Helping to balance exposure when working in high-contrast situations, the 150 x 170mm LEE Filters Very Hard Graduated ND Filter 150x170mm 4-Stopfrom LEE Filters Very Hard Graduated ND Filter 150x170mm 4-Stopis specifically designed to selectively control brightness in difficult lighting conditions. The filter's design places the 1.2, 4-stop density at the top of the filter and then transitions to clear by the center of the filter for a gradual, natural appearance. The very hard-edge transition between the density and clear areas is well-suited for photographing scenes with a straight, even horizon line, such as a seascape, as well as when working with long or telephoto lenses. This filter is constructed from optical resin that is both durable and helps to maintain high clarity, and is compatible with the LEE SW150 filter holder.

Graduated neutral density places the most density at the edge of the filter and tapers to clear by the center of the filter in order to accommodate photographing scenes with large bright areas, such as a daytime sky.

Very hard-edge transition between density and clear portions of the filter is suitable for photographing scenes with a distinct and straight horizon, such as a seascape, and is also best-suited for use with a long or telephoto lens.

Neutral density 1.2 provides a 4-stop reduction in light in selective areas.

Constructed from optical resin for overall clarity and durability.

Compatible for use with the LEE SW150 filter holder.

Included filter pouch protects the filter when not in use.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this filter fit inside a standard mattebox 4x4 tray? We use the Genus Matte Box Lite and use Tiffin 4x4 filters without a problem, however the Tiffin 1,8 ND is twice the price of the Lee filter. The Lee filter has foam around the sides and is thinner than the Tiffin which is 4mm thick... so not sure it was meant for use in a matte box like the Genus. Thx for your help.

A: It will fit but be a somewhat tight fit because of the foam on the filter.

Q: 2. Do you see a blue or magenta tint with this filter?

A: Yes. That is true. I get blue tint with it. But if you shoot in RAW this can easily be corrected in post processing later.

Q: 5. will this fit a Nikon nikkor 35km 1.8 and if so what accessories do I need to purchase with this filter?

A: yes with the Lee 100mm filter holder kit, go to 'Lee 100mm filter' on the internet and the site will show you everything you will need. I think B&H carries them.Regards...

Q: 7. Will Lee's Big Stopper work with the Tamron 14MM lens? And, what adapter ring would I use with it and the Lee Filters Foundation Kit?

A: I'm using Lee's Big Stopper with my cokin z pro filter holder for my Canon lens with two Cokin adaptor rings ( 82 mm and 77 mm). It works perfect for me. I don't have experience with Lee Filters Foundation Kit.

Q: 8. Is this a screw- on ND filter?

A: Yes, the Lee 72mm Elements Variable ND filter is a screw-on filter.

Q: 9. Hello, does this cut out infrared light(IR Pollution)?

A: No this is only a neutral density filter, you would need an IR or an IR Cut filter.

Q: 10. Is this a screw-on ND filter?

A: Yes, the LEE Filters 72mm Elements Variable ND Filter (6-9-Stop) is a screw-in 72mm filter.

[8 x 6.9 x 0.6"] I typically use this filter at sunset when I have a straight horizon. This is a very good quality filter and is very easy to use. It is much easier to line up a hard edge filter as the line of division between light and dark is much easier to see. I often use this filter in combination with a .6 soft grad for an even more dramatic effect. I have no complaints whatsoever about this filter.

[8 x 6.9 x 0.6"] Not a whole lot to say, works as you expect! My only tip, since a hard edge filter is a sharp contrast, make sure you press you DOF preview button when aligning the filter so it sits exactly where you want it to on the horizon.I do wish these were made of glass instead of resin, but thats not a review of the project just a request to LEE filters.

[8 x 6.9 x 0.6"] I use this filter for mainly my landscape stuff and it does wonders for exposure control. I also have the .6 and find it a little light for more intense lit shots. This .9 is awesome for sunrise or sunset shotsand holds just enoguh light back to retain detail throughout the picture. Only thing is these aren't cheap, especially once you consider the Lee holders. Well worth the money if you do landscape photos though!

[8 x 6.9 x 0.6"] If you're looking into buying these you know what they are for and what they do. Lee is one of the higher tier filter producers so you can't go wrong with the brand, and the larger filter size allows hand holding when its more convenient than using a filter holder.
