A wide and fast Canon EF-mount prime, the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens Canon EFis a member of the highly regarded Art line of Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens Canon EFGlobal Vision Series and is characterized by its advanced optical construction and robust physical design. The combination of three "F" Low Dispersion (FLD) elements and four Special Low Dispersion elements help to achieve a marked reduction in chromatic aberrations, while a pair of aspherical elements, with one positioned in the rear of the lens, minimize a variety of additional distortions and aberrations. The 15-element-in-11-group optical design is poised to deliver consistent peripheral brightness and sharpness, even when working at the bright f/1.4 maximum aperture. A Super Multi Coating has been applied to lens elements, too, to reduce flare and ghosting for higher contrast and color fidelity.

Complementing the optical performance is an equally adept Hyper Sonic Motor, which provides fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus performance. This focusing motor also enables full-time manual focus override at any time just by rotating the focus ring for refined manual control. Nine rounded diaphragm blades contribute to pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with shallow depth of field techniques, and the lens is also compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuned control over focusing parameters and other lens characteristics.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens' is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.

The prime 24mm focal length offers a versatile wide-angle perspective when used on full-frame sensors, making it ideal for landscape, nature, interior, and architectural photography. When used with a APS-C-format sensor, the lens offers a 38.4mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

This lens has been designed using an advanced optical structure to achieve both high resolution and sharpness, along with consistent edge-to-edge illumination. A pair of aspherical elements, with one in the rear of the optical design, correct for sagittal coma flare, distortion, and axial chromatic aberration, while also enabling full use of the fast f/1.4 maximum aperture with maintained peripheral brightness and sharpness.

Three FLD and four SLD glass elements have been incorporated within the lens design to correct for chromatic aberrations throughout the entire focusing range and help to ensure high image sharpness, clarity, and contrast regardless of focus point or aperture setting.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

The integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) realizes quick and quiet autofocusing, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

A rounded nine-blade diaphragm helps to produce an attractive out-of-focus quality.

The lens is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, along with traditional metals, for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. The outside of the lens barrel is also engraved with the year of production.

The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability.

The included lens hood is fitted with a rubber connection for a secure fit.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I know that the sigma art lens line for canon/nikon is not weather sealed. What these ones?

A: No, the Sigma Art line for Sony is also not weather sealed.

Q: 2. I have a bmpcc4k and will be shooting in a tight space. I have a metabones adapter which should make this about a 40 mm right? Or can somebody tell me what the resolution will be with the adapter?

A: The bmpcc4k has a built in magnification of 2x which will give you a focal length of 48mm.

Q: 3. Will this fit my Sony a58

A: This lens is available for Sony mount, but this particular lens was for Canon EF mount

Q: 4. Will this fit the Nikon d750?

A: Yes. It fits my Nikon D750.

Q: 5. Do I need to have a adapter to use this on the gh5 or can I just put it in the gh5

A: This lens is designed for the Canon EF mount so this would not work with the GH5. If you wanted this lens to work on the GH5 you would need an EF lens to MFT mount adapter.

Q: 6. two q's: As an EF lens I presume this lens would be ok on a bmpcc4k with metabones adapter? But since I shoot in tight spaces, I'd really like to know how this changes the lenses. To say 38 to 48 mm. Wonder if anybody knows where you can see visual samples of the image changes?

A: Yes this lens will work on the Pocket cinema 4K with an MFT to EF adapter. The field of view that you will get will vary depending on the adapter that you choose. There is the standard version a .71x speed booster and a x64 speed booster. If you are uncertain about whether or not you will have enough space to get the shot that you need perhaps it is better to consider the Sigma 18-35mm. this will give you more flexibility as it is both wider and tighter than the lens you are currently looking at. You can also download a director's viewfinder app for your cellphone. often times they have profiles for cameras like the Pocket 4K and will allow you to preview various focal lengths through your phone's camera.

Q: 7. Does the lense works with a metabones speed booster with GH5? the autofocus? the aperture control?

A: The Metabones Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter for Nikon G Lens to Micro Four Thirds-Mount Camera, B&H # MESPNFGM43B3, would be the correct speed booster designed to connect the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Nikon F to a Micro Four Thirds camera. However, do note that no electronic information transferred from the lens to the camera. As such, the lens will not autofocus or allow you to adjust the aperture using the control dial on the camera. You will have to adjust the aperture manually using the aperture ring built onto the Metabones speed booster lens adapter.

Q: 8. Will there be any technical problems mounting this lens on a crop sensor camera such as the Canon 70D?

A: Thank you for your interest in Sigma products. The 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Canon EF is compatible with the Canon 70D.

Q: 9. Will this lens work with a Zhiyun Crane Plus? Currently, my Sigma 18-35 is too heavy for the gimble. I was looking to replace it with the 24mm.

A: It will be front heavy , you might wont to get a Zhiyun Crane 2 ore Zhiyun Crane 3s

Q: 10. the focus ring is infinite or has a stop?

A: It has a hard stop.

[f/1.4] Amazing image quality and my favorite focal length so far! with the 1.4 aperture you can easily blow out the wide background! I love shooting this lens from the ground up, it gives an awesome artsy look to the photo! Other than the slight chromatic aberration that I noticed in on of the more recent photos id taken while pointing directly at the sun, this lens is an absolute beast!!

I shoot more portraits than landscape photos and I figured this would mainly be a landscape lens but Ive used this for portraits more than my 85 because of how crazy these photos turn out!

Would highly Recommend!

[77 mm (Front)] Sharpness and boke on par with the brilliant Canon 24mm L II... lucky for me because my Canon cracked in half on a hard to to a rock.

[Autofocus] Awesome lens, for sure, takes great pictures.

[Autofocus] Shooting indoors with no flash in a musuem is a tough problem. This is more choice. I agonized between 20 or 24mm but went with the Holiday sale version. 1.4F is a must for dim - no flash musuem and the resolution of this is excellent

[24mm] This lens is great. I also own the Sigma 35mm Art and it is slightly shaper wide open, but the 24mm Art isn't far behind. The 24mm Art autofocus has proven to perform better than the 35mm Art, especially in low light. The lack of weather sealing is unfortunate, but honestly the 24mm Art is just so good that it's worth the trade off. Plus, it's almost half the price of the Canon 24mm f/1.4l ii.

[Full-Frame] The lens is tack sharp and exactly what I was hoping for with regards to both a video lens for my vlog and a walk-around lens for landscape and cityscape photography.

[84.1°] OK, it's not cinema glass. I primarily use this with all of our A7Siii's. For the price it delivers 90% of what I need it to do. Sure, you can pixel peep things to death, but ultimately it's all in how you use and maximize the tools you have.

[2.125 lb] Works fine, no focusing issues. Used on D810, D850, and Z7.

[84.1°] This is still hands down the best 24mm optically for SLRs. Bought this lens twice, that is how good it is. Autofocus may not be the best, but I manual focus a great deal and optically this is the best 24mm I have tested for EF cameras. You can also adapt it on almost all mirrorless.
