The Altman Pegasus 8 2700K LED Fresnel 8" Black Enclosureis a 2700K, white-output LED Fresnel with a 8" lens housed in a black enclosure, capable of operation in both mains dimmable and DMX systems. The fixture uses a 120W lamp and casts soft light similar to that produced by theatrical and studio Fresnels, achieving an output equivalent to that of a 750W incandescent fixture.

The Pegasus 8 is designed to seamlessly integrate into preexisting dimmer systems. When the unit is set to Mains Dim Control, it can plug directly into theatrical phase-cut dimmers and functions in both forward- and reverse-phase implementations, replicating the smooth dimming curves of similar incandescent fixtures. The fixture is designed to operate on both 120V and 230V dimming systems, with a voltage selector switch on the rear of the unit. This switch just applies to the operating voltage of the dimming system. The fixture itself has a universal, auto-sensing power supply capable of functioning between 120 and 240 VAC.

The fixture is also fully RDM (Remote Device Management) and DMX compliant. This allows for its use in a lighting system that uses both constant power (for phase-cut dimming) and DMX data control. Simply flip the DMX/Mains Dim switch on the rear of the Pegasus 8 to convert it into a DMX/RDM controllable unit.

It can be used with standard theatrical gels as well as with gels formulated for LEDs. The fixture is constructed entirely from metal and is made in the USA. It ships with a C-clamp, a color frame, a safety cable, and a powerCON power cable.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the power draw?

A: The description claims 104W of power

Q: 2. How would this compare to an Aperture 300D? This looks like a better option for me, but is it as bright?

A: The Sola 4+ flood 3000LUX @ 1m, spot 32,000LUX @ 1m. The Aputure is 14,000LUX @ 1m.

Q: 3. is there a softbox option?

A: There is not a Softbox option made for the Litepanels Sola 4+ LED Fresnel Light.

Q: 4. What kind of THROW do these have? Can I use these for a stage spotlight from 100' away to achieve F2.8 of F4?

A: According to the manufacturer, the Sola 6+ has an output comparable to that of a 1200 watt HMI light. However, it would not be as effective if placed at 100 feet away from a stage.

Q: 5. How many lumens does this lamp produce?

A: At 5600 K and within 3 ft from the subject, this panel produces 35 foot candles, which is about 377 lumens.

Q: 6. Is it possible to fit barn doors and a metal wire scrim in the slot at the same time?

A: It depends on the thickness. The barn doors' frame sits in the 65Q's gel holder nicely, but not tightly. You might be able to squeeze an eighth (1/8 ) inch of space out of it but not much more than that without modifications. As for modifications, a judicious use of a pair of pliers might allow you to slightly bend the 65Q's frame out enough to do what you need to do without too much change in cosmetics or function.

Q: 7. What is the power draw?

A: 53W power draw and can be powered via professional 14.4V camera batteries via 4-Pin XLR

Q: 8. What softbox or diffuser to use with this light? I am hanging it from the ceiling and need a softer shadow on my greenscreen and subjects.

A: For all my fresnel fixtures I always buy barndoors for them. This is essential for many reasons. If you can also buy a couple of filter holders that would be good also. I always keep a supply of media...color and various diffusion types. What I find most useful to soften lights is either half spun or a lite white frost. If you have filter holders to fit your light fixture just cut the media to fit and slide it into the slot provided. If you only have barn doors then you can cut the media larger and use C-47s(clothes pins-wooden) to attach the media between the large doors and cover the light beam. It is usually preferable to use the filter holder and that way the barn doors can still be used to cut the light beam and shape it to your subject.

Q: 9. What about Mole Richardson accessories fitting into the barn door slot? I see that the ARRI accessories are a no go.

A: The closest option would be 5 1/8" scrims from Mole Richardson such as the Mole-Richardson Half Double Moledura Scrim for Tweenie, Betweenie (5 1/8") B&H # MOSHDB. https://bhpho.to/2VB8QZK

Q: 10. Does it have a fan?

A: YES

[DMX512 and RDM] I bought this to update my Altman INKIE that I purchased back in 1968. I had concerns that there would have been changes in design or sizing to these barn doors over the years. I knew when I purchased them that B & H would have worked with me had they not fit or had their standards of quality been questionable. They still fit and the quality of construction of the barn doors was at the level you'd expect back in the 1960's !! They (like the INKIE) were built like a tank. Once again B & H has saved the day by offering a well made product and by sticking with a company who does the same.

[425.5] As a professional videographer I need the perfect lighting for my work which includes indie films and documentaries. I was looking for something portable and lightweight that didn't get hot yet gave a lot of light output. What I love is this light is an LED fresnel. It takes the same advantages of a traditional fresnel light (beam intensity, longer distance) yet has the energy-saving and efficiency pros of an LED light. I'm a fan of the color accuracy-- the purity of the light is great and has no weird color tints. The color temperature remains consistent, no matter how long I use it (30 min-2 hrs), the temp is always accurate and does not dip. How great is that? Another great feature is that this also has built-in DMX controls, so you can control it with an external DMX panel. If you're looking for well priced lighting that's light weight, has great color accuracy and is priced well-this is a great choice!

[2700 K] I bought this Sola 4+ fresnel for use as a back light in a typical 3 point lighting scenario. It fits the bill quite well I think. I considered the ARRI L5 for this because it is bi-color, but my budget didn't quite allow for it, so the Sola 4+ was the next best option. The Sola 4+ is light enough to place on a boom without excessive counterweights and allows for easy rigging. The fixture is mostly plastic which gives it a bit of a cheap feel however. The barn doors have plastic hinges but the doors are aluminum. Considering the plastic makes it light weight, which is a huge bonus if you are travelling with this fixture, I think it is a reasonable trade off. The focus range allows fine tuning and quite a narrow spot. Fan is quite enough that most audio situations would not pick it up. The fixture has a small form factor but it packs a pretty good punch for its size. Because it is only daylight balanced, I purchased the 5 piece CTO pack which includes a opal frost diffusion. Not sure I will use the DMX function but it's nice to know it's there incase I do. Overall, I think this light is a pretty good value but it needs to be handled and packed carefully to avoid possible damage. I gave the Sola 4+ five stars because it met my expectations based on the advertising and published specs. Now Litepanels needs to make a bi-color version of this fresnel to truly perfect it!

[Black] We were purchasing these to swap out for some spots that weren't working. Easy to install - reliable units.

[130 W] This fixture is built very well. Not quite like tank, but fairly close to it. A note of caution: this unit is very hot. A 750 watt bulb will be hot, I assumed. But I didn't realize the cowling/fixture would get as hot as it gets. Duh. But wow, it is bright. I have to be very careful where I set up this fixture.
However, this is my first foray away from inexpensive LED lights. A very important lesson learned, but well worth the money.

[Yes] I've only been working as a videographer for about two years, mostly part time, but every now and then I get a great gig to work on during my vacation time. I decided to purchase the Dracast LED 2000 Fresnel because I was going to be traveling to Central America to work on a travel documentary, and I wanted a portable and lightweight LED panel that would be easy and convenient to carry. I also wanted to find something that wouldn't over heat in the hot tropical climates of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. I feel like I made a great choice. Not only did the Dracast LED 2000 Fresnel deliver on my expectations of convenience and portability, but I can also give it great marks for things like energy saving (I get up to two hours on it, depending on how I am using it), while still providing excellent beam intensity and long distance capabilities. It's essentially an LED fresnel. The color quality is impressively accurate, offering a pure light and no funky color tints. I also appreciated the built in DMX controls that I could control with my external panel. Highly recommended accessory.

[Black] I've used several of these, and they always produce the results I need. For this kinda price, it is a great light fixture. I know I'll buy more.

[425.5] The Altman Halo 6 LED light is an excellent product! I have been dealing with poor light for remote work videocalls for a few years and finally did something about it. It is highly adjustable, both in light color and brightness, and is incredibly easy to setup and use. I do wish that the lightweight plastic felt a bit more heavy duty, but once it's set up you really don't need to touch it much.
