The RODE Stereo VideoMic Pro Rycote SEO Titlefrom RODE Stereo VideoMic Pro Rycote SEO Titlebuilds on the success of the Stereo VideoMic Pro with a few improved upgrades such as a Rycote Lyre shockmount, higher-sensitivity X/Y capsules, denser foam windscreen, better RF shielding, and a thicker Kevlar braided cable. The microphone retains all of the switch locations and other features as the previous model, for use as an on-camera DSLR and camcorder microphone for video applications.

The integrated Rycote Lyre shockmount system protects against handling noise. The Stereo VideoMic features a high-pass filter switch at 75 Hz for minimizing low-frequency noise, and a -10 dB pad for maximizing headroom on behalf of capturing loud signals without distortion. The +20 dB level-boost switch is specifically designed to provide a higher-quality signal with DSLR cameras. When activated, the camera preamp level is reduced, resulting in a lower noise floor and a much clearer recording.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this microphone screw into a tripod 1/4 20 thread?

A: Yes - the 1/4 -20 female bushing is located on the bottom of the cold shoe mounting foot.

Q: 2. My question concerns any or no compatibility issues between the Rode VideoMic while using the Tascam DR-40 as a recording device. Has anyone experienced problems with both devices simply not working at all together or has experienced unacceptable audible frequency noise due to incompatibility issues?

A: When using the Rode VideoMic with the Tascam DR-40, connection requires an adapter allowing the mic to be input to the XLR jacks. Rode offers the VXLR which is a mini jack to XLR adapter. a href= http://bhpho.to/1AuVVW8 target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1AuVVW8/a The mic will still require the 9 volt battery for power. There should be no issues with compatibility between the 2 units.

Q: 3. Is this a stereo mic?

A: The Rode VideoMic is a mono shotgun mic.

Q: 4. Can you recommend any video cameras for this product?

A: I use this with my Nikon d7200 and it works alright but it works better with my canon 70D and even better with my canon C300. I think the best way to go though is to get an external recorder like a Zoom H1 the sound is a lot better than what your camera can capture. Hope this helped!

Q: 5. Do you need a pistol grip to connect Mic to Boom pole, also how does a portable digital recording device attach to the pole? (if it does)

A: You do not need a pistol grip to attach the mic to the boompole. It connects directly using a 3/8 screw. If your audio recorder has a 1/4-20 female thread, then you will need a 1/4-20 male thread to 3/8 female thread adapter that you can easily find on B&H by searching those words.

Q: 6. Is there a recommended travel case for this mic? I haven't been able to find any zipper like cases to keep it protected while in the camera bag.

A: You may be able to use a padded bag like the K-Tek KGBM1 Medium Gizmo Bag (B&H # KTKGBM1) or perhaps something like the Ruggard Lens Case 6 x 4.5" (B&H # RULCY16X4) or the larger models. As long as the mic will fit, it should provide the protection you need.

Q: 7. Can I buy the schockmount only? I have an older version of this and can no longer get the silly rubber suspension elastics.

A: The RODE VideoMic Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone's integrated shockmount is not available separately.

Q: 8. planning on buying this for my canon 6d mark ii, will this capture any auto-focus noise from my lens? (sigma 24mm)

A: Hello Romel, The VideoMic is a super-cardioid microphone, which means it would cancel some from the side. However, I would recommend turning auto-focus off on any video applications or simply separate the microphone from the camera by using a boom pole if the auto-focus is too loud.

Q: 9. Is the threading for the boompole plastic?

A: its plastic and metal , the main threading is metal

Q: 10. does it have a headphone output?

A: No, but it is an excellent microphone.

[Battery] Is permentaly atached to my Canon 60D, use it everywhere for everything. It is a good quality, value for money. From time to time I might forget to turn the mic on, This is the second Rode video mic I have purchased which bears testimony of it's performance in my situation.

[Cardioid] Turns out to be a very good microphone. I do a lot of weddings and prefer ambient sound in stereo at the reception. This mic does a great job at capturing it.

[Battery] This is the best mic I've used thus far. Does a good job picking up sound when attached to the top of my camera. I have yet to use the boom pole but it looks great. Though it's still in the box. TBH I didn't realize I was purchasing a boom pole and dead cat or I wouldn't have got the 3rd dead cat. Still glad I got it for future use purposes. Never know when you'll need one I guess.

[9 V] I use this mic for DSLR video. It works great plugged directly into the camera, or into a JuicedLink preAmp, then into the camera. This design is far superior to their pervious device with the rubber bands. Delivers clean audio.
