[LCD] I use these lights in my studio for video shooting and am very pleased with them. They preform exactly as advertised right out of the box. Powerful, lightweight, adjustable, and economical they grace the top of my adjustable light stands. They are positioned about 20 feet from the talent and have plenty of light throw. Any concerns about the cooing fan noise--forget it. I can barely detect any noise right next to the light let alone from 20 feet away. I searched for over a year for this type of light and can rest now having found these.

[Yes] This is my second Boltzen B-30. I bought the first one for a specific night shoot where I needed a battery powered long throw light to work with my other softer LEDs. I liked it so well I bought the second one.

I use the FP970 (large size) battery and have never run it down on a shoot. The light is solid, metal, well built. It has a longer throw and smaller spot than I expected, which is good. I can put on the difuser (comes with the kit along with CTO disc as well) and have a soft light good enough for portraits.

The barn doors cut the light nicely but you don't get a sharp shadow as with a typical tungsten fresnel like the Arri. However, I also have a Litepanels LED fresnel, and the shadow is very close in terms of the edge it can make. The Litepanels cost about 4 times as much and would require purchase of a large V-mount battery and charger if I wanted to use it outdoors at night.

To spot and flood the light you push or pull the front ring, rather than turn a knob. It works fine. To add the diffuser or 3200K filter, you unscrew the barn door ring, quick and easy to do.

Because I use the larger battery I have to remove it before folding the bracket down to store the light it its case, but I never leave batteries on anyway. If you do then you could use the smaller batteries. The case is included as well as cord and power supply. Batteries and charger are not included, but I bought two Neewer batteries with charger for around $75. They work as well as any of the other NP style batteries I have. On both lights it takes some pressure to put on and remove the battery but that will probably loosen up a bit with time. I've found that always seems to be the case with third party cheaper batteries.

[5500K] Sturdy stands. Nice case with wheels. Very usable soft boxes.

And the lights themselves work quite well. The fresnel design allows you to control the beam spread as desired. Sometimes I use 2 lights right next to each other, 1 spread wide to light the whole subject, and another focused in tighter to brighten one particular area.

There's an on/off switch that's separate from the dimmer, so you can turn it off between takes to save battery power.

These are daylight, but they include an orange filter that converts daylight to tungsten. Of course, this makes it less bright, but it usually doesn't matter since shooting indoors doesn't require as much light.

I prefer the fanless version for better sound. But sometimes you just need more light, so to complete my kit, I added a CAME-TV 100 watt fanlessfresnel head, which also works great, and it can use the same soft boxes that come with this kit.

[Daylight] This light is great for my one-person-band paradigm. I have been looking for a reasonably priced, uncomplicated, solidly-built, yet portable lighting instrument that allows me to add a range of lighting textures to my interview backgrounds.

    This definitely fits the bill.

I usually shoot both ext. and int. with all my LED lights set to daylight, so the lack of having variable color temp is not a big issue for me. I haven't used the orange filter yet, but I imagine it will work fine for my rare non-daylight situation. There are more advanced iterations of this light that allow for much more control of color temp, but of course you will pay a lot more for that.

This light has no fan, whih is great, plus the barndoors can rotate (which surprisingly - at least to me - doesn't happen with all other such lights. For what it's worth, that's such a must-have feature for me.)

You can buy a robust C stand to support this light for sure, but with the proper stud adaptor, and sandbags, I have had no issue using my standard 8' IMPACT light stands to securely support this instrument.

I just got back from two days of shooting 10 interviews where I used this light for the first time. THIS is what I have been looking for. It has elevated the look of my work to what I have been envisioning while not imposing excessive weight or hassle, and not break the budget.

[Proprietary] So far I am loving these lights! They are bright and the color is great. I do wish they came with more of their accessories instead of having to buy them separately, but the lights themselves are solid.

    30/11/-0001

[5500K] I gave this 5 stars based on the light itself. It would be tough using these as a key light. They are bright but with diffusion such as a soft box you lose about 1.5 stops. Without diffusion they are definitely bright enough but it's a hard light. The focusable Fresnel ability works well however there isn't that defined edge you might think. If you use the Tungsten gel you will lose a stop as well. I use these as hair, fill, background lights and they are fantastic for those purposes. The case is a nice touch and make the lights very mobile. I don't use the battery function as I use them in a studio setting. For video they are a great addition to any studio. The lights fit in the case with U-brackets attached. You can purchase a Bowens mount adapter for the lights but I'm not sure the build quality will support the weight for long periods of time. I have the 60 watt version with Bowens mount and it's a load when using a 36" Octobox. If you were to use these for a mobile light set I'm sure you would be happy. They are light and while I'm not sure the build quality is there for attaching modifiers, alone they seem rugged enough to last a long time. If you remove the Fresnel lens the beam pattern widens considerably. It would take two lights to evenly light a large backdrop but for accent lights with gels they are fine.
