The 1" aluminum dome tweeter is designed to be light, efficient, and rigid, providing high SPL (sound pressure level) with minimal distortion and a sense of transparency. It deploys a finite-element-analysis (FEA)-optimized diffuser to help ensure that the tweeter has optimal on-axis and off-axis frequency response, so that everyone in your listening room gets the best performance.

The 4.5" bass woofer is built on a cast ABS-fiberglass composite basket for enhanced component alignment and an inert frame without resonances or added harmonics. Its polypropylene cone is designed to be light and rigid to give a flat frequency response and the SPL necessary to keep up with the other drivers.The woofer uses aluminum shorting rings for reduced distortion, and a vented voice coil former to keep the motor assembly cool during high SPL playback. For augmented bass extension, the cabinet is rear-ported and tuned for the woofer.

The SoundMatch crossover uses air-core inductors and heavy-trace printed circuit boards to help produce sound with lower distortion and tighter tolerances with better heat dissipation. The 2-way crossover is tuned so each driver can blend each other while offering optimal on- and off-axis response, while maintaining phase coherency and sharp time domain behavior.

A: These speakers are rated at 6 ohms. Running them from a 4 ohm source has the potential to damage the amp and the speakers, if played loudly and for long periods. I'm not recommending this practice, but if you proceed cautiously.

Q: 6. These should be compatible with a Denon AVR-S740H, right? It outputs 75W per channel at 8 ohms, with a specified 4-16 ohm impedance range.

[2-Way] I used to listen to LS3/5A, a $3,000 plus bookshelf speaker and found that sound from these cheap Sony speakers is very acceptable for general listening. 5

[85 dB] First off, I do not consider myself an "audiophile". I just enjoy playing and listening to good music. I purchased the SS-CS5 speakers to use with my (bedroom) home studio. I didn't really have a need for flat response studio monitors, as I will be listening more than actually mixing. I have a Zoom L-8 mixer and using a 50-watt per channel Class-D amplifier. The speakers sound really great and the bass is adequate for my room. I may add a subwoofer later down the road, but at the moment I am just enjoying them by themselves. I agree with all of the great reviews on YouTube, the SS-CS5 speakers are a great deal and hard to beat for the money spent! 5

[20 to 150 W] I waited for these to go on special; to augment two smaller Sony bookshelf speakers I've had for years. Turns out, these are now my main bedroom speakers with the old ones for rear channels (using an older Sony receiver). The bass response is strong....so strong my upstairs neighbor in my concrete apartment building complained. I've toned them down and am now using isolation pads. Still tweaking them, which for me is fun. Solid speakers. Get them. 5

[8 Ohms] I wanted speakers that have bass, yet the neighbors don’t hear them. It just sounds clean and crisp. [16.2 lb] I purchased a set in September 2022 and was so pleasantly surprised at the performance. They exceed my expectations, especially at the price point. I have high end floor standing speakers for times when I want the best possible experience but these were purchased for my "every day" use with a home entertainment system. I also have a small 8" powered subwoofer connected as recommended by many knowledgeable reviewers. The overall performance is stunning to me. [20 to 150 W] I was in need of new speakers because my old bookshelves have Foam Surround rot.I didn't want the hassle of searching for new woofers because they are old so time for an upgrade. these speakers were compatible in size and specs with my old ones and are highly reviewed on the net, so I figured I'll get that much shot. [Bass-Reflex] After almost 2 years of excellent performance with this pair of speakers, I recently got error reports from my receiver to check for loose wires (the receiver would shut down when certain frequencies where playing). After many tests I found 1 of the speakers was causing this. After contacting Sony, they quickly responded by emailing me a FedEx return label, then diagnosed the problem, and replaced the item, all under warranty at no costs to me! 5
