The 20" Axler Caterpillar 20" Camera Slider - Extendingis a compact camera slider that extends to 30" of sliding length when mounted on a tripod or stand.

The Caterpillar is a belt-driven slider offering smooth movement for up to 13 lb loads. In addition to its adjustability in a mobile form factor, the Caterpillar is also designed with a few exceptional features that will provide for increased efficiency and convenience.

One of the outstanding features is a flip-brake that allows you to lock the sliding carriage into a fixed position in an instant. Also, instead of an integrated mounting screw on the sliding carriage, the Caterpillar features a small, pullout quick-release plate with a 1/4"-20 screw and 3/8"-16 bushing. This plate can be attached to cameras or video heads and then inserted into a slot on the carriage, and then it is quickly secured by tightening knobs on the sides of the carriage. The knobs can also be removed and replaced by included set screws to make room for larger tripod heads or cameras.

When used surface-mounted, the Caterpillar offers a sliding length of 18". It comes with screw-in feet that can be adjusted to different heights to compensate for any unevenness on the surface. A bubble level on the sliding carriage allows you to confirm whether you're level.

The Caterpillar has a dual twin-rail design and uses a durable Nylon tether to drive the carriage. It is supplied with a form fitting, zippered carry carry case.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this compare to Eldelkrone? This looks solid, but I wonder how stable it is.

A: This is a new product so there is not much experience with it. However, as an affordable alternative, the Axler should do a fine job in moderate use applications. If on the other hand you intend to do heavy duty pro level work, I would invest in Eldelkrone.

Q: 2. Is it compatible with the Tilta EVF Extension Cable (B&H #TITAT11EEC60)?

A: The The Tilta EVF Extension Cable for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, 6K G2 & Cinema Camera 6K has 1/4"-20 threads on three sides, allowing for multiple mounting options. Technically, you should be able to use the Axler RECODO 11" Arm with 1/4"-20 to 3/8"-16 Anti-Twist Fitting. Tilta also offers an extension bracket specifically designed to work with the EVF extension cable: Tilta Tiltaing EVF Extension Bracket (Black), B&H #TITAEEBB

Q: 3. Is it difficult to get consistent steady flowing slides with this without it being motorized?

A: Operating a slider manually will take some practice to get down smoothly, but it is very possible with this slider.

Q: 4. Does anyone know how well this compares to the steadicam solo?

A: We have yet to see a direct comparison these two stabilizers at this time.Generally the difference between two similar products is in the quality of the design and materials. Here I would expect the Axler to be a good value for an entry level Stabilizer. On the other hand, the Steadicam Solo will gain in quality of materials and being easier to balance.

Q: 5. What is the max load or weight that this arm can bear?

A: The Axler RECODO 11" Arm with 1/4"-20 to 3/8"-16 Anti-Twist Fitting is designed to work with up to 3lb payloads.

Q: 6. Will this work with a Panasonic AG-UX180 4K Approx. 4.4 lb (2 kg) excluding battery and accessories?

A: I won't do it. With that camera you will be way more happy with a shoulder stabilizer or at least 2 hands stabilizer. I have a Dslr and it was not what a thought it will be. It's just fine.

Q: 7. Will this work on The 24 Ezybox Hotshoe Softbox?

A: Yes, it does.

Q: 8. 1. Is this suitable for a Sony AX100E.2. I'm planning a trip to the Galapagos later this year where much of the time will be spent on a boat. Will this (or any stabilizer) work better than a mono-pod or tri-pod in this situation?

A: I return this item

Q: 9. Does this model come with directions to ease the balancing process?

A: The Robin 20 Stabilizer S does come provided with instructions in the manual to assist in the balancing process. Please have a look at the product's web page as we offer a digital copy of the manual under resources.

Q: 10. where can I find a video of this slider in action?

A: Sorry, this is a brand new product and unfortunately no videos are known to be available for it.

[1/4"-20 Male] I've only used it once so far - you can see the test shots here:https://vimeo.com/216535123 And, I'm really impressed. I feel if I spend more time with it, I'll get even smoother shots, but I'm quite pleased with it right out of the box. It feels quite durable. It's got some heft to it, but not too heavy that you wouldn't want to bring it with you on shoots. And, it's compact enough that it won't take up much space with your gear or strapped to a pack. What I really like is that when its mounted on a tripod it expands to 2.5 feet. That's a nice amount of range for a slider that packs down to just over 1.5 feet. In short, it seems like a great bang for you buck. I've used cheaper sliders before. And the reason I'm not using those anymore is that they inevitably break. If you don't have the budget for a motorized system or just want a 2nd more portable slider, I highly recommend it.

[1/4"-20 Male] This is a great portable 20 slider, for travelling and easily fit in my carry on suitcase. I love how it extends to 30 for shooting. It held my Lumix GH4 with Grip but also is rated for up to 13 lbs! The belt design was something I haven't seen before, but was surprisingly smooth and easy to use! The adjustable feet helped me level my shots out while out shooting a timelapse of the sunset, but I don't seem to use the level too much, I am sure others will find it useful. I use the larger threads to mount my ballhead to the plate but it has a 1/4-20 thread to mount a camera directly to the unit. I just feel I have more adjustments with my ballhead, but on a long hike I may opt to leave the ballhead in the truck and just take the slider.

[1/4"-20 Male] Beautiful little slider that seems a little dinky at first but after adding my a7s w/ cage, mic, and monitor on it floats like a dream. It does take a bit of practice for the very slow slides. Fits in my Pelican 1560 case like a glove, as it's 20in but has slide length of 30in.For the price for $ (on sale) you really can't beat it.

[1/4"-20 Male] This is a good product for still filming such as interviews. It's great for filming outdoors on stationary objects. It can be used for action but, move very slow. The market has more expensive ones but this works well.
