Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this case work for Zeiss Batis lenses as well?

A: Unfortunately, the Zeiss Batis lenses have a wider diameter than the Zeiss Loxia lenses, so lens cutouts in the ZEISS Loxia Transport Case/Bag wouldn't fit the Zeiss Batis lenses appropriately.

Q: 2. Does it come with a de-click tool or we have to buy separately?

A: What is a de-click tool? I guess the answer is no..,

Q: 3. Does the extra weatherseal blue gasket cause any problems with locking to an A6300 (or A7) body?

A: I use this on both and the seal is excellent, not at all loose like some other lenses i tried. Great lens.

Q: 4. Does 5 Axis Stabilization with the Will Will 5 Axis Stabilization of the Sony A7II work with this lens, or are only 2 of the 5 active?

A: The Steady Shot feature in this camera works independently of the lens.

Q: 5. Will this case fit the older style Zeiss SLR lenses (inlays) as I have 3, I'm looking for a case that will support those as well as a 100 Milvus? Thanks Phil.

A: Yes, the new case will fit both the ZEISS 'Classic' as well as the new Milvus lenses. There are specific inlays available for each lens type, which hold it securely within one of the six openings.

Q: 6. Why would I choose this over the Sony Zeiss 50mm 1.8 autofocus lens?

A: If you're using an A7 (or s or r or ii) this lens covers the full frame of the sensor. The lens is really designed for those cameras. I'm not positive but I'm fairly certain the Sony FE 55 1.8 is the only native mount lens in that focal length that does cover that sensor and has autofocus.Comparing it to that lens, you would also get it if you wanted a declicked aperture for video, similar to a cine lens. The autofocus is also not much of worry if you're shooting video primarly (as there is no particularly useful video autofocus with large sensor cameras yet.) Aesthetically, which might have been your question all along, the zeiss lens does have a different look than the Sony lens. Out of focus details are very smooth and the bokeh is quite nice. Like other Zeiss glass, it renders contrast in a particular way, not neccesarily better or worse, but the image has a quality that lens nerds call '3d.' Sometimes objects sort of pop from the frame and have interesting separation from the foreground. That said, if you're not looking to use on an a7 or full frame variant and you're not looking for a native-mount (as in, not adapted) lens primarily for video, I can't say the zeiss loxia presents a particularly good value.

Q: 7. When is the expected release date for this lens?

A: This item is still available only as a pre-order and has not come into our inventory yet. You can choose to be notified by email when this item becomes available by clicking on the Notify When in Stock icon on the product page.

Q: 8. is there an options for a 100mm otus insert? It fits in fourth space using foam around, but not nearly as stable.

A: There is not option on the ZEISS Otus Transport Case to get foam for the Otus 100mm lens.

Q: 9. Is the case small enough to be carry-on luggage?

A: Yes, the ZEISS Loxia Transport Case is quite compact and easily fits into the overhead luggage compartment.

Q: 10. How do I use a manual lens on A7II, do I set the camera to aperture priority?

A: Use A or M with a manual lens. If you use M you control aperture by the ring on the lens and shutter speed by the ring at the rear of the body. In that case, it's best to fix your ISO (not too low) rather than use Auto ISO. The a7 family of camera bodies lets you see in the finder or LCD exactly what effect your exposure settings are going to have, in real time, which Exposure Compensation on other cameras will not do for you. Enjoy it. Louis Hamel

[7.65 lb] I started with the Loxia 21mm lens and was very much fascinated by how it renders the color and contrast with the reputablepop, so that I have now all but the 50mm Loxia in my collection (because the Sony-Zeiss Sonnar 55mm f/1.8 which I already had, is outstanding in it's own right). Personally, I find the manual focusing more advantageous for creative shooting but if you are looking for action shots, this may not be the type of lens for you. However, the quality of this lens oozes highest standards so that I also see those lenses as an investment, perhaps.
I should add that I no longer give too much credence to MTF data. This lens is supposedly a bit soft full open in the corners, but I see nothing but tack sharp images across the frame, even.wide open. This, as all the other Loxia lenses simply produce very sharp and beautiful images with, by my perception, a beautiful bokeh.

There are two issues I have:
1.) The mounting of the Loxia lenses, it takes a bit of praxis. However, taking the advise from another person's posting here, I ordered the lens grip from Pocketpano.de and when applied, it lets you mount / unmount the lens with ease.

2.) Don't expect images to be sharp by going to full stop at infinity, because your images will be blurry. Best sharpness it is slightly below full stop.
Then again, I have noticed that also with many competitor's manual lenses and I don't understand why this cannot, or is not done right.
Other than that, I highly recommend this Lens.

[7.65 lb] Just love this lens. Excellent build quality, superb images and just a joy to use the Manual Focus. Top notch color contrast, slight CA at wide open aperture, but can be corrected easily. Very happy with the purchase.

[7.65 lb] This lens is expensive. But it's worth the cost. It is exceedingly sharp, easily equals by 55 mm za. Most have noted, and so did I, that the lens operates smoothly and feels solid. Manual focusing engages when the camera recognizes the lens, saving going into the focus menu. Mounted on my A7R2, focusing was slow because of the relatively low resolution of the viewfinder (2.6 M pixels). Focusing is much easier with the high- resolution viewfinder of my A7R4 (5.6 M pixel).

[7.65 lb] The Zeiss Loxia series is outstanding, and the 35mm is my personal favorite. It's a perfect compact lens for the Sony a7 series. The manual focus activates the automatic zoom (enlargement for focus) and focus peaking (if you select that feature in the camera menu). I love the Zeiss color rendition - especially with my Sony a7RV. Makes me slow down and enjoy the "intentionality" of manual focus.

[7.65 lb] I'm a retro-grouch who has used manual focus RF equipment since the age of the dinosaurs. As such, I prefer the manual focus experience on my Sony as well. From that perspective alone, this lens delivers! Exquisite smoothness and superb construction put this lens up with the very best. And the optical performance? Just attaching the lens and looking through the viewfinder told me all I needed to know. The rendering has the classic Zeiss look, with a wonderful dimensionality, without the excessive contrast that sometimes mars the performance of modern lenses. Sharpness is breathtaking; I don't pixel peep, but wide open, in the corners, the trees silhouetted on the mountaintop three miles away are as crisp and undistorted as they are in the center at f/8. Beats every other lens I have, and will probably be my new favorite 50mm. If you don't need or want autofocus, and want this focal length, buy this lens!

[7.65 lb] Great lens for my A7s ii, no auto focus but the lens is a great addition to any kit.

[7.65 lb] One of the biggest joys in shooting mirrorless is the size, so it didn’t make sense for me to stick a huge lens on my A7. Beautiful color matched with a somewhat quirky bokeh, its images have a very pleasing and unique look. Great little lens that won’t cost a fortune

[7.65 lb] The loxia 50mm is my very first manual lens.

It helped me to picked up the joy of taking photos again.

[7.65 lb] If you are a purist like me and want an excellent image quality providing lens, then consider this lens too. Excellent contrast, micro-contrast, colors, sharpness and Zeiss character. Dont hesitate if you have this on your wish list, push the button and will not regret it.
