This stereo pair of Pinnacle Vin-Jet Ribbon Microphone with Lundahl Transformerfrom Pinnacle Vin-Jet Ribbon Microphone with Lundahl Transformeris best suited for recording vocals, guitars, drum overheads, strings sections, and orchestral performances in controlled studio situations.

The Vin-Jet's sensitive aluminum ribbon is suspended between two powerful neodymium magnets and delivers a warm & natural sound with fast transient response, extended sweet spots, and distortion-free, high-SPL handling (up to 135 dB). With its custom winding and core materials, the Lundahl LL-2913 transformer offers improved definition with extended high- and low-end reproduction.

Using the included Blumlein stereo bar, these two microphones can be positioned on top of each other at 90° for stereo recording. Their wide figure-8 patterns pick up the sound on the front and rear and leave large nulls on either side, for accurate spatial imaging and ambience capture.

The microphones are phantom-power-safe and equipped with an open grille (without screening added) for an open and detailed sound. The pair comes with two premium shockmounts, a microfiber cleaning cloth, and an aluminum flight case.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use with an iphone12?k And can I plug in headphones for a monitor?

A: You would need an audio interface that is compatible with iOS devices to be able to use the Cascade Fat Head with an iPhone like BH #IKIPIRIGPROI for example.

Q: 2. Does it come with the case, mount and XLR adapter?

A: The Coles Microphones 4038 Studio Ribbon Microphone comes with an XLR cable, a soft cloth bag, a rigid carrying case, and a simple clip. The elastic suspension mount is sold separately (BH #CO4038SM).

Q: 3. Is this what I would use if I am connecting a mini mixer 4db out into a mic level channel on another board?

A: You should be able to use a standard cable to connect the output from the mini mixer to the input on another board. If the connectors you require are XLR female to 1/4" TRS male, you can most likely use a cable such as the Hosa Technology HXS-003 Balanced 3-Pin XLR Female to 1/4" TRS Male Audio Cable (3') - B&H# HOHXS003.

Q: 4. Is this appropriate to use with an MKE 600 and Zoom H5?

A: It would not be ideal to use the standard FetHead with the MKE 600, since the MKE 600 requires phantom power, and this version of the standard FetHead does not supply it. The standard FetHead is designed primarily for microphones that don't require external power. If you really need to pre-preamplify the MKE 600, it would be more appropriate to use the FetHead Phantom model. Otherwise, you would have to install a AA battery inside the MKE 600.

Q: 5. Help me the set up sure sm 57 vip microphone

A: Each SM57 requires an XLR cable to connect it to your chosen output (typically either the input of a mixer or powered speaker). The end that connects to each SM57 should be XLR Female, and your mixer or speaker should have either an XLR inuput (where you can plug in an XLR Male cable termination) or 1/4" input for a 1/4" Male cable termination. In summary, you will need either two XLR F to XLR M cables or two XLR F to 1/4" M cables, depending on what you are plugging the two mics into.

Q: 6. How does an unpowered/passive transformer provide 24dB of gain?

A: The 24dB of gain provided by the Shure Microphone Matching Transformer XLR Female to 1/4" Male is achieved when connecting a balanced low-impedance microphone output to an unbalanced high impedance input.

Q: 7. This is a passive ribbon mic?

A: Yes, the Royer R-10 is a passive ribbon microphone.

Q: 8. will this work transforming a line level coming from a mixing board to a Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Plus?

A: No, the Hosa MIT-129 will not convert a line level signal to mic level and the connectors on this adapter are the wrong type. The XLR output on a mixer is male so you would need a female XLR connector on your cable or adapter and the mic input on the Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Plus is 3.5mm TRS, not 1/4". Since mixers typically have separate left and right output, you can use a line to mic attenuator cable like the Sescom SES-43DB-MZ2XJ 43 dB Pad DSLR Attenuating Line to Mic Level Cable - 18" (B&H # SES43DBMZ2XJ) which has left and right XLR female connectors to use for the output from the mixer and a 3.5mm TRS male connector for the mic input on the Magewell adapter. Additionally, the Sescom cable is designed specifically to convert line level signal to mic level.

Q: 9. What's included in the box?

A: This microphone comes with the following:Cascade Microphones FAT HEAD II Ribbon Microphone (Brown/Gold)Premium ShockmountDeluxe Oil-Stained Wood BoxMicrofiber Cleaning ClothDrawcord Cloth Storage PouchAluminum CaseLimited 5-Year Warranty on MicrophoneLimited 1-Year Warranty on Ribbon Capsule

Q: 10. Is thi the item to use when trying to attach a shotgun mic to my D750? Does it work to reduce noise coming through the mic?

A: The A85F serves a similar purpose however designed for PA systems with 1/4 inputs. Not compatible with the D750 which requires a different matching transformer with a 1/8 connection. If you have a self (battery) powered shotgun mic with XLR output and would like to connect it to a DSLR camera with a 1/8 input jack the Kopul LMT-100 is a proper adapter.

[11.8 lb] For the money you can't beat the Fathead. When I tried it for the first time I had to crank my Digital MPA almost all the way up to get a good signal for mid/side recording which kind of bummed me out. The MPA has 60dB of gain for the digital output which is what I'm using and 70dB for the analog but I needed more for mid/side. Then I found the Cloudlifter(another $ but worth every cent)The Cloudlifter gives you 20 to 25dB more CLEAN gain via phantom power and life is now very good for recording with any low output mic. Do some research about ribbon and other low output mics and check out the Cloudlifter.

[Figure-8] This is an awesome microphone. It has such a vintage sound. Very warm . I recommend this microphone to anyone high-end for low-budget recording engineers . And BNH is the best place to get it . their very helpful and fast.

[Silver / Black] Works for what I wanted, a mic to tame soprano saxophone recordings. Sounds great. The figure of 8 pick up pattern presents a challenges for my application, but it still works.

[Solid-State] This mic gives a much better and accurate reproduction of a voice trained to be heard in un-miked settings than the results I have been obtaining with a similarly priced condenser mic. I'm very pleased with the quality and accuracy of the sound. Thanks to Cascade for producing this great microphone!

[Figure-8] Using these for guitars and overhead mics. Love them! Great beefy guitars and beautiful non-brittle overheads. Only issue was one of them was dead on arrival but it got replaced quickly and easily thru Cascade.

[Solid-State] I started down the ribbon mic road looking for a less harsh, fuller, more natural sounding tone than I was getting from SM57s, e609, your typical dynamic mic. I started with a large ribbon (MXL 860) mic and it blew my mind. A little too much bass so I had to EQ the 100hz and below out of it, but still really awesome. Could have stopped there, but hey, I love gear. I had read that short ribbon mics have less of that boomy bottom end effect (similar to how a 57 goes through proximity effect the closer it gets to the speaker). The Fathead seemed to fit the bill perfectly. And it is awesome. It is a nicely warm, mid-range balanced, with perfect taming of the highs that a 57 will kill you with. Finally a mic that sounds BETTER through the headphones than my Marshall head & Vintage 30 cabinet sounds in the room. Seriously, place this mic in the right place (on axis with dust cap, offset from center 1/2 your speaker dust cap width), and you will prefer the sound through your IEMs. Packaging was awesome, cool boxes, etc, but who cares. I'm in it for the mic quality and this has quality sound in spades. I would trade every SM57 in my inventory for just one of these.

[Figure-8] I love these mics! They are really sensitive and sound really nice. They came as arrived. The case is really tough too. Great mics!

[Silver / Black] This is a warm, full bodied ribbon mic and for the money you won't find a better sound. I put the fathead between a drum kit and a guitar amp, and the result was a full, clear and warm mono recording. It needed nothing else. You'll want a preamp with this one, as the output is low.

[Figure-8] I bought this Cascade Fathead ribbon mic to use along with an Ear Trumpet Lab Louise condenser mic for recording our old-time string band. I am blown away by the sound quality of our recordings. We sit in a semi-circle and have the Fathead approx. 18 inch from the center instrument and the ETL condenser mic about an arm length behind the Fathead. Our recordings now have a nice full sound and I’m not having to EQ anything, just a bit of compression to tighten up the overall sound. I would buy again and definitely recommend for mixing acoustic instruments.
