The silver Rocstor CommanderX EC31 2TB External SSD Silverfrom Rocstor CommanderX EC31 2TB External SSD Silverutilizes USB 3.1 Gen2 connectivity for fast data transfer. It lets you secure your valuable data with FIPS 140-2 Level 2 validated encryption algorithm AES-256. All data contained on the drive is protected against unauthorized access, including hardware theft, failure of a drive, or drive retirement. The encrypted data cannot be accessed without the use of a unique Secure Key Token Authentication. The CommanderX EC31 is authenticated by a digital key token, which is inserted for authentication, and removed soon after the device is authenticated, and then ready for encrypted secure data transfer. It features a rugged 1.5 lb of recycled aluminum case that can be conveniently stacked or mounted vertically. With its built-in fan-less power supply, the EC31 can be easily moved from one desktop environment to another using the provided Rocstor carrying case.

The built-in power supply offers you the convenience by eliminating the need to carry a non-standard A/C adaptors and cables. The power supply contained in the CommanderX line is auto-switchable and uses any standard computer cable, no matter what country you are in. In addition, due to the heat dissipating automatically through the enclosure, there is no fan installed, which makes the device virtually silent while it is operating.

[Aluminum] Works great with my Macs for video editing. Use Disk Utility to re-format drive for Apple, and it's plug-and-play. Bought to begin editing files on the road and finish at home. Scared by SanDisk reliability and wanted to get full use of Thunderbolt 4. Did not test speeds but it's very snappy. When expanded as in product photo, a small fan cools drive. Collapsing center turns it off and reduces size by a half-inch (to 4.0 inches) for travel. 5

[2 TB] This is an excellent drive, I use it as additional storage on my Xbox Series X - you can't play the new gen games from it, but archiving games on here and moving them to the main storage when I want to play them is a significantly faster than downloading them. Great speed and fairly decent value. Xbox detects it right away and is a speedy transfer. 5

[ SATA SSD ] The Kingston 2TB XS1000 USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 External SSD has worked as advertised for about thirty days or so. I purchased for use as a backup solution in the field. The setup includes an iPhone 15 Pro (iOS 17.2), an OWC USB Type-C Travel Dock supplied by 30W Power Delivery and using its integrated USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C Cable connected to the iPhone, and Angelbird 256GB AV Pro UHS-II SDXC Memory Card, a Delkin Devices USB 3.2 CFexpress Memory Card Reader with a SanDisk 512GB Extreme PRO CFexpress Card Type B, and of course, the subject of this review, the Kingston 2TB XS1000 USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 External SSD. The setup works flawlessly with some observations. Transfer speeds through the described USB hub are about 400 MB/s, whereas, with the SSD plugged in directly to the iPhone, transfer speeds are about double at 800 MB/s. When the SSD is plugged directly into an Apple silicon Mac, speeds are slightly better at about 900 MB/s. The latter is closer to the manufacturer's specified speeds of 1000 MB/s. The bottom line is that the Kingston 2TB XS1000 USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 is a small but mighty SSD that sits somewhere between USB 3.2 Gen 1 and Gen 2 speeds. It is a great solution for use in the field. Note: I used the standard iOS Files App to copy Canon RAW Lite and XF-AVC video files from SD and CFExpress cards. I had no issues copying and moving files around while in the field. 5

[2 TB] I've used this drive for close to a month connected to a Studio Max and am extremely pleased by the overall performance. When loading or storing files, the lag time is negligible. It's like having another internal drive to complement the Max. Quiet, fast and stable. Highly recommend for using with photos, graphics and vids. 5
