Styled in a dark gray producer finish, the Genelec 8350A is a single SAM-Series, 2-way active studio monitor designed to provide accurate mix referencing with extended low frequencies and software control capabilities for audio engineers, musicians, and producers in project studios, medium- to large-sized control rooms, commercial facilities, or mastering rooms. It features 350W of Class-D amplification driving an 8” woofer and a 1” tweeter, producing a frequency response of 33 Hz to 22 kHz.

A proprietary waveguide enhances imaging, while the bass reflex port extends the low-frequency response. The die-cast aluminum enclosure is shaped to minimize diffraction and reflections. XLR connectors are provided for the balanced analog input and AES/EBU digital input and output. Built-in signal overload protection enhances dependability and protects the speaker. Rear-panel room compensation controls include levels and high- and low-frequency adjustments. Detailed frequency adjustments and automatic calibration can be performed via GLM (Genelec Loudspeaker Manager) software and the GLM User Kit (available separately). A selectable power-saving mode enables automatic power up/down via a signal-sensing circuit.

The 8350A offers multiple mounting options including an Iso-Pod isolation stand and threaded holes that are compatible with select K&M mounts and various wall/ceiling brackets.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. $2250.00, is that the price of the pair or a single?

A: That is the price of one single 8331 SAM studio monitor. Please discuss pricing with your B&H sales person. Thank you.

Q: 2. DOES IT HAS ACCURATE SOUNDING

A: Yes. The 8331A SAM studio monitor is designed for professional monitoring applications that require precision and accuracy. Using Genelec's SAM technology, Smart Active Monitors have several parametric notch and shelving filters that can be tuned automatically using the Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) software to exactly compensate for colorations generated by room acoustics. This enables SAM monitors to sound neutral and achieve accurate stereo imaging in all acoustical environments.

Q: 3. Are these monitors shielded?

A: No, the Genelec 8030C 5" 2-Way 100W Active Studio Monitors are not shielded. The Genelec models that have an "M" at the end of the manufacturer's item code (MFR#) are magnetically shielded.

Q: 4. How much heat does the amplifier generate? I'm asking so we can properly spec our aircon system

A: The manufacturer has not provided a specification for the amount of heat that the Genelec 7382AP SAM Series 3 x 15" 2500W Studio Subwoofer generates. Genelec does note that this subwoofer is designed for indoor use only and provides specifications for the environment that it can be used in. The permissible ambient temperature is 50 to 95°F and relative humidity 20 to 80% (noncondensing). The amplifier should never be covered or placed it in a closed cabinet. The space must be ventilated or sufficiently large enough to dissipate heat so that the ambient temperature around the 7382AP does not rise above 95°F. The reflex port opening on the enclosure should have a minimum clearance of at least 8 inches to ensure functioning of the reflex port. If the subwoofer is going to be flush mounted in a wall, you must allow for unrestricted airflow in the reflex port and amplifier cooling.

Q: 5. Which do you recommend 8240APM or 8040BPM? ( I'm not mixing engineer. It's for my own project from composing to mastering by myself.?

A: the genelec 8040b i bought a pair and it was the best decision of my whole life the sound is flat but is the real sound obviously you need to start to fix your room with auralex and accoustic things

Q: 6. Is this a good monitor for everyday use on a computer with built-in sound card and 1/8" to dual XLR splitter cable?

A: The Genelec 8020D Studio Monitor (Producer Finish) is an excellent choice for everyday monitoring, and it can be used with your computer's built-in sound card if an audio interface or monitor controller is not an option.

Q: 7. The price is for two monitors?

A: Genelecs are always priced singly; multiply the price by two if you want a pair. If you've never heard Genelec monitors, then you probably will think they're overpriced. But if you have discerning ears, and you do an A-B comparison between any Genelec and any other monitor of equivalent size, you will immediately hear the difference...and it's not subtle; it's not merely obvious, it's startling. Put another way, if you CAN'T hear the difference, you don't need to be spending money on Genelecs. Buy something cheaper. But if you want the best audio monitors in the world, nothing else even comes close.

Q: 8. Would this be a good choice to pair with the 8050A (LRC) and the 8040A (Ls,Rs) for a 5.1 setup in a 15x10 room?

A: The Genelec 7360APM would be a better choice by the specs because it goes down to 19Hz, giving you a lower frequency response. However, your room is not too large, and you may not be driving the 8050 and 8040 monitors to their full volume potential. Since the 7360APM is a SAM sub (DSP/GLM-network enabled and ready for 7.1) it's price point is higher.

Q: 9. Can the ISS be disabled? I see that there's a DIP switch for "ISS" on the back, so I assume that's for enabling/disabling ISS, but I'd like confirmation. ISS is not a feature I need or want. Thanks!

A: An ‘ISS Disable’ switch is located on each product’s back plate next to the other room response controls. First, when the mains power switch of the loudspeaker is set to “ON”, the ISS™ auto-start function (low-power sleep state on/off) of the loudspeaker is active. If this function is not desired, the ISS™ function can be disabled by setting the “ISS Disable” switch on the back panel to “ON” position. In this mode, the monitor is only powered on and off using the mains power switch. I hope this answers your question. Thanks.

Q: 10. Can these monitors be paired with a non-Genelec subwoofer without trouble?

A: Yes, you can pair a non-Genelec subwoofer with the 8020D monitors.

[+25 dBu] These small monitors are tiny but produce very high levels with low distortion and great clarity. Very easy to carry in the bag specific to the model. These are really incredible for the size! I have Focal Twins in the main studio and these in an auxiliary room. The white model is also beautiful and takes very little space on a small desktop.

[Active 2-Way] My studio is small, so this is plenty of low end to complement my 8320A tops. The extension down to 22 Hz helps me clean up LF content I wouldn't have noticed on my old monitors. GLM is fun and easy to use. My latest mixes are holding up really well out in the wild!

[Active 2-Way] I bought these for my small home office. The headline is that these speakers sound close to perfect. Genelec is one of the few companies that provides accurate measurements of their speakers. These measurements have been validated from third parties. The 8030c model measures almost perfectly flat from about 50 Hz to 20 kHz. Horizontal dispersion is also near perfect with smooth downward sloping response. This means that reflected sound will not introduce tonal imbalance if you're listening non near field. It also means that you can equalize these speakers to whatever response you prefer. There are a few minor downsides. First, low bass has significant distortion at high volumes. This is just physics: volume will always be limited by enclosure size and driver diameter. If you use a subwoofer like I do (crossed with 24db slope at 80Hz) and use them in a relatively small room this issue goes away. Second, vertical dispersion is not as good as horizontal. You need for the tweeter to point to ear level at the listening location. Luckily the bottom mount makes this easy. If you want better vertical dispersion you should consider the more expensive coaxial models like the 8331. For my case this doesn't matter.

If you want to research these further just google them. A popular science-based audio review site has these speakers #1 among around 100 tested, if you use them with a subwoofer. They compute a suite of measurements and run these through a preference model developed at Harmon that takes this data and predicts listener preference in a blind speaker test. The model explains 86% of listener preference variance.

Anyway, these are some of the best speakers around and I highly recommend them.

[Vertical] Yes, it was and additional considerable investment.
But this subwoofer with my 8330a work in total harmony.
Whether you use the digital or analog inputs they both sound fantastic.
Highly recommended.

[109 dBA] I have 2 pairs now, they are great products, designed for the pro, the good thing about Genelec is the used market value are very high, so it is also a good investment

[1.8 kHz] I have it setup with my 8341a monitors and they work great. Really opens up the sound space and fills in dips on the freq of the 8341a. You can calibrate it with cross over at 100hz and using symmetrical eq. Before using this setting I didn't realize how congested it sounded by comparison. Must have sub if you are using genelecs with glm. Without it, you are missing a ton of sound, and really you will hear it wimpy without it if you try to go back without a sub.

[0.01%] The 8030C is a fine speaker but it struggles below 90Hz and is hopeless below 60. The 7050C works perfectly with a pair of 8030C. Setting up the phase and sensitivity took maybe 5 minutes. Getting it out of the box took longer. If you have a set of Genelec monitors, especially the 8030 or smaller models, this sub is a no-brainer.

[1.8 kHz] all genelecs that I've worked with have been amazing. great sound quality and precision and inspiring to work with. the only downside is the price which is worth it.

[109 dBA] I have been using Genelec 8010s for 4 years as computer monitors but recent heavier listening overloaded the bass so I splurged on a set of 8030Cs. OMG, a new spring has arrived! A whole complex of midrange, bass, attack, separation has appeared. I never realized what was missing. I am overwhelmed. God, Genelec!

[Producer Gray] I sold my Barefoot Footprint 01 for this sub and a pair of 8330A and 7350A sub and I couldn't be happier! Let me explain why I made this decision.
In the recent months, Sonarworks' SoundID Reference has gotten increasingly unreliable on my M1 Max Mac to the point of constantly having to troubleshoot it. On top of that, the Barefoots have shown some issues producing accurate low end in my small-ish mixing space and I knew that having an independent sub will help a great deal with low-end precision.

Another big deal is GLM, Genelec's own speaker calibration and management system that costs pretty much the same as SoundID BUT is natively integrated in the speakers, gets free updates, allows for MIDI yard stream deck control, and pretty much means that you'll NEVER need a monitor controller again - unless you're planning to get another pair of speakers that aren't part of Genelec's SAM series.

This added value and piece of mind, Genelec's sustainability approach, the 8330s having lower overall distortion than the Footprints, and my low-end now extending all the way to 21 Hz at -1 dB (almost an extra octave compared to the Footprints) all mean that this is pretty much as good as it gets for a sub $4k set of speakers.

the 7350 does an awesome job at extending the 8330A's low-end without making itself known and the automatic phase alignment, variable bass mgmt frequency, GLM, and 7+LFE channel bass management I/O are unmatched at this price.

The ultimate cherry on top is that all the integrated technologies mean that the eventual upgrade to a Dolby Atmos system just means getting more speakers... no extra subs, monitor controllers, etc. My wallet sure appreciates the GLM ecosystem
