With the S-4607 mini converter, you can convert SDI to LC single mode optical fiber, and convert optical fiber to SDI simultaneously. It's widely used on transmitting SDI in a long distance and bi-directionally. The S-4607 has heavy-duty housing design, protecting the BNC connectors well, and supplied various screw threads in the bottom, for convenient installing.

A: The SWIT Portable Bi-Directional SDI to/from Optical Fiber Converter has power supply. This does not have fiber driver.

A: Depending on what type of fiber cable you are using, distances can be hundreds of feet to many miles.

Q: 3. Does this support tally data?

A: Yes, it does. The tally, signal will come in the return feed from an Atem Switcher to any number of Black Magic Cameras & Studio Viewfinders. The Mini Converter Optical Fiber 12G, will pass the signals: Both SDI to optical and optical to SDI. It will pass the Tally information that is embedded in that signal, that comes from an Atem switcher passes through the Mini Converter Optical Fiber and then to a supported Blackmagic Camera. ( URSA Broadcast/ URSA Mini Pro / Studio Cameras / Pocket Cinema Cameras).

Q: 4. does this convert from video over fiber to 12G SDI?

A: Yes, the Blackmagic Design Mini Converter Optical Fiber 12G-SDI converts video signals from SDI to Fiber and also works in the other direction, Fiber to SDI. The Blackmagic Design Mini Converter Optical Fiber 12G-SDI is made in the 12G format, meaning it supports 12G or lower SDI signals.

Q: 5. Do you need the converter on both ends of an SDI run? For example, Panasonic AU150 PTZ has a fiber out.

A: If you're changing it from fiber to SDI then back to fiber (or vice versa), you would need two. If it's only one conversion on one end of the run, you only need one converter box.

A: No. The Studio Fiber Converter can only connect to the Camera Fiber Converter using a SMPTE fiber cable. The signal is not compatible with the Mini Converter Optical Fiber.

Q: 8. What's the latency when converting SDI to fibre and then back to SDI again?

A: There is a near zero delay in this conversion, as that is one of many benefits of transmitting/extending over optical fiber.

Q: 9. Is this compatible with Blackmagic Design ATEM Camera Converter?

A: Yes, it is compatible with the ATEM Camera Converter. You will still need to get the Optical Module Adapter separately.

[3.9 in] The device is improved in a number of ways over the previous generation. It's smaller, feels stronger, and has a threaded locking power supply port. It is a little awkward that you have to add your own SFP module, which is not exactly immediately clear, but it does keep the cost quite low for anyone needing only 1080 resolution. The 12G stuff makes this product more expensive than its 4k predecessor, so that's a drawback. But, having bi-directional function on these is a lifesaver in all sorts of situations - not the least of which is sending a confidence monitor signal to any given camera position, which really helps in engineering live events. 5

[32 °F] With VCA down it takes out the ground wonderfully, an active powered approach to ground level noise. Wonderful product and beats the passive unpowered boxes. 5

[10 - 90%] How nice it is when you plug a device in and it works - right out of the box. This converter is being used in our TV studio to convert HD-SDI to use in our new HDMI-only smart TV. Brilliant sound and picture with no additional latency noticeable. The converter runs cool and after a week has had no glitches. 5

[Video extender] I was going to recycle my old 20-year-old Asus P4P800 and then remembered I had bought this unit for another reason a number of years ago and never used it. I decided to swap out my old IDE drive for a SATA SSD and voila. Works great. That's it lit up on the IDE port of the MoBo. Not the only product I've bought from StarTech so wasn't surprised it would work. 5

[Bidirectional] We got these as we were in a pinch. Set multiple to remote stages for our biggest festival. No it does not come with sfp's, but that allows you to decide what signal you need 3G/ 6G/ 12G and spend accordingly. Locking ps is a appreciated feature. Have performed flawlessly having traveled the country to various music events. These units are perfect for FOH positions as you can send video to DLX/ Servers and get a server feed or spy cam back. 5
