The portrait filter has a filter factor of 1.15, so you should increase your exposure by 1/5 of a stop to compensate. Q: 1. Hu guys, I'm after a UV filter for a Canon 16-35 f2.8 II. I think I've narrowed down my choices to: (a) Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital FilterB&H # HOUVH82 ? Mfr # XHD82UV(b) Hoya 82mm HD2 UV Filter B&H # HOUVH282 ? Mfr # XHD2-82UVI'm just wondering what the main difference are between the two.Is it just a case of the HD2 being thinner? Is the Haze on the first one a reference to a colour/effect? Thanks for your help.

A: The Hoya HD and HD2 filters are the same except for their respective warranties. The HD filters has a one year warranty and the HD2 have a limited lifetime warranty. The Haze feature on the HD model is to reduce the hazy effect on a bright, sunny day.

Q: 2. I'm buying a polarizer for manual focus lens, will focus peaking work with a linear polarizer? I'm using a Sony a6300.

A: Yes-focus peaking will work.

Q: 3. Can someone tell me the difference between this product and Tiffen's product?(a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/457543-REG/Tiffen_67LLPOL_67mm_Low_Light_Polarizing.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/457543-REG/Tiffen_67LLPOL_67mm_Low_Light_Polarizing.html/a)

A: The Hoya linear polarizing filter was designed for use on older film cameras - See the following description of a linear polarizing filter - (Two kinds of polarizing filters are the PL (Linear Polarizing) andPL-CIR (Circular Polarizing) filters which have the same effect ofreducing glare, however, there are differences in the way each worksin combination with your specific camera so it is important toresearch and choose the correct version of filter for your camera. Many of today's cameras use semi-silvered mirrors or prisms to splitthe light (a.k.a. beam) entering the viewfinder in order tocalculate exposure and focusing distance. PL filters can sometimesinteract with these light controlling devices to give unpredictableexposure or focusing. If your camera, whether auto or manual, isequipped with this kind of device, we recommend using a PL-CIR filter. Both types of filters allow you not only to remove unwantedreflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc., butalso filter out atmospheric haze enabling colors to become moresaturated and appear clearer with a much sharper contrast. These effects will prove to be invaluable to photographers at anylevel of interest.)

Q: 4. Will this filter have a negative impact on autofocus in a mirrorless camera like the R5?

A: Linear polarizers usually have autofocus issues with DSLRs not mirrorless, so you shouldn't have a problem with the R5.

Q: 5. Does this work for daylight and reversal films like Kodak Portra 160 / 400 and Provia 100F?

A: Yes this can work when shooting daylight balanced color negative or positive films.

Q: 6. Will this filter help with glare on a spotting scope?

A: Yes it will reduce reflected light off water and other reflective surfaces and, depending on the angle of the sun, make the sky a much darker blue.

Q: 7. Will this filter work well with DSLR's as well as digital camcorders?

A: Yes, Hoya UV filters are an excellent choice for DSLRs and digital camcorders.

Q: 8. Hi,i have EOS 80D Canon with 18-200mm lens, what kind of filter do i need to use , what is the best?kind regards Gary

A: At the minimum, the Hoya NXT UV, although the HD series gives you excellent protection, as well.

Q: 9. Can I use this with all canon cameras?

A: You can use this with all cameras on the planet, provided the lens accepts 55mm filters. the filter's diameter (55mm) must match that of the lens (filter diameter is mentioned in the front of the lens).

Q: 10. I am going to use this on an old Konica auto S2. Is this filter appropriate for use on a range finder and will the threads pitch match on the lens? Thanks.

A: I was fairly successful using it without checking through the live view on a Leica 240 MP. I often photograph in a constant desert or sun lit canyon/river area. I first use the filter to look at the scene without the camera lens attached. I could tell where the max effect was in relation to the sun direction (I live above the northern 45 degree lat) and then know that that direction was best for the max. I used old film leica's in a similar manner many years ago too...AJZ

[Warming] I'm using this all the time now in a portrait studio. It seems to control yellow which can often mean additional computer work. First impression is that the photos without this filter seem warmer compared to photos made with it, but I find skin tones are more accurate and pleasant looking with this filter. Like it a lot.
