Designed to produce a uniquely diffuse look, the Hoya 49mm DUTO Filter for Photographyfrom Hoya 49mm DUTO Filter for Photographyemploys fine concentric lines that have been etched onto the filter surface to generate a distinctly soft image quality. These concentric lines produce an effect where the center of the image remains sharp while the image becomes gradually softer and more diffuse towards the edges. The filter is constructed from optical glass and is mounted within a durable, lightweight aluminum ring that has a hard anodized finish to guard against wear.

[Glass] This is my first introduction to infra-red photography. Hoya filters are always a quality product. I'm still learning how to use this filter most effectively. Fun! B&H is always a class act!!

[0.1 lb] I use this in portrait and figure photography -- works great. Has exactly the effect I wanted.

[0.1 lb] This filter gives a beautiful rounded haze and foggy atmosphere to your photos. I've found it is most effective in brighter conditions as the softening will make sharp images feely a bit blurred At the 77mm size, I'm able to use on multiple lenses and stack with other filters as well to make for some unique stylistic shots.

It may not be an everyday application, but it comes through wonderfully for it's desired intention.

[0.1 lb] Hoya, the brand, is top rate for quality in my book (right up there with B&W), and this filter is nifty because the center area remains normally sharp, while the outer rings or areas go soft, though not abnormally so. Very pleasant results.

[49 mm] I bought this filter for studio portraits and am happy with the performance. It softened facial features and wrinkles, without causing lack of sharpness. I'm happy with it and will use it for my studio portraits, especially of women.

[4 x 4 x 1"] Frosted-type center diffusion filters progressively obliterate the areas of your picture outward toward the edges, converting details to a vignetted, opaque white nothingness. Most over-all diffusion filters spread the highlights into the shadows, killing contrast in the process. This Duto filters concentric rings soften progressively, focusing attention on the central area, while leaving outer areas softened but still recognizable. I use it mostly for product and food shots when I want to subdue the surroundings while keeping the entire setup in play. I shoot individual portraits infrequently, but the Duto adds a nice touch on occasion. I have several diffusion filters, and each fills different needs when appropriate, but Hoyas Duto (center) and Cokins Diffusion Light (full-area) are my favorites.

[49 mm] When shooting infrared with this filter on my GRIII, you can still view and compose image on the LCD screen! Most cameras screens go totally black.

[49 mm] I bought this for studio portrait photography, especially women. It softens and diffuses the image nicely, but I can still sharpen details without any problems. Does the job nicely and makes my female clients happy.

[Glass] I got lots of advice from the man working behind the counter and tried a few shots today. I’ll have to edit for the full result, but so far it’s been working as intended.
