The BEM-2F BrightEye Mitto HD Fiber is an HD scan converter from Ensemble Designs that converts DVI video input into SDI and HD-SDI formats, while also allowing the user to select which part of the screen to output. VGA and HDMI input are also supported, but require the use of additional adapters; this unit comes with two VGA to DVI adapters. In addition to DVI input and output (loop out), the BEM-2F supports a reference signal input, an SDI output, a composite video output (all on BNC connectors), and another SDI output via optical fiber (LC connector). Both analog and digital audio input are supported via a 3.5mm socket, and audio output can be embedded onto the SDI outputs or sent to an AES output (BNC connector). There is a standard USB Type-A port and an RS-232 port for control via a computer or other peripherals.

The BEM-2F, in conjunction with the included BrightEye Software for Mac and Windows, allows computer video to be used for the most demanding applications including broadcast, high-end military, medical, classroom, church, and corporate events. Even a small part of the screen, such as a Skype window, can be selected with a mouse and converted to full screen HD. Resize the selection window by clicking and dragging with your mouse. From your desktop, you have complete and intuitive control of video format, video levels, output timing, audio delay, and the audio channel mix. The BEM-2F provides the functionality and control to operate as a router or switcher.

Q: 5. I noticed that the power supply comes separately - does that mean that it can alternatively be powered by a computer through the USB port? I am also unclear about the audio inputs. I have never seen that type of jack before...

A: No, it cannot be powered via USB. That is used to provide more comprehensive control, diagnostics, and upgrades to the unit from a PC or Mac. The audio input uses a 6 pin Phoenix connector, Wiring is done by inserting the connector provided with the unit. The wires will need to be stripped and inserted into the connector as described in the manual.

Q: 6. Will an ATEM switcher control tally via ethernet or do you still need to run a GPI Tally Interface for these?

A: The ATEM switcher provides tally over the SDI connection. You connect the ATEM Program out to the Studio Fiber Converter SDI input #1 and assign a camera number. The camera will get tally in this way. You may optionally wire a 3rd party tally to the DB-25 connector but that has nothing to do with the ATEM and is not necessary.

Q: 7. Is there a single mode Fiber Camera Extension for black magic? If these are at a stadium and my control room is 1/2 mile away?

A: Currently there is no Blackmagic single mode fiber extension for the Blackmagic Design Studio Fiber Converter. You may wish to consider the Sony Single Mode Fiber Camera Extension Adapter BH #SOHDCE100 • MFR #HDCE100.

Q: 8. Needing to connect to existing Telex intercom system. Can I connect this directly to a Telex PS15 by building my own DB25 cable or do I need an interface (Telex DSI-2008) to make them work together?

A: The connections to the Fiber Converter require a 4 wire interface. You would need a 2 wire to 4 wire interface. Then build a custom cable with DB-25 for our end and whatever the 4 wire interface needs.

Q: 9. If i have a 5 camera set up how many fibre converters do I need?

A: You will need a Camera Fiber Converter and Studio Fiber Converter for each camera.

Q: 10. When the velcro is fully 'stretched' what is the length of the back panel? What is the length of the padded section?

A: Each padded section on the Shimoda Designs HD Waist Belt is 18.5'' long. If the sections are connected the padded belt overlaps and it becomes 31'' long.

[> 40 dB] I was told, when buying a scan converter, that $30 would get you a piece of junk, $50 would get you something so-so, and $100 would get you something good. This unit's $ price point means it should be quite good---and it is! I've been using this for a year now, and am very happy with it. It gives a good s-video or composite signal from VGA input, and the PAL/NTSC switch is a nice addition. 5

[Follows input] Captured VHS TAPE with plenty of problems on the tape, composite video + audio IN to SDI OUT, in to Blackmagic capture card. over two hours of capture didn't drop a frame, kept perfect sync of Video and Audio. when there where video problems on the tape, the TBC freeze the video for that amount of time. Video thru the TBC, is exactly as the source, (unless you want to change it in the proc AMP). Very Nice control software installed on windows 10 the only problem is B&H Website and the phone assistant said that the power adaptor was not included. but it is.. I bought a separate power adaptor for no reason.. (now I have one spare..) 5
