Create a soft 180° light source ideal for overhead lighting with the small Chimera Small Pancake Lantern with Skirtfrom Chimera. This model measures 21" in diameter with a depth of 12" and has a flat top that makes it easy to place near a ceiling. Also, this model has a full diffusion cloth and comes with a skirt that features adjustable zippers and touch-tab fasteners so it can be rolled up for control over the light's spread. This lantern is designed for fixtures with wide beam angles or bare-bulb lights and it has a heat-resistant construction that permits the use of lights up to 400W. Additionally, it comes with a zippered storage sack and it works with a range of separately available speed rings for attaching to your lights.

Q: 1. Good ways to gel these? I'm interested in using the pancake with the chimera triolet, either mogul or 2-pin bulbs, but I will likely need to gel it at some point for one reason or another. Do any owners have solutions for how to do this?

A: since it is skirted from 3 sides we need to gel only the 4 th side and the bottom . we normally clip them to the skirting and it works well

Q: 2. can i use this with 500 watts bare bulbs in standard socket?

A: Yes, you can. You will probably need to adapt to a standard medium base bulb, as the pancakes are mogul based. Adapter is easy to find an inexpensive.

A: Yes, the pancake chimera will work with that speed ring but I highly recommend going with a Chimera Triolet light kit. It's only a little more expensive and comes with a better multi purpose speed ring and adapters for mogul base, standard screw in bulbs and 2 pin halogen lamps. Way more versatile for just a little more $

Q: 4. Is there a gel filter holder for this? How do you gel this lantern?

Q: 5. What's the cheapest speedring with a 1/4-20 that works with this?

A: Chimera makes speed rings with a 1/4 thread to that can accept the poles of this lantern. However, the correct model depends on the light being used with it.

Q: 6. Is it really not possible to use a 500 watt bulb in this one?

A: Unfortunately, Chimera does not recommend a 500 watt tungsten lamp to be placed inside of this Pancake Lantern due to the excessive amount of heat that it will give off.

Q: 7. is it compatible with Apurture 300D II? If so, how?

Q: 8. which lights fixtures does this fit? is there a certain size fixture diameter?

A: Many lights can fit on to the Pancake Lantern Softbox. All that is needed is the correct speedring if one is available.The softbox in general is a regular 4 pole softbox. If you do have a specific light in mind it is best you contact us direct via chat or phone.

Q: 9. Hi. Does the Fiilex Q500 or Q1000 work with the Chimera Pancake? If so, what adapter do I need?

A: Yes, you can use either the Q500 or the Q1000 in the lantern.You will need a specific speedring, Fiilex Speed Ring for Q-Series LED Lights B&H # FIFLXA039 MFR # FLXA039Note it is not recommended in general to use a Fresnel type of light in softboxes in general.It will not fill the lantern so light will be fall off on the edges of the softbox.

Q: 10. Is this compatible with the Amaran F22C?

A: No, the Intellytech Chimera Pancake Lantern and Skirt Kit for LiteCloth LC-160 is not compatible on the Amaran F22C.

[White] Overall I really love this, but two things... firstly I saw in another review that they were glad they went with the larger lantern because is barely reaches 4'. I think the 4' is diagonal, not long edge, so it is not really 4' and secondly, you get the impression that it fits any speed ring, and B & H lists several. But it did not fit any that I already had, and one was a speed ring recommended by B & H. You absolutely need to use the Chimera speed ring from Chimera with the spring loaded tabs. Most of the generic ones the holes are too small for the rods. 5

[1.95 lb] This is a great overhead base light. Great for indoor scenes with multiple talent. The skirt can be used in multiple ways. 5

[21 x 4.3 x 4.2"] I have used this on several small sets and have found it to be a great tool. I have put 213 globes into it and was impressed by it's output. Like all the pancakes it has the skirt and is very adjustable. The only downside is it is a bit tough to put together the first time. 5

[21 x 4.3 x 4.2"] Great softbox, didn't really expect anything less coming from chimera. It takes little time to build, well-made, perfect overhead light. Was a little bigger than I imagined even though I had the dimensions, but it's perfect for getting a large soft source. 5

[White] I'm very happy with this Chimera lantern. It's a wonderful tool to create a soft lit area, a beautiful key light or add a nice eye light outside, either with a joker bug or a triolet. The skirt is perfect to control the light spilling around the set, as you can adjust four sides independently. Roll it up to the desired effect. Setting up is pretty easy, and it all packs into a small soft bag. Another fabulous product by Chimera. 5

[1.95 lb] I bought this Softbox to light a group sitting at a dinner table and it works great! With subtle adjustments of the people and position of the lantern, a variety of moods can be achieved. Chimera Softboxes are very easy to use, durable, compact and always deliver a great result. Only downside if I had to pick one is that they take up a lot of space. 5
