A: The person who answered the question before me is correct. It depends on how thick the floor of the plate is. Notice that the screw has a reduced diameter portion between the threaded portion and the head. That portion is 1/4 inch long. I made my own camera plate in a machine shop. I made it so that the plate is 1/4 thick. I did not have to use any spacers or washers. B & H has shorter D-ring screws that have a shorter reduced diameter section. Check how thick the floor of your camera plate is and get either a longer or shorter screw.

A: The receiver on the legs is a junior type receiver at 1 1/8". Although the receiver can hold a 20" column, it is not recommended to use a 40" column in place of it, due to heavier weight.
