Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this pack be pressed down less than 3" thick when empty to fit it flat into a larger suitcase?

A: The Think Tank Photo Shape Shifter 15 V2.0 Backpack (Black) has exterior dimensions of 18.9 x 12 x 7", so it's not possible to squeeze the 7" dimensions into less than 3".

Q: 2. Could I put a Nikon D750 with Sigma 35 1.4 lens attached into the foldable pocket or would I need to remove the lens?

A: I can answer with how the folding flap works to hold the camera in place; The bottom flap folds up first over the camera. The second and third flap folds over left and right. The top side is open and faces the bottom of the lens pouch positioned above. In experimenting for your question, a vertical configuration will work, but I would consider it a, In a pinch . The designed configuration secures your cam from shifting around. The versatility and utility of this bag is proving to be an asset in the field.

Q: 3. can you take this bag as carry on?

A: Yes, I have the 17 v2.0 and took it on a trip to Europe with no problems. Had a laptop, iPad, Canon 6D with grip, 24-70 2.8L, 70-200 2.8L, both with hoods, a 600EX, GoPro, chargers and had room for more. It's a great travel bag and will more than fit in the overhead bin or under the seat.

Q: 4. Steve's review below said the 15 is half the weight of the 17, but the specs say they are very close. Anyone know?

A: The Think Tank Photo Shape Shifter 17 V2.0 Backpack (Black) weighs 4.6 lbs (2.1kg) with a rain cover, waist belt, and water bottle pouch. The Think Tank Photo Shape Shifter 15 V2.0 Backpack (Black) weighs 4.3 lbs (2 kg) with the same accessories.

Q: 5. Would you be able to fit the Nikon 500 5.6 PF lens into the same pouch as the 70-200 2.8 that is shown in the images?

A: Unfortunately this bag is too small for the 500mm and the 70-200mm. I would recommend the Lowepro Flipside 500, click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/2OZQu2G

Q: 6. Can this bag fit a 16" MacBook Pro? I know there's a 17 version, but dimensions seem like a 16 could fit in this. Not sure.

A: Yes, the Think Tank Photo Shape Shifter 15 V2.0 Backpack will accommodate a 16" Apple MacBook Pro.

Q: 7. Will a 2016/17 MacBook Pro 13 fit in the tablet compartment?

A: If it has the same dimensions as the V1.0, the MacNook Pro will definitely not fit.

Q: 8. Does the tripod have to be secured on the back of this or can it be attached to the side also?

A: Ideally the back would be best with this back. The side pocket isn't deep enough for a standard sized tripod nor does it have side straps to lock it from moving around.

Q: 9. Two questions - 1. Would this hold the Sigma 150-600mm Sport, along with an 18-200mm and the camera body. 2. Is it water proof?

A: Yes, the Think Tank Photo Shape Shifter 17 V2.0 Backpack (Black) should be able to hold the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens along with an 18-200mm lens and a camera body. The backpack is not waterproof, but it is constructed with water-repellent fabric coated on the underside with DWR polyurethane. It also includes a rain cover

Q: 10. Will a Sony A7II with grip fit in this pack?

A: This backpack is designed to fit a gripped body at the bottom. So your camera will fit if you place the body of the camera at the bottom of the backpack with the lens facing up toward the top. It will not fit with the camera body inserted at the top of the backpack with the lens facing down. There is not enough depth from the front to the back off the backpack at the top end to fit a gripped body.

[Yes] I have several different style camera bags. I use this bag for my travel bag. if you don't like the bottle water holder, it can be removed. I like this because the bag is collapsible. It is very useful when you are in the city. if you need to hold many lenses, it is able to hold many lenses without any problems. The component for computer storage is awesome. I can use this bag for work as well

[21.3 x 18 x 7"] Picked up the Shape Shifter for a trip I’m taking with a band marching into 2020 Rose Parade. The parade is only one day, but it is really a week long event for the band and a lot of travel, performing, and sightseeing. I wanted something smaller then my rollers, and I have never liked the traditional photo backpacks with the dividers. I packed it up for a dry run and it all fits great. I’m taking two mirrorless cameras, and two lenses (Nikon Z6 with a 24-70mm, and a Sony A9ii with the 100-400mm), and a Profoto A1, 15” MacBook Pro, PlataPod and mini ball head, plus all the other assorted little items (cards, batteries, cables).

It all fits and seems well protected.

[Yes] We travel a LOT! In doing so what I want in a bag is something that can conform to what Im doing and not have to take multiple bags. This thing expands to take a bunch of stuff on the airplane including my camera gear and computer(s) - then when I get to my destination it shrinks down to what I want to use on the day Im using it. It is super comfortable and by far the most adaptable bag Ive ever used. It ROCKS!

[Yes] Its a very compatible and spacious bag for my photojournalism needs. I highly recommend it to photographers. The best feature is that you can reduce the thickness of the bag and the way the weight gets distributed because of the extra zipper.

[Black] I am a fine art photographer who has not yet fully graduated to digital. I have a day job which allows me to travel, sometimes internationally. Sometimes for reasons of security and sometimes because I may not be comfortable walking into a business meeting with a honking camera bag, I am always looking for discreet easy to carry camera bags. The included gear protection - pouches etc. work well. Once you open the zipper to expand this pack it begins to become less discreet and probably offers less protection for gear than some of the other Think Tank and MindShift packs. That's no surprise. The big surprise, however, is that I can easily fit a Hasselblad V film camera - meaning camera without prism finder but with back and a lens attached, two additional Hasselblad lenses, a lense hood, a couple of 60mm filters, a Sony a7riii and two manual focus prime lenses, accessories such as film, memory cards, cable releases and a 13 laptop, chargers for the laptop and the Sony, a couple of extra batteries for the Sony etc. (also putting a few these things in the external pockets) - with the expansion zipper closed so that the width of the pack is only about 3 inches. You do have to unzip the expansion zipper to access the interior - a minor extra step. I added the separately sold padded waste belt which allows you to attach accessory pouches to have quicker access to a lens, film, or anything else. This is a recent purchase, but so far very happy for the reasons above and quality of fit and finish which make me think it should hold up well.

[Yes] I have my Nikon Z6 with Nikon leses14-30 and 70-200 2.8, Kase filter system and all the accessories like the extra butteries and rechargers and more, all packed in it and be able to close it (bit snag) to 3 thick. Did not take it for the trip yet, will see how it will perform in the real action.

[Universal] An excellent & versatile bag! Holds most of everything with lots of room to spare...most recent carry in main compartment were two Nikon D3S, 70-200mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8, 17-35mm 2.8 & 50mm 1.4. Additionally, 15” MacPro laptop with charger & cord, card readers & many other items in other compartments. Bag does exactly what it was designed to do, very functional & rides well on my back too. Straps are ridiculously thick & comfortable. Wish it had a grab handle on the bottom of the bag. Very happy with the purchase!

[21.3 x 18 x 7"] great great great the shifter collapsing system its just great. now i can more around many places that i'm working and not being worried about hitting some person or thing. also its collapsing system is very useful to bring the packback and put it somewhere inside a airplane. many pockets for everything that u could or should put inside to make your workflow better than ever. straps are very comfortable and anatomic.

[Yes] I was skeptical about ThinkTanks claims but they are true. I am currently on the road, with plane and hotel changes, and this bag has really made things easy.

The shapeshifter took my D850, the 2.8 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200. Also the 8-15. Why all that? Because the bag could handle the load. There is an outside zipper that expands the size of the bag and I didn’t need to use it. All that stuff and a thin profile.

It is well worth the cost.

[21.3 x 18 x 7"] Trip #1 was a week-long trip in Germany, not necessarily a professional trip, I had my 5-year old twins, wife and mother-in-law with me. Not to mention, I was the ‘travel guide’ so I took minimal photography gear. Trip #2 was an overnight business trip to Chi-town, that called for a couple lenses and camera body.

Both trips I brought my massive 17inch computer and I wanted something compact. This is a tall order for that size of laptop, camera and multiple lenses. Oh, and I wanted my stuff to feel safe :-)

The SHAPE SHIFTER 17 V2.0 was a perfect solution. I was surprise how far it zipped down while containing everything! Feel confident on a more photography focused trip it would have been stellar! This is my third ThinkTank bag. I have two other professional bas from other companies and I would recommend ThinkTank ALL … DAY.. LONG!
