Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The description indicates the base is black, but the photo looks grey. Which is it?

A: The base is black.

Q: 2. Does the mounting arm allow for pitch and yaw adjustments (in other words tilt side to side and tilt forward and backward)?

A: Unfortunately, the mounting arm of Kaiser RS1 lacks pitch and yaw adjustments.

Q: 3. How is the camera height adjusted? I see a knob on the rear of the arm, does the column have a geared system (turning the knob makes fine adjustments), or is it held in place by tension (turning the knob loosens and tightens the clamp)?

A: The center column has a tension control knob that allows a end-user to lower or rise the unit.

Q: 4. Will this fit in the Kaiser 205615 table? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/248571-REG/Kaiser_205615_Table_Frame_for_the.ht

A: No, the Kaiser Calibrated Counterbalanced Column for Copy Stands (59.1") does not fit onto the Kaiser Table Frame BH #KAFSMRSP • MFR #205615.

Q: 5. is it easy to break down for traveling?what does it weigh?what is an appropriate smartphone clamp?

A: Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not list a weight for this item, but our records indicated that the shipping weight is 8.2 lbs. A smartphone clamp you can use with the camera mount is the Joby GripTight PRO Smartphone Mount B&H # JOJB01389.

Q: 6. What is the usable scan area with the upright and RB 5070 DX2 lighting unit attached? I.e., is it slightly less than 20x24"?

A: The RB5070 DX2 Lighting Units would attach to the corners of the baseboard on this copy stand. That being said, the baseboard would give you a usable surface area closer to 20 x 24".

Q: 7. Will this stand hold a Canon 7D?

A: This stand is not strong enough for a 7D and lens.

Q: 8. How far out from the column can the camera be (horizontally) extended?

A: It can be extended from 6.5-10".

Q: 9. What is the screw size for the camera mount?

A: A regular camera mount screw, 1/4-20".

Q: 10. Does the perpendicular column allow the camera to be far enough into the center of the workspace?

A: The camera will not be in the center of the base board.

[24.5 lb] This is a simple and easy to use copy stand. It allows adjusting the camera height, as well as the distance from the column. The handle that adjusts the height lets you set the distance to the original quickly and accurately. I use the stand with a Sony 14 MP DSLR A290 camera. I recommend a fixed focal length lens for sharp copies, as zoom lenses do not have the same sharpness. The stand is made in Germany, and appears to be of excellent quality of manufacturing.

[24.5 lb] This copy stand is very well made. The column and platform are solidly mated. The traveling stage moves smoothly and stays put under the (admittedly modest) weight of my EOS RP and its L-Bracket.

The only thing this lacks is the ability to put the hand crank on the other side of the column, but it may be that all copy stands lack this, so I won't hold it against Kaiser!

[Yes] The Kaiser Copy Stand RS 2 is sturdy and the arm is steady and locks in well. I have used it for photographic and stitching an oversized photo and it worked. Only difficulty is the light box I'm using to image slides and negatives is too large for the base. I will be using a large heavy cutting board on top of the base as a simple fix.

[Yes] So for I'm happy with the RS2 copy stand. It's sturdy, and easy to use. The mechanism works smoothly to move the camera up and down. It's not as adjustable as the RS1, but using an Arca Swiss plate, once you get it aligned, you don't have to do it again so not a big deal. it's quite expensive for what it is, but that seems to be the case for anything today, and much of what you buy today isn't well made. This seems well made.
I'm using with D850 to copy various prints, slides and negatives. I'll likely use the ES-2 Nikon accessory to copy individual transparency frames, but I'm using this stand to make images of my full rolls of negs in PrintFile as contact sheets, with a 60mm Micro lens. Had hoped to use my Tamron 90, but didn't have the angle of view needed so had to buy the 60. Do test that the working distance of this stand will work with your chosen lens. As I said, it didn't with my 90mm lens for one of my intended uses.
I also got a Kaiser slimlite plano light table to light the transparencies, and that also works well.

[24.5 lb] This is easy to set up. The arm slides smoothly along the column by using the hand crank. The arm is able to be extended outward in case your camera lens can capture the foot of the column. It is steady and sturdy for me to do camera scanning of my film negatives. Definitely worth the price!
