You simply align the gear teeth with the corresponding teeth on the focus ring of the lens, while aligning the small guide post with the hole in the under side of the lens. The thumb screw should then screw into the proper hole and hold it in place. Once that is done, you attach the manual focus control on your tripod arm to the unit and you're all set.
