The IK Multimedia T-RackS EQ 73 - Preamp & EQ Plug-In Downloadfrom IK Multimedia T-RackS EQ 73 - Preamp & EQ Plug-In Downloadis a plug-in module based on part of a classic, large-format British mixing console, and features a preamp section and 3-band EQ. The original hardware was first introduced as a standalone rackmount module in 1970, and quickly became a studio staple, favored by recording engineers the world over for its rich harmonics and full Class-A sound.

All of the gain stages, circuit designs, and EQ curves and shapes been extensively modeled in the software, including the preamp behavior, saturation, and preamp/EQ interaction. The tone-shaping capabilities don't stop with the analog-sounding EQ, since the preamp section is able to add "grit" or distortion to tracks, resulting in a wider sonic palette.

The 3-band EQ can be used to add character to even the most "sterile" or cold tracks. High-end air and low-end punch can be boosted without ever sounding harsh or boomy, while the "presence" band is an invaluable tool for sculpting the body of a track. The plug-in can sound great on virtually every audio source, but especially kicks, snares, overheads, bass, guitars and vocals.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How useful for a DJ setup?

A: The specific equipment used in the DJ setup would dictate how useful the addition of the Golden Age Project EQ-73 Premier Vintage-Style 3-Band Equalizer into the signal chain would be. Most DJ mixers feature similar onboard EQ that would render the EQ-73 relatively redundant. Another consideration is the EQ-73's single channel connectivity where most DJ setups utilize stereo outputs.

Q: 2. 110 and 220 Volts or just 110? +4dBu or -10dBV?

A: The Golden Age Project EQ-73 3-Band Equalizer comes with a separate 24V AC power adapter. The power adapter that is included with the EQ-73 that B&H sells is intended for use in North America and is designed for 110V. The nominal operating level is -18 dBu. The EQ-73 cannot be used as a standalone EQ. It is made to be used together with the Golden Age Project PRE-73 Preamp which has has an insert jack. The control range for the EQ-73 is +/-15 dB for the low and mid frequency bands, and +/-18 dB for the high frequency band. The nominal operating level is -18 dBu.

Q: 3. Would this unit work well to EQ lavalier mics? Mobile DJ who uses them in many different environments. Thanks!

A: This equilizer would be used to adjust the main output of a sound mixer system, and would allow you to focus in frequencies that may be causing feedback. Idividual channels on a mixing board would be used to adjust the microphones.

Q: 4. Is it compatible with mounting celestron advanced cg5 gt?

A: It works with my CG-5 mount, which I purchased in 2003.

Q: 5. will this one will work with nexstar 60SLT ?

A: No, the Celestron NexStar+ EQ Hand Controller is only for EQ mounts, and can only be used with the Celestron NexStar 60 SLT 2.4"/60mm Refractor Telescope Kit if one flashes the firmware for the AZ mounts. A better option is to get the Celestron NexStar+ AZ Hand Controller, BH #CENSHCUA (https://bhpho.to/3K5P93F).

Q: 6. is this control will work with nexstar 60 SLT

A: for their Advanced VX, CGEM, CGEM II, CGEM DX, CGX, and CGE Pro motorized and computer-controlled equatorial telescope mounts ONLY

Q: 7. Will this work with an iMac?

A: It will work with many Macs, but not all. If you have a pair of earbuds with a built-in microphone, you can use these to test if your Mac will work, as these use the same wiring scheme as iRig Mic.

Q: 8. Weight?

A: The manufacturer has not specified the weight of the Golden Age Project EQ-73 MKII Equalizer but I would estimate that it is approximately 5 lbs.

Q: 9. When will I be able to use this mic with an iPhone 6 or 6S?

A: Immediately. It plugs into the headphone jack and works like any other mic or headset.

Q: 10. Will this work with an Advanced GT, maybe with a firmware change?

A: Yes, the NexStar+ EQ Hand Control is compatible with the older Advanced GT mount.

[Yes] I purchased the dbx 231s primarily to enhance my experience playing 78 rpm records. Even with a proper turntable, cartridge and stylus, the issue that remains is the fact that 78s were produced with a variety of equalization curves (that's plural!). A current standard phono preamp with RIAA equalization cannot properly reproduce the 78 recordings. There are a number of off the shelf devices designed to solve this problem, ranging from quite inexpensive (and useless!) to astronomically pricey and not much in between. Following up on some thoughtful advice and some of my own getting into the weeds on this, I'm finding that the graphic equalizer is a satisfying solution.

[Yes] I have this as the sound processor for my kitchen system of JBL subwoofer and 2 JBL active monitors. I use it regularly and have had zero issues with its operation since putting it in service April 2017, now September 2022. This is not a critical listening area but it gets a lot of use. I detect no added noise. All controls work like new. I also have an older 215s and it too works just fine after years of service.
