Tiffen 52mm Graduated Sunrise  Filter is half-color, half-clear, in a rotating mount, with a graduated transition for blending into the scene. The Color Graduated Sunrise is part of Tiffen's award-winning series of Color Graduated filters and one of the most widely used. It enhances reality, adding a touch of subtlety or drama to the image.

This filter gives you the ability to add more "punch" to an otherwise ordinary scene. The yellow-orange this filter adds can bring more drama to a sunrise. Tiffen Graduated filters give you the control you need to create a scene as opposed to just shooting a scene. Sometimes it is also desirable to add color to part of the photograph. For example, to add blue to only the sky.

With graduated filters, often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes.

Whether at the pro or Photo 1 level, Tiffen filters have always been the industry's first choice. Tiffen, a leader in the filter industry, proudly makes its filters in the USA and backs up its products with a solid 10-year warranty.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will these filters cause vignetting on a 12mm Rokinon f2 lens (mirror less)?

A: Hi, I have used 14mm and 8mm Rokinon lenses (which are fantastic by the way) but there would be no way to attach these filters onto them because the lens curves out, and there were no threads on mine so I'll assume there's no threads on yours either. Because of the fish-eye character of the lens using a larger 4 ND glass in a holder may work for the center area but would vignette on the edges of the frame. Good luck.

Q: 2. Does this filter add a color cast to the image?

A: Yes when it’s at its darkest. Makes everything blue and unusable. Other than that no. I still get a lot out of it.

Q: 3. Will this ND Filter work well with the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 II Lens? I am unsure if I will get the notorious X-Pattern when blocking the light at 8-Stops, because as mentioned it is a very wide lens (11-16mm). Does anyone have experience? I would buy the lens and the filter together, it seems a good bundle for land- and seascape.

A: Thin version, not for the x pattern, but because the thick version comes into view on wide angle lenses 24mm.

Q: 4. Do these introduce any color cast?

A: Neutral density filters do not cause any color cast or affect the color of an image, but rather, darken an image.

Q: 5. I've been searching everywhere for a variable ND filter for my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. Is this the one that will fit? It fits on the end of the lens right? I have an Olympus 40-150mm 1:4-5.6. then it has a circle with a line through it and a 58 by it. thats the filter thread, right? so if i have an olympus 17mm 1:2.8 pancake lens with a circle with a line through it and a 37 next to it, thats a 37 thread so I'll need this one, right: Polaroid 37mm Neutral Density Fader Filter

A: That is correct. The Olympus 40-150mm f/4-5.6 accepts 58mm filters, and the Olympus 17mm f/2.8 will accept the 37mm filter.

Q: 6. What is the outer diameter to each thread size? For example, the 72mm thread has an outer diameter of 85mm.

A: The outer diameter of the Tiffen 77mm Variable Neutral Density Filter is 88mm, plus or minus a few µm.

Q: 7. So you can put all 3 ND on each other and make a 9 stop ND filter? Will these all stack with each other with a step up ring on? I have a 55mm thread filter lense I want to use this for to but I want them to stack with all of my lenses with step down rings

A: You can stack all three of these filters to create 9 stops, however by doing so you are increasing barrel length. This may result in vignetting as your camera may see the filter rings when shooting at wide focal lengths. A step up ring from 55 to 72mm may help with this, a step down ring would have the opposite effect and result in severe vignetting.

Q: 8. Should this filter have a physical hard stop at both ends? I have a different brand variable ND filter on my 50mm, and the adjustment ring will stop at both ends of the spectrum, where this one just keeps spinning with not stop. Is that a defect or how it's made? I find it annoying to not have the tactile 'stop', so to speak, of open or closed filter. Thanks for your help!

A: Adam,I have one and it does not have a stop, which is annoying. On the outside ring of the filter are Min - Max calibrations, which are not of much help. I just eyeball it until I have the scene, or photo exposed how I want it. This lack of a hard stop also caused me to unscrew the filter from my lens when I was just starting out with it. The last inconvenience is the lack of a lens cap to go over it which is a hassle when you are running and gunning. That said, the filter is a big help for quick lighting adjustments... once you get used to it.

Q: 9. Any vignetting while using aps-c censor with 16 mm lens ( 24mm on full frame)

A: I use these filters with an 18mm lens and havent noticed any significant vignetting. Especially if you are correcting for your Lens profile in photoshop. The only serious draw back is at 18mm the rim of the filter is visible when I stack/screw them together to further slowdown the exposure. I have been getting by this by zooming in slightly to get the rim of the filter out of view. But when only using one filter at a time they work great.

Q: 10. will this filter fit Sigma 18 -35mm art series lens?

A: Get a step up ring and you can fit the 77 or the 82mm version of the Variable ND filter. I use set up rings on all my lenses that aren't 77mm so I can have fewer sets of filters.

[Aluminum] I have been shooting film for over 30 years and can appreciate what these filters were intended for. I know there are ways to use Photoshop for achieving similar results in digital, but Tiffen is famous for supplying high-quality special effect filters for the Film Industry. Great filter to have in your film arsenal as well as digital.
