Bright-eyed and wide-angled, the Canon EF-mount ZEISS Otus ZE 4-Lens Bundle Canon EFis an optically-refined prime poised to deliver a high degree of resolution and clarity in nearly any shooting condition. Featuring an apochromatic design, and utilizing the Distagon concept to reduce distortion, this lens uses a series of eight anomalous partial dispersion glass elements and two aspherical elements to virtually eliminate chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the aperture range. A floating elements system is also used for consistent performance throughout the focusing range and a ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating suppresses lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity. Equaling the optical prowess of a Strigidae-inspired lens, the Otus 28mm f/1.4 is also characterized by a robust physical design for intuitive, exacting handling.

The wide-angle focal length pairs with the bright f/1.4 maximum aperture to suit working in broad variety of lighting conditions and is well-suited to a range of applications, including landscape, architecture, and interior photography. Accentuating the range of control, this manual focus lens is complemented by haptic design elements, including a rubberized focus ring and an all-metal lens barrel with high-visibility yellow scale markings.

Wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 44.8mm equivalent focal length.

Impressively bright f/1.4 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

Distagon optical concept affords high sharpness, well-corrected image quality from edge-to-edge, and very low field curvature.

Apochromatic optical design utilizes eight anomalous partial dispersion elements to significantly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and color fidelity.

Two aspherical elements control distortion and spherical aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and more accurate rendering.

ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.

Floating elements system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range, from 11.8" to infinity.

Manual focus design is benefitted by focusing and depth of field scales, which are filled with a high-visibility yellow paint, along with hard stops at both infinity and minimum focusing positions.

All-metal lens barrel has a frosted, anodized surface along with a rubberized focusing ring for both durability and improved tactile control.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Apertura of the lenses manual or digital?

A: The ZEISS Milvus ZE lenses utilize an electronic aperture, controlled via the camera.

Q: 2. Does this come with the 4 lens case or the 6 lens case?

A: The four-lens case is included.

Q: 3. do the lenses fit in the case with the focus gear attached?

A: Yes, the lenses will fit with the lens gears attached.

Q: 4. Can I put an 86-82mm step down ring and a relatively thick filter on without mechanical vignette?

A: This combination will create vignetting on the ZEISS Otus 1.4/85 lens and is not recommended.

Q: 5. Why are there only 3 lenses listed in the description but the title says 4-lens set?

A: The description, Key Features, and "In the Box" list four lenses: Milvus 25mm f/1.4 ZF.2 Lens Milvus 35mm f/1.4 ZF.2 Lens Milvus 50mm f/1.4 ZF.2 Lens Milvus 85mm f/1.4 ZF.2 Lens

Q: 6. Which adaptor does B & H recommend for the F Mount Lens/FX format if I intend to use the lens on a Sony A7R camera?

A: You can use the Voigtlander Adapter for Sony E Mount Cameras--Nikon F Mount Lens: a href= http://bhpho.to/1jwxfRW target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1jwxfRW/a

Q: 7. I have the Sony a7r2 & the new a9Would like to purchase this lenseWhat adapter will be the best to use with thisClass of lense. And do we loose if anything

A: Using the ZEISS Otus 1.4/85 ZF.2 would require a F-to-E mount adapter. There are many options available from B&H Photo as you will see by using the link below. These adapters are simply spacers that move the lens to its specified flange focal distance - in this case 46.5mm. Keep in mind, the F-to-E mount adapters do not provide communication with the Sony camera body, so there is no meta data transferred, metering is manual and the lens' aperture needs to be stopped down prior to exposure. Many customers prefer to use EF lenses and a 'smart' EF-to E adapter, due to the communication between lens, adapter and camera. a href= https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?atclk=Lens+Fitting_Nikon&ci=3420&origSearch=lens+adapters&N=4077634486+3839671235+4289371044& target= _blank https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?atclk=Lens+Fitting_Nikon&ci=3420&origSearch=lens+adapters&N=4077634486+3839671235+4289371044&/a

Q: 8. Can this lens work on a Nikon FM3A film camera? And how about Leica M cameras?

A: Yes, the ZEISS Otus 14/85 will work on this FM3A camera. For a complete list of compatible cameras, visit our site at: https://www.zeiss.com/camera-lenses/int/photography/content/camera-mounts.html. With regards to compatibility with M mount cameras, yes it can be used with any 3rd party F-mount to m-mount adapter.

Q: 9. Where is it made?

A: The ZEISS Otus lenses are designed by ZEISS in Germany and manufactured in Japan.

Q: 10. Has anyone tried to use a meta bones speed booster to adapt the EF version to a m4/3? Currently using a GH5 for video.

A: Yes the ZEISS Otus 85mm would be compatible with the Metabones Speed Booster and the GH5.

[f/16] Everything about this lens is as advertised. If you know what you want to do with this lens and can cope with its drawbacks (manual focus, bulky, heavy, significant 270-turning radius), you will find no finer 35MM lens. It simply blows away Nikon's best--across the board. In the first shoot that I used it, I was able to deploy it in a situation where I would normally use the 70-200 2.8. At about 40 feet from the subjects, it captured greater resolution, superb color rendition and next to zero chromatic aberration. If you don't believe me, go to the B+H counter and take one demo shot with it. Stunning.

[95 mm (Front)] This lens is amazing. After shooting it for a week the photos from other pro Nikon lenses look simply not as great. The quality and details are stunning. Yes, it's big, it's heavy, it's manual and quite expensive, but the picture quality and look is worth this spend. Using it together with my d810 I'm very close to medium format.

[28mm] This lens is amazingly sharp throughout its f stop range. I test each new lens for its sweet spot for maximum resolution. This one is sweet throughout. Paired with a Nikon D800E, it gives even better results than the Makro-Planar 2/100 ZF.2. Recent application in dark recesses of a restored historical fort were very satisfying.

[Canon EF] This is my third Zeiss, second Otus, for my Nikon D810A. The 85/1.4 arrives tomorrow. I recently took this lens, the 28/1.4, the Milvus 15, and several Nikon and Sigma lenses, p.us an additional D810 body and tripods to the Maldives. Schlepping that much weight was not trivial, but easily worth it. I ended up using the 55 more than any of the other lenses. I had forgotten how challenging and liberating it is to see the world through a normal focal length. But other than that, there is nothing normal about this lens. As other reviewers have noted, the images OOTC look like they have already been processed. Color, clarity, and contrast produce a natural 3D effect. I have included two images I shot handheld of a small about -inch long crag next to a pool. Sun was overhead around midday, so light was flat and not flattering. My focus here is not very good, but it's good enough to illustrate the point. Zero processing other than the crop, and the JPEG quality compression. The crop is approximately 3:1, and the amount of detail is just amazing. And this is with significant image compression to get the pics small enough to upload here. Shot was 1/1250 at 4.5. In RAW, on a 4K iMac, these are something else. The cons about these lenses are well-known: size, weight, expense. Makes it a pretty easy decision for most. For me, although difficult to transport, I cannot imagine leaving any of these lenses home.

[f/16] Just received and using on a CANON 1Dx and so far photos exceptional in resolution, sharpness and color. May be the best lens at this format I have used and I will consider this combination my mini Leica S.

[Full-Frame] This lense performs as advertised. It is very sharp wide open at 1.4 with just a few small hints of CAs... but beware that it is also very hard to see the focus point with the standard optical viewfinders found in today's SLRs such as the Nikon 800s or the Canon 5D3s. This is a must lens if you work mostly near F1.4 but not so if you shoot F5.6 to F16 as the difference between this stellar piece of glass and another less expensive but premium design will quickly vaporize. The lens is way too large to use with EVF cameras like the Sony A7R and for me it is not a lens that I would use to shoot street scenes. Perfect for the studio and tripod work!

[95 mm (Front)] After four months of high anticipation and waiting, the otus finally arrived. When you open the box, the size of otus needs to be seen in person to realize just how big it is. It is roughly the same size as the Nikon 24-70mm, but with a fatter barrel. The focus ring is smooth as reported by many, and with enough resistance to limit any further movement when you've hit focus. I'm on the fence with the rubber ring, as it attracts dirt from dusty hands, especially when you're out in the field. Apart from that I'm extremely happy with the images. Large aperture can produce an extremely thin DOF, and the out of focus area is just millimeteres apart. Images from this are crisp and sharp. Focusing is not too bad with the D800E, which aleviated one of my earlier concerns with this lense.

[95 mm (Front)] I own already Zeiss zf 25/2, 35/2 and 100/2 and they are my most used lenses on the Nikon 800. I was pleasantly surprised that the Otus 55/1.4 is in many respects even better than my other Zeiss lenses. Notably, the excellent sharpnes wide open over the entire FOV, the very smooth transition from in-focus to out-of-focus parts of the image, plus the beautiful color rendering. Manual Focus is quite easy due to the wide throw of the focus ring - I have clibrated the focus confirmation indicator, and I have no problems getting tack sharp picture when hand holding. I use this lens mainly for landscape, for architecture and for general photography. I believe the lens is best at medium and far distances. For close-ups and bokeh I prefer the zf 100/2.

[28mm] So sharp, even when wide open, that it shows itself best on high megapixel bodies like the D800e or D810. Manual only operation makes it best suited to studio work.
