[12 lb (5.4 kg)] Bought this last March,2024 in advance of hurricane season. Luckily, we did not have a direct hit. Having a Yashino 2000 solid state for standby use is reassuring!
I checked the charge on it today and applied load. Everything is up to par.... now to prepare for winter outages.

[12 lb (5.4 kg)] First of all, if you look at the reviewers who gave this caddy 1 star you can see that they don't actually own the caddy. They are just complaining about the price. I do own this caddy. I'm reviewing it based on my experience using it.


I got this caddy as part of a bundle with my JVC GY-HC500 camera. With the bundle, the caddy was included with the camera along with a 1TB SSD at no additional cost! That makes this caddy a great deal if you can get it bundled with the camera for free!


There is a lot to like about this caddy. It gives you the ability to record a lot of high quality 4:2:2 10-bit 4k footage without having to worry about space limitations. You can go up to 60p in 4k with this caddy in the GY-HC500. You can also of course do other frame rates like 4k30, 1080p30, etc. At 1080p30 your recording time will essentially be endless with this caddy and a decent size SSD.


There are a few limitations that I have found while using this caddy. First of all, you have to remove the battery to remove the caddy from the camera. I recommend having the camera turned off while removing it anyway. Another limitation is that you cannot live stream with the camera while also recording to the SSD in this caddy. You can live stream while recording to SD Cards, though. Another thing, in order to get the camera to recognize the SSD in the caddy and be able to format it, record to it, etc. you have to go into the system menu and select one of the system options that include (SSD) in the name. Then the camera will reboot and you will be able to format the SSD and record to it.


Overall I have found this caddy great to use. It's a little less convenient than using SD cards that you can just pop in and out, but it makes up for it by giving you a lot of space to record to when combined with a decent sized SSD. I just wish they would add capability to live stream while also recording to the SSD in the caddy. Maybe some day they will do it via a firmware update.

[12 lb (5.4 kg)] I have used Aja kiStor drives for over a decade and they are still my go to choice for recording on my KiPro recorders. The USB interface is easy to use and converts to USB-C with any readily available USB adapter.

[12 lb (5.4 kg)] Great fit for the SSL-6 with the power supply. It is not a hard case but beause of that it is not heavy. Useful for carrying this small mixer around.

[12 lb (5.4 kg)] Great sounding interface. The mix knob is great to dial in direct vs DAW sound. The 4K button is a bit over the top for me.
It has enough gain on tap to drive an SM7B without any audible noise. And headphone amps work great on higher impedance cans .

[12 lb (5.4 kg)] This is our 2nd reel; just plugged it in and it became available within seconds. We often use it as a safety recording device. We just let it run for a full day so that nothing is missed in the studio.
