The Apogee Symphony I/O Mk II Thunderbolt Chassisfrom Apogee Symphony I/O Mk II Thunderbolt Chassisis an advanced, flexible multi-channel audio interface featuring the newest flagship AD/DA conversion, modular I/O (up to 32 inputs and outputs), and an intuitive touchscreen display. The chassis provides two I/O Module slots for a variety of digital audio conversion options that form the interface side of the Symphony I/O Mk II. The front-panel touch screen offers convenient access to nearly every setting including sample rate, clock source, headphone & speaker output levels, meters for all I/O and section navigation, as well as input levels, digital I/O, and configuration settings.

The rear panel provides access to the two I/O Module slots that are capable of a combined thirty-two channels of input and output, while the two Thunderbolt connectors ensure compatibility with newer Mac computers. Also included are Wordclock I/O connectors & termination, an option card slot, and a quiet digitally-controlled fan to keep everything running cool.

The Symphony I/O Mk II features a single ultra-high-fidelity DAC and headphone amplifier  with Apogee's Constant Current Drive technology, which was first introduced in the Apogee Groove. The headphone amplifier dynamically compensates for non-linearities of any connected headphones, providing massive power while maintaining extremely low distortion and linear frequency response.

The optional five I/O Modules allow the user to choose from standard configurations, or customize the following – channel count, analog to digital input, digital to analog output, microphone preamps (requires an analog card), and digital I/O.

[18.4 lb] I recently upgraded to this unit from the UA Twin. Apogees flagship converters in this little unit are amazing. Perfect unit for vocals or tracking single instruments. Definitely recommend.

[18.4 lb] The fan is still a bit loud even though they have the new fans in there, probably because our studio is very very quiet, still think its overpriced, as these guys have monopoly on the market, it never goes on sale but does the job. If you moving from old mac tower to, new mac, studio, or laptop, you had pcie cards in the old one, then you need this unit, it 3 slots, check the size of your card on their site to make sure it is compatible. RME, Universal Audio, Protools all work.

[18.4 lb] I upgraded my Apogee Element 24 to this new Symphony Desktop interface. The first thing I noticed was the quality of the headphone preamp.
I don't have a well treated room in my apartment. So mixing with headphone(Sennheiser HD650 is my main workhorse) is my usual practice. Element 24 has a solid HP. But the HP on Symphony Desktop gives me even better details and clearer bottom end on frequency spectrum. Compared to Symphony Desktop, the HP on Element was a bit muddy at the bottom end. The sound stage is also noticeably wider with symphony desktop.
For mic preamp, I haven't done any comparison yet. I'll update this post when I have time to do it.

[18.4 lb] This is the best PCIe 16x housing you can find. I use it for Highpoint's SSD71xx RAID cards and am getting very fast read/write speeds. As I can control the fans with their software, the unit is extremely quiet.
