Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi. For a Celestron Nextstar 8SE telescope, will upgrading to this star diagonal make a significant improvement to viewing quality and/or photography quality?

A: The term "significant improvement" is such a personal reference. For me unless I switch to 2" eyepieces was there a significant improvement for me.

Q: 2. How does it change the up/down, left/right view of the image?

A: The Celestron 90° Dielectric Star Diagonal with Twist-Lock (1.25") does not have the ability to change the view. It is not an erect image diagonal.

Q: 3. Can this be used on a 150mm Maksutov?

A: Yes, the Celestron 90° Dielectric Star Diagonal with Twist-Lock (2"), features a 1.25 "reducer, and will fit on the eyepiece holder of the 150mm Maksutov telescope.

Q: 4. Can this diagonal be used on a Newtonian 114mm telescope

A: No, it is not possible to use the Celestron 90° Star Diagonal (1.25") with a Newtonian Reflector Telescope.

Q: 5. Can I use it with a Alpine Astronomical Baader Diamond Steeltrack Crayford Focuser for SCTs?

A: Yes you can as along as it is 2" focusing.

Q: 6. Just purchased the iOptron Photon 6". Not using the SCT adapter, will this attach to the scope's focuser w/o a visual back?

A: The Celestron 90° Dielectric Star Diagonal with Twist-Lock (2") can attach directly to the focuser of the iOptron Photron 6" via its 2" nosepiece. If not achieving focus, one can use the iOptron extension rings to get the correct backfocus distance.

Q: 7. What is the transmissive efficiency of this diagonal mirror?

A: The MFR needs to be contacted for this answer.

Q: 8. Is there an adapter that comes with this which also allows for the use of 1.25 lens?

A: Yes it comes with an adapter.

Q: 9. Is the 2”/1.25” model works in a nexstar 8se? Could I use an 2” eyepiece with this? Use a 2” eyepiece is better than an 1.25”?

A: Yes, its 100 % Compatible. Yes, it accepts both size eyepieces. A 2" eyepiece does offer more features over a smaller eyepiece.

Q: 10. Can this product be attached to the NextStar 6 SE?

A: Yes, you can use the Dielectric Star diagonal 2" item # 93573. However, keep in mind that the opening of the Nexstar 6 is smaller than an 8 inch telescope and you will not get the full benefit of the 2" wide view.

[4.5 x 3 x 2"] I have a C14 which came with a 2 inch star diagonal. This was a nuisance principally because instead of just releasing a thumb screw and swivelling the fitting around when shifting to a different area of the sky, you had to unscrew and loosen the whole unit to rotate it, then tighten it again. Also the business of attaching the 2 to 1.25 adaptor became a bother. So I retrofitted the 1.25 inch star diagonal. It works very well, as they always have. (C11, C8) Simple, cheap, and it works.

[4.5 x 3 x 2"] Finally had an opportunity to get out my telescope over the weekend and use the new twist lock 90 degree diagonal. The twist lock is excellent. So much easier than fumbling for the little screws that you have to finger tighten. The only negative I can say is that the twist lock needs to be tightened a lot if you have a variable eye-piece. I have a Celestron 8-24mm lens and I needed to tighten the twist lock quite a bit. Honestly, it is a minor inconvenience if I have to hold the lens when I adjust it. The 1.25 Twist Lock
Celestron 90 Dielectric Star Diagonal is a huge improvement over the stock diagonal on the Celestron Nexstar 8SE

[4.5 x 3 x 2"] I currently use this 90 on a 5 Reflection telescope. This little gem has made viewing objects in the southern sky on a GE-Mount SO much easier on the neck and knees. I noticed little to none in the difference in the image quality with and without the 90. B&H provided prompt and very reasonably priced shipping.

[4.5 x 3 x 2"] My original Star Diagonal had a plastic body, I ended up over twisting the lens into it which cracked the body and never allowed me to secure the eye piece on properly again. This replacement was a great upgrade, quality and feel is awesome, eye piece changes are quick and precise.

[4.5 x 3 x 2"] I had to buy this diagonal because I dropped my part that came with the telescope. I was very lucky that thia was all that needed replacing. If you buy an 8SE be sure to check that it's mounted on the tripod securely. I really dont have any experience with other diags, except cheap starter scopes under 100.00, but looking at the moon, and Jupiter this past week, I have to say WOW. It looks to be very adequate for backyard astronomy. I definately would reccomend thia part to anyone needing it, especially for general amatuer astronomy.

[4.5 x 3 x 2"] 90° diagonal Is it a simple accessory that every telescope should have doesn’t need to be anything more than what it is

[4.5 x 3 x 2"] This is an excellent prism diagonal. Superb coatings. In many cases it will correct some chromatic defects in refractors, making images sharper! I used regularly in my 76.2mm f/16 vinatge achromat. Wished Celestron had used a metal machined housing for the prism instead of plastic, and a compression ring for eyepiece holding instead of just two screws; these are the only drawbacks. I wouldn't mind to pay a little more for these upgrades because this diagonal it has excelent optics. Total optical path is 67mm. For refractors it's light years better than simple mirror diagonals!

[0.35 lb] I bought this to replace one that was broken. It fits and works great! I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a 1.25 diagonal.
