Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can we get any information on this product vs the camRade cover?

A: Both the Porta Brace and CamRade covers for the FS5 are very new listings. At this time we do not have a lot of information or customer feedback on either. However they are both designed to fit the Sony PXW-FS5 perfectly. Both are returnable items if you wanted to test one out to see how you liked it.

Q: 2. Would a fully assembled Sony FS7 be able to fit into this backpack? I see that Porta Brace offers a backpack for the Sony FS7 -- but it doesn't come with optional wheels? Why not pop some wheels onto the FS7 bag?

A: You are in luck. Porta Brace does make a case for the FS7 with wheels, the Porta Brace RIG-FS7XTOR. Please see attached.

Q: 3. What makes this RIG-FS7XT bag more specific to the FS7 than the RIG-3SRK bag, which costs $34 less?

A: The bags are identical with the difference being what extras come with them. Both of these bags have the same list price from PortaBrace. We were able to get a better price for those wanting the RIG-3SRK. Common to both bags are the: CS-CR CINCH Cam-Corder CinchHB-1040 Suede Shoulder Strap7 Padded Lens Cup4 Padded Lens CupWhite Balance CardThe RIG-FS7XT has:CARA-BRNZ Carabiner & FlashlightCS-B9 Cam-Corder Stuff Sack CS-CR-U Cam-Corder Universal CradlePB-812IP Padded iPad Carrying PouchThe RIG-3SRK has:CC-STUFFER Stuffer BlockDIV-7X13 7 x13 DividerIn the end the RIG-FS7XT for the FS7 wins by a hair because it has the CS-CR-U Cam-Corder Universal Cradle to hold the lens in place better. Plus it comes with a camera stuff sack, iPad pouch and Carabiner & Flashlight. If you get the RIG-3SRK and use it for the FS7, you would have the Stuffer block which may or may not work, a Divider you cannot use and you would not get the camera stuff sack, iPad pouch and Carabiner & Flashlight. $34 bucks extra for the $10,499.00 FS-7 is not bad.

Q: 4. Porta Brace has put out a few different types of bags for the FS7. Im not sure what the difference is between the Porta Brace RIG-FS7 Top Opening Rigid Case for Sony FS7 and the Porta Brace RIG-FS7XT Carrying Case with Kit for Sony FS7.Do both of these bags have wheels on the bottom? Are they both small enough to be carry-ons on a plane?

A: The RIG-FS7XT is a wider bag that allows the FS7 to be carried with grip and viewfinder attached albeit compressed. This allows you to pull the camera out of the bag and be shooting in moments. However, this comes at the cost of carry-on size. Since the bag's exterior dimensions's of 21.3 x 15.0 x 16.0 (54.0 x 38.1 x 40.6) cm are greater than the carry-on size of 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches (22 cm x 35 cm x 56 cm), or the combined length, width and height, (including any handles and wheels) exceeds 45 linear inches (or 114 cm), it cannot be taken by you onto the aircraft. The RIG-FS7, on the other hand, is 21.5 x 10.0 x 12.0 (54.6 x 25.4 x 30.5 cm) and easily fits carry-on requirements. However, this means the case is much narrower and you must remove the right hand grip and the viewfinder before putting the camera in it.

Q: 5. Does this bag fit in the general size of the cabin baggage locker on the plane? It looks a bit high!

A: There is no airline standard for width x height x depth of a carry-on bag. (That being said, 22 x 14 x 9 inches is a very common one.) There is a standard for the total of all three measurements and that is 45 . Thus this bag cannot be considered a carry-on for it's 21.25 x 15 x 16 dimensions combined total 52.5 . You might consider the Porta Brace SMG-2 Smuggler Camera Case (Black) B&H # POSMG2B . Its 3 dimensions add up to 45.5 . Or the Think Tank Photo Video Transport 20 Carry-On Case (Gray) B&H # THVT20. It adds up to 45 . As the experts say, you should check with your airline before you go.

Q: 6. Is this the exact same bag as the Portabrace CC-FS7? If not ... what are the differences?

A: While both the PortaBrace Quick-Draw Camera Case for Sony PXW-FX9 (Black) and the PortaBrace Quick-Draw Camera Case for Sony PXW-FS7 (Black) are similar in size and pocket layout, they are not the same model of bag, with the main difference being the layout of the large interior space.

Q: 7. Not gonna show us any interior pictures?

A: Interior photos are now on the web page.

Q: 8. When it says a "fully assembled" fx9 will fit, does that mean including the XDCA extension unit?

A: Yes, the "fully assembled," Sony PXW-FX9 XDCAM 6K Full-Frame Camera System with XDCA and Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Full-Frame Power Zoom Len can be attached and fit into the PortaBrace Quick-Draw Camera Case for Sony PXW-FX9 (Black).

Q: 9. Will this fit in an airline overhead compartment?

A: Based on the typical allowed carry-on size, this is a few inches too large. However, please check with your airline carrier regarding allowances; in some cases, business and first-class passengers or travelers with media credentials might be allowed larger sizes.

Q: 10. it looks like there is an interior custom stuff pouch attached with velcro. Can I buy more of these?

A: Here are all the Porta Brace stuff bags that you can use for gear and stuffing. They generally have fastener friendly exteriors. https://bhpho.to/2ofm3FA

[Sony PXW-X320] I wanted a relatively light weight bag with a hard shell that I could just put the whole camera in complete with Matte Box one end to a V Lock Battery pack the other, and also leave the view finder in place. A big ask maybe but this bag fills all the needs. Highly recommended.

[1.95 lb] We are a production company in Thailand and shoot a lot in rough enviroments, e.g. jungle or beach. Sweat and the humidity make the cameras look old quickly. The camera body armor is a great protection for that.

[1.95 lb] Fantastic case, i use it with my fs7 with extension unit and a full movcam basekit on it. The only thing that has to come off the camera is the follow focus. The mattebox just manages to sneek into the case. A warning is that this case is huge - much larger than any other camera bag I've seen . It's great that the camera fits while built but the trade off is a very large case that's difficult to shoulder around. Quality is fantastic as always - there is a reason portabrace is used by every pro out there

[Sony PXW-X320] Excellent cover build quality is second to none. It is a bit of a mission to get the cover on the camera so be aware you won't be able to quickly chuck it on your FS5 if it starts to rain all of a sudden like it does over here in Auckland. Never the less minor issue excellent product highly recommend, have one for my URSA mini 4.6k.

[Black] Its about time someone made a bag that the camera can stay built.

Thats why I love it. Also it is big enough and has external pockets for all my things.

[1.95 lb] This bag fits my FX9 perfectly. My camera has the Tilta cage on it, and a quick-adjust rosette that pushes the handle out by an inch—still fits. I also don’t have remove the eye piece which is awesome. I do have to take the battery off which isn’t an issue to me. The additional compartments as great for AKS. I can fit a few gold mount batteries, small lenses, media cases and tools. I wouldn’t want this case to take up any more or less space—it’s the perfect size.

The materials feel high quality. It feels very snug and secure. I like that the lid can be secured with velcro, a buckle, and the handle/strap. That said, I’m not sure I’d be comfortable sending it on a plane as checked luggage. I’d prefer to have a high quality zipper instead of, or in addition to those options. I also like that it comes with its own accessories like a small flash light, white card, and lens bags.

It feels sturdy, and I feel comfortable stack another bag on top of it.

[Sony PXW-X320] The PMW 350 needs air flow and this cover accounts for that....do not cram your investment in an ill-fitting cover that starves the camera for air...you will regret it down the road!

[Sony PXW-X320] Without instructions I was able to put it on with ease. I was working the NYC Bhangra Holi Hai Festival and it kept my camera spotless! Definitely worth every dollar.

[1.95 lb] This case is really the only thing out there that works well for the FS-7. It is extremely roomy and allows you to store the camera fully setup so that all you have to do is reposition the grip and start shooting. I would like to see some pick and pluck foam included for the price so you can create custom inserts for your needs. It is expensive, but if it protects the camera, it's worth it.
