The Altman Pegasus 6 4000K LED Fresnel Black Enclosureis a 4000K, white-output LED Fresnel with a 6" lens housed in a black enclosure, capable of operation in both mains dimmable and DMX systems. The fixture uses a 120W lamp and casts soft light similar to that produced by theatrical and studio Fresnels, achieving an output equivalent to that of a 500W incandescent fixture.

The Pegasus 6 is designed to seamlessly integrate into preexisting dimmer systems. When the unit is set to Mains Dim Control, it can plug directly into theatrical phase-cut dimmers and functions in both forward- and reverse-phase implementations, replicating the smooth dimming curves of similar incandescent fixtures. The fixture is designed to operate on both 120V and 230V dimming systems, with a voltage selector switch on the rear of the unit. This switch just applies to the operating voltage of the dimming system. The fixture itself has a universal, auto-sensing power supply capable of functioning between 120 and 240 VAC.

The fixture is also fully RDM (Remote Device Management) and DMX compliant. This allows for its use in a lighting system that uses both constant power (for phase-cut dimming) and DMX data control. Simply flip the DMX/Mains Dim switch on the rear of the Pegasus 6 to convert it into a DMX/RDM controllable unit.

It can be used with standard theatrical gels as well as with gels formulated for LEDs. The fixture is constructed entirely from metal and is made in the USA. It ships with a C-clamp, a color frame, a safety cable, and a powerCON power cable.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What Chimera speed-ring is compatible with this?

A: The Chimera Speed Ring for Video Pro Bank..., B&H # CHSRC738VP • MFR # 9130, and the Chimera Speed Ring for Daylite Jr. Bank..., B&H # CHSRC738DJ • MFR # 9132, would be compatible for your usage needs.

Q: 2. Can this light be left on continuously?

A: This would really depend on the details of what is meant by "continuously." For a variety of reasons an LED option would likely be the better solution for long-term use. This may be an application that would benefit from further discussion. If possible please contact me to go over the details. I can be reached by phone or email. -Tom Casazza 804-349-3453 tcasazza@altmanlighting.com

Q: 3. Why is there no on/off switch?

A: Dracast says that it intended for the dimmer dial on the Dracast Fresnel 2000 Daylight LED Light to control the power. By dialing it down to "0" yu are effectively turning the light off.

Q: 4. Can the barn door slot accept any standard accessories from Arri or are they a proprietary size?

A: No. The ARRI accessories are not compatible with the Litepanels Sola 4+ LED Fresnel Light. The ARRI accessories are manufactured from metal and are proprietary in size.

Q: 5. Is it possible to fit barn doors and a metal wire scrim in the slot at the same time?

A: It depends on the thickness. The barn doors' frame sits in the 65Q's gel holder nicely, but not tightly. You might be able to squeeze an eighth (1/8 ) inch of space out of it but not much more than that without modifications. As for modifications, a judicious use of a pair of pliers might allow you to slightly bend the 65Q's frame out enough to do what you need to do without too much change in cosmetics or function.

Q: 6. How would this compare to an Aperture 300D? This looks like a better option for me, but is it as bright?

A: The Sola 4+ flood 3000LUX @ 1m, spot 32,000LUX @ 1m. The Aputure is 14,000LUX @ 1m.

Q: 7. What kind of THROW do these have? Can I use these for a stage spotlight from 100' away to achieve F2.8 of F4?

A: According to the manufacturer, the Sola 6+ has an output comparable to that of a 1200 watt HMI light. However, it would not be as effective if placed at 100 feet away from a stage.

Q: 8. Does it have a fan?

A: YES

Q: 9. What kind of bulbs to use for this product?

A: The most common bulbs are BTL and BTN. They are 500 & 750 watt bulbs. 750W is the highest wattage you can use. There are more uncommon bulbs that will fit as well, such as 565w or 600w.

Q: 10. What's the weight?

A: 3.6 lbs/1.63 kg

[425.5] Just a wonderful CYC light. We ordered 5 and unfortunately one of the 5 gave off a hideous high pitched screech when powered on. Contacted customer support and they have sorted everything out as our replacement has just arrived. Overall extremely happy with the product.

[Black] B&H was the cheapest. Other theater lighting retailers charges way too much in shipping.

[>90] I bought this Sola 4+ fresnel for use as a back light in a typical 3 point lighting scenario. It fits the bill quite well I think. I considered the ARRI L5 for this because it is bi-color, but my budget didn't quite allow for it, so the Sola 4+ was the next best option. The Sola 4+ is light enough to place on a boom without excessive counterweights and allows for easy rigging. The fixture is mostly plastic which gives it a bit of a cheap feel however. The barn doors have plastic hinges but the doors are aluminum. Considering the plastic makes it light weight, which is a huge bonus if you are travelling with this fixture, I think it is a reasonable trade off. The focus range allows fine tuning and quite a narrow spot. Fan is quite enough that most audio situations would not pick it up. The fixture has a small form factor but it packs a pretty good punch for its size. Because it is only daylight balanced, I purchased the 5 piece CTO pack which includes a opal frost diffusion. Not sure I will use the DMX function but it's nice to know it's there incase I do. Overall, I think this light is a pretty good value but it needs to be handled and packed carefully to avoid possible damage. I gave the Sola 4+ five stars because it met my expectations based on the advertising and published specs. Now Litepanels needs to make a bi-color version of this fresnel to truly perfect it!

[Black] This Altman light is really good quality, but everyone knows Altman makes good stuff, anyway. With a 500 watt bulb and a set of barn doors I am able to light a stage for video and spot the presenter with really good separation of the spot from the on-stage video projector screen. It is a Fresnel so the spot isn't clearly defined on the edges like an ellipsoidal, but if you need to isolate a spot this will do it. The barn doors on front make it that much easier. In wide flood mode it produces a nice, even spread - kind of like a Par 64 can.

[4000 K] The Altman Halo 6 LED light is an excellent product! I have been dealing with poor light for remote work videocalls for a few years and finally did something about it. It is highly adjustable, both in light color and brightness, and is incredibly easy to setup and use. I do wish that the lightweight plastic felt a bit more heavy duty, but once it's set up you really don't need to touch it much.

[4000 K] I've used several of these, and they always produce the results I need. For this kinda price, it is a great light fixture. I know I'll buy more.

[>9300] If you're unhappy with your shadowed face while on a video conference, here's an inexpensive solution. Powered by your own computer through a USB port, this little ring of light illumes your face, helps wash out wrinkles (if you have any) and makes you happily visible to the other conferees. Since it's a ringed low-voltage LED, it doesn't give off much heat, as old-style studio lighting might have done, and avoids beads of perspiration. An added bonus: a little switch lets you control the light's intensity and spectrum. The Altman Halo is an angelic addition to your video gear.

[425.5] I am an established photographer and I was looking for some new lighting. I found this and decided to get it because it was portable and lightweight. I do a lot of outside shooting and this is the perfect light for that. It does not get hot either, which is very lovely. A great investment!
