Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this switch be configured as a DHCP server?

A: I am sorry but the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Lite 16-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch cannot be configured as a DHCP server.

Q: 2. how many poe ports does it have?

A: All 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports are auto-sensing PoE+ IEEE 802.3at/af ports by default or can be configured for 24V Passive PoE. The maximum wattage per port when in 802.3at/af mode is 34.2W. The maximum wattage per port when configured for 24V Passive PoE is 17W. The combined power draw of all 48 ports in any configuration combination may not exceed 436W (the switch itself consumes 64W of the 500W provided by the power supply for operation).

Q: 3. How loud is this switch?

A: Sound Level* (dBr) 1.7-10.8 , https://dl.ubnt.com/datasheets/unifi/UniFi_PoE_Switch.pdf

Q: 4. What is the Max AC/watts and amps of the POE 48-port SFP+ with all 600w of POE used, need this info for circuit required load?

A: This Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Pro PoE 48-Port Gigabit Managed PoE Network Switch with SFP+ would use a max of 660W including the power that the switch itself would use. This would be if every Watt of PoE power is also being used.

Q: 5. L2 OR L3?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Switch US-48-500W 48-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch with SFP+ is L2, but not L3.

Q: 6. I expect the PoE demand to be on only 3 to 4 ports and about 30 watts total. Are the fans thermostatically controlled perhaps not running at all?

A: The fans are thermostatically controlled. In a standard room temp environment they might come on twice a day for 2mins. If the fans are too loud for you environment you can replace them with Noiseblocker fans.

Q: 7. Does this make your internet faster with a separate router and Modem?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Lite 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch will not improve internet connection speeds, however, it may improve speeds between devices on the network if your current switch has less internal throughput.

Q: 8. Do you need to run a Ubiquiti controller 24-7 with this switch?

A: if it reboots without the controller running you will lose all your settings.

Q: 9. Does this switch allow for Mac Address filtering/whitelisting per port?

A: No, the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Lite 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch does not have per port Mac Address filtering and whitelisting.

Q: 10. How many of the 16-port switch's ports support PoE+?

A: All ports *support* PoE+ but I suspect that's not what you're asking. The max per-port power is 34.2W and the max *shared* power is 150W so you could in theory be limited to 4 usable ports if your individual devices were drawing 34W. In the real world you'll need to account for the actual peak power draw of each PoE+ device. PoE+ is 15W+ (otherwise it's just PoE) so with the most *minimal* PoE+ devices drawing 15W+ you might be able to use 9 or 10. If you want to fully load the switch with power hungry devices then you probably want one of the 24-port switches with more available power.

[8.5 lb] I finally talked myself into getting a managed switch. Since I owned a Unifi Dream Machine Pro, it made since to get a Unifi switch.
It is easy to configured. My homelab now has multiple segments and I have an easy-to-manage user interface. Honestly, it's easier than I thought it would be.
I use the PoE to power cameras and access points.
One word of advice - I might recommend getting the 24 port instead of the 16 port. I'm starting to fill up slots.
Other thoughts - I have this in a homelab rack. I do not notice the fan on this switch. Then again, my server is kind of loud so not too surprising.

[Yes] We love Unifi switches, especially the POE models. They are very convenient and can all be managed via the cloud controller for easy of administration. VLAN's are easy to implement on this switch. The picture is from my home rack setup with this switch.

[17 to 34.2 W] I like this version of the switch because all ports are POE which gives me the ability to hook up all of my devices for a good price rather than going with the new version with just 8 ports POE.
