Wimberley uses 7075 T6 series aluminum for the C30 clamp, which is a standard within the aviation industry and amongst the world's strongest aluminum alloys.  It is heavily alloyed with zinc to be incredibly strong and durable, with superior tensile and yield strength thresholds than 6061 T6 aluminum alloy.

The Wimberley C30 clamp will securely hold any manufacturer's Arca-type quick release plate, available from a host of manufacturers.

The clamp's locking knob cannot accidentally fall off from being unscrewed too far.

Wimberley's C30 clamp has a tongue-in-pocket design which protects internal parts from dust and grit.  The spring-loaded moving jaw communicates brilliantly to your hand that the camera's quick release plate and the jaw are in contact.

Shallow channels extending from the C30 clamp's sides stop just short of the central tapped hole, allowing great fore-aft adjustment when using the safety stops on Wimberley's (and others) quick release plates.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this clamp be mounted directly to a Skimmer Pod?

A: Yes, this can mount directly to the Skimmer Pod. The 3/8-16" threads of the Wimberley C-12 QR clamp can screw completely onto the Skimmer Pod's 3/8"-16 stainless steel captive bolt. In fact, the C-12 is actually recommended by the Skimmer Pod's manufacturer, Naturescapes, as being perfectly matched for it.

Q: 2. Is the Wimberley C-30 Quick Release Clamp compatable with the Induro PL-70 plate?

A: Yes the PL70 will work in the C30 clamp.

Q: 3. Will this plate fit on a Sachtler FSB8-t fluid head?

A: To be honest, i never have FSB8-T, but i use my Wimberley P30 and P40 on my Wimberley Gimbal work perfectly and also on my Acratech ball head. I beleive as long as your head use arca swiss type of quick release, i think will fit thanks

Q: 4. Can this clamp be mounted on a Giottos MH5400 ball head?

A: Hi Dana, That's a hard one to answer because you need to know how the current clamp is mounted to the Giottos ball head. Some manufacturers use the same mounting scheme so you can swap them out, others have a unique mounting. the only way to know is to take off the existing clamp. Check out how the Wimberley clamp mounts to the ball head by going to the C12 clamp page on the BH site and click on the second picture. The first thing I would do before buying a clamp is to remove the existing one to see how it mounts. This will help you because now you can take a picture of the Giottos mount and if you call B&H at least you'd be able to send the picture to them so they could help you make sure you're buying the right part. I'm hopeful this might save you the time and hassle and expense of going back and forth if this one proves to not fit the mount on your ball head. P.S. The manufacturers mount the clamps using Locktite, they are mounted on real good and it takes the exact right tool and some muscle to get the original clamps to break free. Make sure you have the right tools so you don't compromise your existing ball head.

Q: 5. Which quick release plate fit for Sony 200-600mm lens ?

A: This Wimberley P30 Quick Release Plate would not work with the Sony 200-600mm lens but these will all work, https://bhpho.to/3lVjnev

Q: 6. Will this plate work on a sony 100-400 gm?

A: Yes it will.

Q: 7. if i mount this on to my canon 70-200 f2.8L IS II on a ballhead, would I be able to fit the Vello CB-600 Straight Flash Bracket on the front of the plate?

A: At least my Wimberley quick release plate does not have threads in the (appropriate size) round holes that it has. Therefore I can not directly connect my (old Hama) flash bracket plate under it. I could connect it through the holes by using an additional bolt with washer and nut. (I hope I understood the intended configuration right.)

Q: 8. I have only used level type Arca Swiss type releases. How do you prevent a twist type from coming loose?

A: The twist knob in the Wimberley C-12 Quick Release Clamp (2.5", 6.4 cm Long) does not get loose on its own. It takes many turns of the knob to open and close the clamp. You don't need to do anything special to keep it from unscrewing on its own.

Q: 9. Will an Arco-type release plate fit a standard Manfrotto tripod head?

A: No, Manfrotto heads are typically proprietary.

Q: 10. Is this the correct wimberley plate for Canon 300 2.8 ii ?

A: The Wimberley P20 Quick Release Plate, BH # WIQRPP20 would be the proper model. https://bhpho.to/2PyESow

[0.6 lb] Added this to my new Arca-Swiss Z1+ 3/8 monoball head. Works terrific with all of my various Arca style plates, and is small, compact, and it threads directly onto my heads 3/8 threads, without any adapters. All metal construction, so it matches the quality of the Arca-Swiss, and it also keeps a low profile. Nice!

[Aluminum] I got this clamp for my Naturescapes skimmer, as suggested in the skimmer add-on item list. Works great, JUST screws on nicely and sets snuggly with the 3 set-screws. It completes my low-angle solution, along with a pair of reading glasses to view my camera's LCD while sitting on the ground.

[Aluminum] Solid build quality, includes hardware for a wide variety of mounts, and even the printed instructions are great. Has no issue holding a 600mm/F4 lens on a monopod for long hikes.
