim Jim Cine products. I have everything from 4x4 to 8x8 products. I love to use the 6x6 for a Booklight that I use for my key light.

[1.1 lb / 500 g] We just replaced our original 8'x8' frame with this latest version and it is much better. The frame tubing is bigger and longer with fewer sections, making it more rigid.

[48 x 4.5 x 4.5"] This is the perfect addition to my portable kit! I have a few 2x3 scrims that work great but because they don't break down they are a pain to carry for on location shoots. The scrim jim excels in that it is easy to pack and carry and because I can buy different fabrics for a quick switch. I would buy more of them but they are incredibly pricey compared to other scrims that don't break down. Would buy more if the price was a bit cheaper.

[1 lb] I took a while to research all of my options when I was looking for an 8x8 set. I ended up purchasing the frame on its own, a 1stop artificial silk and a black/white duv all separately. The kits were tempting, but had items I wouldn't use often enough.
