The Porta Brace ATV-788 is a military-style audio tactical vest designed to safely hold and provide convenient access to a Sound Devices 788 recorder and related accessories for sound recordists, mixers, and boom operators in ENG, television, video production, and field recording. Combining the functionality of a bag and harness, the adjustable vest delivers comfortable support and even weight distribution while preserving mobility and equipment access. Padding minimizes fatigue, and the mesh back ensures breathability.

Attach your most commonly needed items to the front of the vest, and store lesser-needed contents on the rear. An NP1 pocket offers a consistent location for your batteries, with additional storage courtesy of an iPad pouch, phone and pen holders, and a rain cover that can serve as an extra pouch. Between recordings, a dedicated clip can hold your boompole so you can rest your arms.

Q: 2. Is this product included with Clear Vinyl Lid?

A: Yes it does.

Q: 3. Does the bag detach from the vest?

A: Yes - the system is modular and the components detach from the vest.

Q: 4. Will The SD 633 fit into this bag?

A: The Porta Brace MXC-442B is designed to accommodate the 442 mixer, unfortunately not compatible with the 633 which would require a larger bag.

Q: 5. Can I reduce its internal width?

A: Thank you for your question. unfortunately you are unable to reduce the internal width of this bag.

Q: 6. What's the difference between the AO-MIXPRE10S and the AO-MIXPRE10TS?

Q: 7. Will this bag have enough room to fit the 442 and a Tascam DR-480 recorder at the same time? Meaning is the other slot big enough for a Tascam recorder?

A: This bag is not kept in stock at B&H or PortaBrace. After 5 weeks of not receiving bag I cancelled order and got a refund.

Q: 8. What size fits this porta brace?, for example my size for a serious shirt m, because I see that the person in the picture that shows the product is one size larger.

A: I'm an asian M. My shoulder width is about 1'15, and this is a little bit big for me. However, with the velcro straps (there's a lot of flexibility), I'm still able to get a good fit.

Q: 9. Is the bag removable from the harness and does it come with a separate shoulder strap?

A: No, it's an all in one package. Everything is attached making it have better support. ( There are attachments, like extra pockets and other holders that can be taken on and off) . It's great for run and gun stuff, nothing bouncing around while you're on the move, and It's easy to slip on and off. Also the boom holder that comes with it, is very helpful.

Q: 10. When can I buy it?

A: Expected availability: 6-8 weeks

[4.85 lb] There are a few solid bag options out there for the 664, but this one is pretty spectacular. Lots of clever cable routing, modular enough for different load-outs. Fully loaded with; central power, wireless boom, 5 lavs, camera hops & separate IFBs for video village and boom, the only cable that ever leaves the bag is my headphone lead. No more rats nest of cables every time I move one thing around in a rush. I've taken to keeping it fully loaded in a pelican case, when I arrive on set, I'm ready to go. No more waiting on sound... Mine's in its 4th year of service and still going strong. Pairs nicely with the Versa-Flex HS1N harness for those longer days on the run, or set it up sideways on a few pelican cases and kick back for talking head interviews. This thing feels like a sound cart with a shoulder strap.

[4.85 lb] Dude, this thing is amazing, it allows me to have all my equipment for a one man band sound guy, without having to place anything on the ground. Even how it distributes the weight, now it feels more even on my shoulders, then my lower back when using a harness with a sound bag. The zipper noise doesn't bother me, you shouldn't be playing with them during takes anyways. Only thing like another review said, is that you should be able to detach the mixer holder from the harness, but other than that I love this thing.

[4.85 lb] We just used this on a 3 day shoot where we were in different locations. Having all the multiple storage options was great! One thing we did find interesting was the zippers. There is a number of zippers on the vest and the cling like little bells when moving. An idea would be to have some rubber grips on them so they ton't chime. We ended up gaff taping the ends. Other than that, we found the vest to be great!

[4.85 lb] Incredible machine! I've been using it for over a year now on various projects and not one single issue.

Be careful of reviews you read on here. There is literally thousands of users out there that have had no issues.

Worth every cent and the flexibility of the unit makes it a powerhouse.
