Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Which is the correct size to get for the Milvus 15mm F2.8? The lens diameter is 95mm just outside the recommended range of the large one.

A: You're going to need the ZEISS Lens Gear (Medium) since the Milvus 15mm's focus ring has an outer diameter of 80mm.

Q: 2. I have the LOXIA 35mm and the 50mm lenses. Which size NEW Zeiss Lens Gear Ring, (Mini, Small, Medium, or Large), do I order to fit my LOXIA lenses?

A: All three Loxia lenses use the Mini size. Zeiss Lens Gear (Mini) B&H # ZENDLGMI.

Q: 3. What prevents the twist-tightened gear from becoming loose during use?

A: ZEISS Lens Gears utilize a tool-less friction lock which requires sufficient force to be loosened and tightened. When a Lens Gear is properly affixed the force applied by a follow focus is not sufficient to loosen the Lens Gear during normal use.

Q: 4. So can this be used with the mew Milvis 100mm lens? The specs make it a touch confusing.

A: Not this model but yes there is a version specifically for the Milvus 2/100M. B

Q: 5. How many teeth this ring has?

A: The medium size has 123 teeth.

Q: 6. Does this fit the Sony 18-105mm f/4 G OSS?

A: This gear may be too small for the 18-105mm, plus it is meant for specific Zeiss lenses. Instead we recommend something like the Wide Open Camera Universal Lens Gear, this will work with the 18-105mm.https://bhpho.to/2mtNn2G

Q: 7. Can this be easily removed? Or is it a semi-permanent installation? Can I take it on and off easily?

A: The ZEISS Lens Gear (Mini) are slid onto the lens and attached to the focus ring of the lens simply by turning the two counteracting rings. This means the ZEISS Lens Gears can be attached in a flash and the design is tool less so it can be removed quickly.

Q: 8. Is this the correct size for the Otus 100mm f=1:1.4?

A: The ZEISS Otus 100mm f/1.4 ZE Lens for Canon EF BH #ZE10014OZEC: Dimensions (ø x L): 3.98 x 5.08" / 101 x 129 mm The ZEISS Lens Gear (Large) - BH #ZENDLGL fits lenses 86-93mm in diameter.

A: Yes, the Lens Gear size large will work on the Zeiss Otus 100mm lens.

Q: 10. Trying to put this onto old vintage Cooke speed panchro. Will this work on 18,25,32,50,100mm? Thanks!

[0.8 MOD] I can say with confidence that the other reviewer is completely incorrect and that these fit perfect. I have 3 of these and I put them on each of my loxias. They fit perfect once the gum-gum is attached and they in no way budge whatsoever. The quality is fantastic and though the price is high, it's worth it. Either the other reviewer didn't apply the gum-gum correctly or had his rings facing the wrong way for the loxia series? I am not sure what's going on with theirs, but I can tell you that my version gets so tight that there is absolutely no way it will even budge in the slightest once you have it tightened all the way.

[0.8 MOD] These are perfect for Loxia lenses. I bought 4 for all of mine (still waiting for the pre-ordered 85mm F2.4) for video work with A7Sii and eventually with FS5. Using the rings with Edelkrone Focus One and they do the job perfectly - as close as you can get to a true cine setup. Absurdly expensive but as professional as it gets for these types of applications. I occasionally use Loxias for photo work too and I actually prefer to leave these rings on all the time even for photo work as the Loxias are just too small for my hands to comfortably focus and these rings are wonderful even for focusing with bare hands - much better grip, especially if you wear gloves in cold weather.

[71 to 77 mm] When it first arrived, it was too loose for my Loxia lenses. I sent it to Zeiss in NY, and honestly i'm not sure what they did, but it works perfectly now. I think maybe the gumgum that came with it was too small or something...

[0.235 lb] The most beautifully crafted lens gear I have come across other than having your lens professionally cine-modded. The other reviewer saying it did not fit snug had to have ordered the wrong size or put the gum-gum on incorrectly. Works perfect on my Loxia. Once this is tightened on your lens, there is no way humanly possible you can move it in the slightest. Pricey, but in this situation it's actually worth it.

[Aluminum] The Zeiss Lens Gears are rock solid. Installation is simple. Once tightened in place around the lens's focus ring, it feels like it is built-in a cine-mod that leaves auto-focus in place for stills shooting! I use the Medium size with the Sigma Art 24mm, 50mm, and 18-35. I use the Large size with the Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS ii.

[0.235 lb] Tried multiple gears for lenses that have no gears. I usually work on video. Without a doubt this is the one to get. Unfortunately it is expensive, but there is no other.

[71 to 77 mm] These install very easily and won't damage your lens. But carefully check your barrel diameter before ordering, and cross-reference that to the specs of the Zeiss gear model (Small, Medium, Large). They are not universal.
