Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this microphone work with a Canon Rebel eos T7i, or would I need an adaptor?

A: You may purchase an XLR adapter such as the Marantz Professional PMD-602A 2-Channel DSLR Audio Interface, B&H # MAPMD602A, along with the Kopul CMX-RC30 Right-Angle Coiled Stereo Mini Cable (Black, 8 to 24"), B&H # KOCMXRC30B, or you may purchase an XLR to 1/8" (3.5mm) miniphone cable such as the Kopul XRSM 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm RA Stereo Mini-Plug Cable (10'), B&H # KOXRSM10B, for your usage needs. The Kopul cable would be a simple cable and the more economical option, whereas the Marantz PMD-602A would allow you to use a standard XLR cable and allow you to control the level of the microphone, along with allowing you to use two (2) microphones simultaneously and monitor the audio using headphones.

Q: 2. Would I be able to use a XLR-TO-USB SIGNAL ADAPTER with this mic to record directly into my laptop? Thinking a Blue Microphones Icicle XLR to USB Mic Converter/Mic Preamp or a SHURE X2U XLR-TO-USB SIGNAL ADAPTER would work for this?

A: Either of these adapters will work, however, the Icicle has been discontinued, and the Shure is much better quality.

Q: 3. IS the mic clip for the stand included with the stage kit?

A: Yes, the mic clip is included and will be found in the box with the microphone. Very often manufacturers will ship the mic clip with a little insert that allows use with boom poles. If it is inserted in the threading of the mic clip, use a dime as a tool to back out and remove the insert and you'll be all set.

Q: 4. For a Canon 70d I know I need a xlr to 3.5mm cable so the mic connects to my camera, But I was wondering which cable would I need to do that? There's so many options. Which xlr to 3.5mm cable should I get from this site. Thanks

A: The recommended cable adapter for DSLR connection is the Kopul LMT-100. This is an 18 cable adapter. To run the length from the mic to adapter would require a standard XLR mic cable. Available in lengths from 1 to 100 feet.

Q: 5. How long is the cable?

A: 16.5 inches

Q: 6. does it permit the use of a 3.5 input socket to a Camcorder or DSLR camera ?

A: You may be able to use this mic with a camcorder or DSLR (providing that the impedance is within range -- check your camera manual for mic input impedance specs). However, due to its transformerless design, this mic may introduce noise or hum into the recorded audio.

Q: 7. Does this microphone put out a balanced signal?

A: I have a Pyle PDM MIC 58 which essentially the same mic as this one. The mic does not come wired as a balanced mic but I found this video where you can perform a simple mod. Go to youtube and search for Pyle PDMIC78 Microphone - SM-57 Knockoff it's posted by a guy named Bob H.If you are making a short run (less than 20 feet) to your mixer or input source, you may not even need to balance it though. I have been using mine with the supplied 15 foot xlr to 1/4 mono cable and it sounds great into my Zoom H1 recorder. This is a great value and instead of everyone asking why this is so much less than the Shure SM57, the question should be why is the SM57 so expensive?I have one of these in my cart and will be getting one with my next order to go along with the PD MIC 58.

Q: 8. Can this mic work with the housing on a Canon XA11?

A: Yes, the handle on the Shure VP64A handheld microphone has a 19mm diameter which should fit into the microphone holder on the Canon XA11. If the mic holder is slightly larger than the mic's handle, you can use a rubber O-ring like the Sanken ROCS Rubber O-Rings for CS-1 (B&H # SAROCS) which come in a pack of 10 and will fill out the extra bit of space so the mic will fit securely. The VP64A.and Sanken CS-1 shotgun mic that the O-ring was designed for use with both have a 19mm diameter. As another option, you can try to make your own wedge using rubber bands, gaffer's tape or pieces of sponge to fill in the space and create a secure fit for the mic,

Q: 9. I need an external mic for my Canon Vixia HF R52 camcorder. The Canon tech support person said the mic had to have its own power supply. But this Shure VP64-AL says it needs no battery or Phantom power (whatever that is). So will this mic work with my camcorder?

A: This is a dynamic microphone, so it needs no external or battery power. What you will need is an adapter cable with attenuation to match the input on the camcorder:

Q: 10. Will this mic work with the nikon d5300?

A: This mic connects via XLR hookup. As long as you have proper connection to camera (via mic cable) you should be fine.

[Black] This thing really does look and feel like one of the most well-known workhorse mics in the world. To me, the midrange sounds scooped... but not in a bad way. This mic is totally usable, but I wouldn't trust it in a demanding situation or environment. For home recording, it should work just fine. I can't speak to it's long-term durability, as mine are still pretty new. The price just makes it a no-brainer for a basic general purpose instrument mic or a decent backup. Try it and you'll probably end up using it more often than you thought you would.

[Black] I've bought a couple of this mics for my amp during gigs at small venues and some recording. For the money, it is a great value! As good as a Shure 57 without the costs. I've recommended this mic to several people already.

[6.705 lb] Plastic body, very low output but but only $$ shipped so if you need a mic to hand out for passing around in a bar, club, etc then this is your mic. If it gets tossed, smashed or doesn't make it's way back into my gig bag ... no loss. As a mic to be used for vocals or anything that resembles making actual music ... this mic is trash.

[6.705 lb] There is one thing I know that this price is right it's just so right. All of the other mics have really crazy prices. Like $ but this mic is $ that's it

[Hypercardioid] This product has really good sound quality for the price. If you are looking for a cheaper way to get descent audio, then this is the mic to get.

[End Address] i use this Pyle PDMIC78 microphone for home recording on guitar amps, snare drum and vocals. very sturdy construction and very easy to get a great sound from it. the only thing i didn't like was the XLR to 1/4cable that comes with it. sounds much better with a XLR-XLR low impedance cable. i can't believe the low price! it is impossible to go wrong with this purchase and B&H shipped it to me lightning fast Thanks!

[On/Off] The sound quality is better than similarly-priced mics I bought in the past.

[Black] I bought this microphone because I was in need of microphones to record guide tracks for choirs. I needed a simple mic and the SM57 look is perfect because it's plain and simple. This is not an SM57! And it doesn't need to be because it is still a great mic. I use it for individual voices on choirs, voice overs, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, ukuleles, and drums. Because it's a dynamic, it isolates the sound fairly well. I love this microphone. I own 3 of them all from B&H. I own a studio and actually don't even own even one real SM57 because I don't need it. This does a great job. I have plenty of experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Music Recording. I've also used them on kick drums and they sound surprisingly well. I've also used this microphone at a live event where the speakers were using these microphones. The only thing that I can list as a con is that the connector at the bottom became loose. All I had to do was push the little plastic plate that holds the xlr pins in and problem solved!

[On/Off] I have used these microphones to make recordings of explosive noise and they don't ring when signal exceeds dynamic range.
There great and continue to work fine.
