[2900 rpm] My intent for this NAS is for Plex and storage of digital photos, but it will do much more. You can read the basic specs on the B&H site or via the manual. This thing is a powerhouse and will FAR exceed my needs, so I am looking forward to finding how to push it further.


A couple of notes: the device comes with QNAP thunderbolt 3 card installed in the PCI 3x16 slot, but it's a 3x4 card and you can move it to the 2nd slot. However, if you plan on getting a dual-slot GPU (as I did), then the Thunderbolt card will no longer fit in the unit and becomes unusable. If you want GPU, consider a single-slot card (there are options in the Compatibility list), or don't use the Thunderbolt card.


Secondly, there's some QNAP documentation issues about whether the unit will upgrade memory to 32GB or more. I was able to insert two 32GB Samsung memory chips to total 64GB (I called QNAP to verify the capacity).


The 6-bay capacity is great. You can add 2 M.2 chips for cache acceleration, then 2 2.5 SSDs and 4 HDDs to use QTIER, where they prioritize hot files (frequently used) and cold files (longer storage) onto SSDs and HDDs respectively. Or go all speed (all SSDs) or capacity (HDDs).


I bought from B&H because they had the unit available at a non-inflated price, and because it shipped expedited by default.

[0.44 lb] I upgraded from a 872XT and this system is amazing. I mostly use it for Plex and some drone video editing. I'm easily able to stream 8k transcoding multiple streams with no issues. My only complaint is it doesn't come with a 10gb Ethernet card just two 2.5gb ones. The old one came with a 10gb interface so this one part seems like a step backwards. Otherwise I'd recommend this unit with no qualms.

[2900 rpm] After replace de synology Ds 1019 due to failure, I did bought the Ds 1520 Which I did replace as soon as I find out that Synology will not let me buy the extra warranty in this unit, when I did talk to 1 Synology technician he told me this unit was having a massive returns due to a hardware failure in some of the units, for that reason I did exchanged it for the very expensive Ds1621xs hoping an amazing 4k capabilities but I was wrong, the cpu doesn't support encoding and others ways to stream your media to different devices, the cpu is amazing but it uses their strength in order to have any video to be streamed, not good and also most of the H265 and up formats are not supported by this nas. It is when I decided to give a try to this Qnap Tvs-h674-i5-32g nas, I was nervous due to the recent ransomware attacks to Qnap but after make a research I did find out that some of those nas were hacked due to lack of protection from their users, even the most commons things were left behind, youtubers and other multimedia pros left behind some of the most important things like protection and with that you can't play with in today's days. Now I have my Qnap Tvs-h674-i5-32g and after fully protected and updated it, I have most of my media installed on this guy and let me tell you something, I feel like I have another YouTube platform, every time I use the Qnapvideo.... Thanks GOD!!! This nas is amazing 0 lags amazing streaming quality on any format, for me this guy is the best of the best, I know the difference in price between the other previous nas is huge, but I see it as an investment in the future of the memories in HHD quality of my family's records and else, this is super future proof and super upgradeable. Also recommend you to make the extra investment in the warranty protection B&H will offer you as soon as you are ready to pay your nas (3 year Allstate warranty) it is $100 and change, Why? Simple: Buy a NEW model vs repair or replacement of the OLD model.GBA!!!

[0.44 lb] Recommended by my IT guy. I bought what he told me to buy. The whole NAS thing was new to me. Once I found the right path to archiving my files, I have been quite happy with the functionality. One thing: I bought two fast solid state drives that go in the first slot of the QNAP. The rest of the slots have slower drives for long term archiving. I NEVER use the fast drives. I have found it's still much faster to work using the computer's built in drive, and then store on the slow drives when I'm done.

[0.44 lb] This is my second QNAP NAS. I had a major hardware failure on my first one and it was sadly far outside of its warranty period. Despite being out of warranty, QNAP support was very quick to help and assisted me in creating a plan to migrate to new hardware. When my new NAS arrived, the migration of my existing drives took a fair bit of work, but QNAP support stuck with me until everything was 100% perfect. This ultimately ended up requiring them to login into my NAS and taking on the task themselves to the tune of a couple of hours of work on their part.

[0.44 lb] This is an absolutely beautiful rig but you could literally build this same NAS from scratch for less than $600. Qnap is pocketing over $1k profit on each system. You put a I3-12100 in a Node 304 and you have the exact same thing. Like exactly.
