Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use this as generic HDMI to SDI converter with HDMI Loop out?

A: Yes, the Z CAM HDMI to SDI Converter can function as a generic HDMI to SDI converter with an HDMI loop out when powered through the barrel connector.

Q: 2. Does this take 7.4v power in only(like the zcam body), or it can take 14.8v dc in? thx

A: This unit will handle 6.8 to 16.8 VDC in.

Q: 3. Is the SFP module included and if so, what type of connector does it use? The pictures kind of look like a LC connector.

A: This product has SFP optical connections for Fiber.

Q: 4. The manual doesn't have any info on the audio outputs, I assume they are Balance and Line level?

A: Yes, the audio inputs of the DIGITAL FORECAST X-MC Mini Cross Converter are balanced and line level.

Q: 5. Does the Digital Forcast Bridge M_SH Mini SDI to HDMI Converter support SMPTE Level A & Level B?

A: Yes, this is SMPTE-424M which should be both Level A and B-DL.

Q: 6. Why is this converter box not compatible with the Sony HDR-FX7 camera?

A: The specs for input is shown below, and it specifically says that the Sony HDR-FX7 will not work. It does not say why, but the Sony HDR-FX7 is 1440x1080 which may be the answer. 720 x 480 interlaced (NTSC) 720 x 576 interlaced (PAL) 1280 x 720 / 50Hz progressive 1280 x 720 / 59.94Hz progressive 1280 x 720 / 60Hz progressive 1920 x 1080 / 50Hz interlaced 1920 x 1080 / 59.94Hz interlaced 1920 x 1080 / 60Hz interlaced 1920 x 1080pConnections Input: HDMI Output: 2x BNC connectors for HD/SD-SDI Audio: HDMI audio is embedded into the SDI output. Note: The DAC-9P is not compatible with the HDMI output from the Sony HDR-FX7 camera. The DAC-9P is compatible with other Sony cameras. The Sony HVR-V1 and the Sony HVR-HD1000U have been tested and are compatible with the DAC-9P.

Q: 7. The product dip switches are white over a dark background. The instructions are painted on the product white and dark. For example, 480i/59.94 is painted all white on top. The printed instructions for DIP Switch Settings are all black on the top. Which is correct? It's confusing.

A: I looked at both the Lumantek Unit and the manual and I see why you may be confused. On the orange case, solid white blocks mean on, framed boxes with orange showing through means off. In the manual, solid black boxes mean on, framed boxes with white showing through means off. Lay the manual next to the converter-on the back of the converter, the first 4 boxes are solid white in the up position for 480 AND the manual has the first 4 boxes as solid black in the up position for 480. So the rule of thumb is: Solid White boxes on the converter is the same as solid black boxes in the manual. I use 1080i59.94, so in my configuration, 1 is up, 2 and 3 are down and 4 is up. So that is 1, solid white, 2, boxed orange, 3, boxed orange and 4, solid white. In the manual, that would be 1, Solid black, 2, boxed black, 3, boxed black and 4, solid black. I hope that helps you.

Q: 8. How does this mount? It's difficult to tell with only one product photo.

A: It would slide into the battery slot on the rear, and you would than have the option to power via DC

Q: 9. With this adapter allow 12-Bit ProRes RAW recording over HDMI to a monitor-recorder?

A: The Z CAM HDMI to SDI Converter is an HDMI to SDI converter, and is intended to take the HDMI output from Z Cams and convert it to an SDI 3-G format. If you want to record 12-Bit ProRes RAW from your Z Cam we recommend using your camera's HDMI output to send a feed to the Atomos Ninja V.

Q: 10. Can this unit output all 8 at once from one input? For exmaple if I have an HDMI source, can it output 4x SDI and 4x HDMI?

A: Yes, all of the Lilliput 2 x 8 SDI/HDMI Splitter and Converters' outputs would be active and live.

[12 VDC] I got this test long SDI runs for signal which so far does a great job at. Dip switches in the back to change settings. Being a Converter and scaler that I can use in a pinch is a bonus.

[7 to 24 VDC] I own 2 of these devices. I've used them very often, both as signal testers and as replacements for converters on shows. Great buy.

[7 to 24 VDC] Being able to send an SDI signal out of the Zcam means a step up in quality and reliability. I cringe every time I have to insert or remove an HDMI cable from my camera, hoping I'm not causing any damage to the interface. With this unit I am less worried about accidentally knocking the cable out and really doing some damage. The Zcam probably should have come with an SDI interface but now you can have one at a good price.

[7 to 24 VDC] This was made for connecting my HM100 HD camcorder to my Blu-Ray JVC 2500 recorder. Makes connecting and copying Hi Def video to burn direct to Blu-Ray a snap. It is small and easily protable and half the cost of most converters! Love it and recommend to all that need to convert HDMI to SDI.

[5.8 oz (165 g)] I own a couple of these and they are great devices overall. Along with the conversion I also use them as kind of a kick cable tester. The signal strength indicator often clues me in on whether or not my cable has some kind of problem.

Someone else here said the converter can not do 1080p60 but I am using it with that resolution all the time out of a Roland VR-50HDMKII video switcher. Never had a problem with any output resolution.

One big note on this converter. It can ONLY do 3G-SDI Level A. It does not work with Level B. Otherwise these units have been no problem at all in the field.

Someone else came up with the idea to put a little plexiglass cover on the top to protect the built in monitor. I thought that was a great idea and have done that for my units.

[12 VDC] You just plug it in and it works. The best thing is you still retain and HDMI out while adding SDI out. Great for getting video to two separate devices.
