The silver Grace Design ALiX Preamp EQ DI Boost Pedal Silverfrom Grace Design ALiX Preamp EQ DI Boost Pedal Silveris a single-channel preamp, EQ, DI, and boost pedal designed to bring studio-quality sound to the stage for acoustic string instruments with pickups, such as guitar, bass, banjo, and more. Housed in a lightweight and roadworthy chassis with clearly marked controls for visibility, even in dark environments, it is portable enough to throw in your bag or strap to your pedalboard.

The unit features a power supply and grounding circuit designed for a quiet signal path and professional-grade headroom & line-driving ability. The instrument input is equipped with a three-position impedance switch to match the requirements of specific pickup systems. Phantom power (12V) is available in line-input mode to power electret and lavalier mics.

The EQ section allows for simple and intuitive tone shaping. The high-pass filter cuts 12 dB per octave from 20 Hz to 1 kHz, and can also be set as a notch filter for eliminating problem feedback or rumble areas. High- and low-frequency shelving let you add bite to your instrument or push the bass.

The Boost switch activates up to 10 dB of variable gain to provide a clean and distortion-free level increase to every output. The dedicated, level-controlled amplifier output can be used to drive a stage amp or personal monitor, while the isolated DI output (with custom-wound transformer) delivers a clear signal with natural bass response and low noise.

Other features include a Mute/Tune foot switch for muting all outputs except the dedicated tuner out, a 9 VDC pedal-power-output jack so you can power your tuner and effects right from the unit, and a set of DIP switches to let you customize EQ & activate phantom power.

The ALiX is designed and built in the USA.

A: it came with a black box

Q: 3. What about an Apollo Twin Duo? Can I get the benefit of a mic preamp, or are only the apollo's own presets available to me?

A: This interface offers: 2 Unison Mic Preamps, 1 Hi-Z Input Using the emulations is optional: The interface features two XLR-1/4" mic/line combo inputs and a 1/4" Hi-Z input, all with Unison integration for precise UAD emulations of classic analog preamps—impart vintage character of your choosing on microphone and instrument recordings while bypassing the unpredictable nature of old equipment.

Q: 4. Originally, Sennheiser HD 800S were made in Germany. I heard the new production had moved out of Europe. Where are these made now?

Q: 8. Is this HD650 comes with black or silver drivers? There is a sound quality improvements with the silver ones. Thank you very much!

A: All the critical parts I can see on either side are silver/metallic. There is plenty of black plastic in there, too, but it all looks like structural support for the silvery parts. I took off the earcup padding and thin foam cover, but that's as much disassembly as I feel safe doing.

Q: 9. Are these $100 better than the HD600s?

A: I will address some of these questions I see here. Some posters would have you waiting forever for a price drop. I haven't listened to the HD600s. I find the HD650S well worth the money. I find them comfortable to wear and I have a big head. The sound is superior to the HD598s which I do own. The one drawback to the 650's is that the cord is long and bulky. You will also need an adapter to use them on a phone or tablet. This would also apply to the HD600s as well. To me either these headphones are in your price range or they are not. If not look elsewhere for cheaper.

Q: 10. Does the HD650 come with a set of replacement earcups?

A: No they do not,

[2.2 lb (1 kg)] I have been using the M101 for a few months now and I love it. I use it anywhere I need a crisp and clean signal (metal kick, acoustic guitar) However, you better brush up on your mic placement techniques because what you put in this box comes back out just the sameonly louder. Some have complained that the sound coming from this box is sterile but I would chalk that up to poor mics or poor mic placement. (user error!) My favorite use for the 101 is as a bass DI. The instrument input on the front is perfectly tuned for non active pickups. The sound is simply amazing. This little box is definitely worth the price. Jason

[2.2 lb (1 kg)] I'm a jazz guitarist playing an 8-string classical guitar that goes higher and lower than a regular guitar. It has a K & K pickup and I my amp is a JBL EON powered speaker, which, for this instrument sounds better than any jazz guitar amp. I have used the Zoom A-3 preamp as well as an L.R. Baggs Venue DI. They are both very good but I'd say the Grace Alix is the best I've found. It has great features you can read about but I must say that the sound of my guitar with the EQ set flat is strong, clear and simply amazing! It's very well thought out. Worth the price.

[3.85 lb] All of the equipment and software I have purchased I never woke up to learning how much difference a pre-amp at this level makes. Instruments: Bass guitar, lead guitar, acoustic guitar - it is amazing the fullness it pulls out of these instruments, and that is fullness with headroom. A great addition for voiceovers. Now on the microphones: tested on our condenser mics (Schoeps and AT 4053b) and our Dynamic (Beyerdynamic, Shure) mics. It is hard to put into words the differences. Present system: ProTools, Focusrite Saffire 56, ArtPro Channel pre's, Presonus pre's. This is a game changer investment. Spend it here before you drop the extra $ on the mic.

[3.85 lb] I use this preamp for most tracks. Its very clean as a DI. There is nothing I can say negative about it.

[3.85 lb] I use these with MXL 603s's. Now it's time to look into better mics and a sound-insulated room. I tried no mics and got much much less noise, then 100 ohms across the signal pins and got even less noise. Didn't measure the noise; merely listening, with headphones, to the output amplified by a Panasonic HDC-Z10000. I like the idea of the rotary switch, instead of a pot, for the gain control. It has a pot for the trim control, so it has the best of both worlds. Construction is very good with high-quality connectors and controls. It's pretty cool to have a five-year transferable warranty.

[2.2 lb (1 kg)] The grace design m101 is very much like what you will read about it, clean and detailed. I compared this to the onboard preamps in my Presonus studio live mixer which are also very clean and the grace design had much more body and detail. I tried it with a Shure SM7b and it really brought out the inherent characteristics of the mic. When I plugged my guitar into the HiZ input i could hear all the subtle details of the pickups. I like it a lot.

[2.2 lb (1 kg)] this is the best preamp value on the market that ive found.....used a avalon in a friends studio, and owned a ua la-610 in my own studio....both of these preamps are 1500 dollars or more, and are not as clean and crisp sounding as the grace designs preamp....and where other preamps take a degree to figure out how they work, and take a LONG TIME to get set to prefrence, this little gem is SIMPLE and very EASY to fine tune....for under seven hundred dollars, this is a professional preamp needed to make the leap from home studio to professional turnkey studio, and buy it from BHPHOTO, they are the best

[3.85 lb] I am well pleased with the Grace Design m101 mic preamp. I recorded vocals & guitar using the AKG C3000 through the Grace Design m101 then into my Apogee A/D converters. WOW! The m101 is certainly the most transparent mic preamp, in the price range, that I have heard. The signal to noise ratio on this unit is extremely high. I did a recording in a noisy room, using the microphone close to sound source and the recorded signal had very little ambient noise. Moreover, the signal that I captured through m101 sounded clean and full. It accurately represented the sound source.
