Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can someone tell me the difference between this lav mic and the AT829cW lav mic? They are both cardioid lav mics.

A: The AT831cW has a smaller and more compact profile than the AT829cW model.

Q: 2. would this mic be compatible with the canon XA-25...and if so would I need any other accesories to fit?

A: Yes. Be sure phantom power is on. You may need a spacer for it to fit nicely in the XA25's mic holder. I use a rubber pipe spacer from a bicycle light handlebar mount. O-rings will work, too. If you are shooting outside, be sure to get a fuzzy. It won't get all the wind on a windy day, but it will deal with a lot of it.a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/538882-REG/WindTech_MM_25_MM_25_Fur_Fitted_Microphone.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/538882-REG/WindTech_MM_25_MM_25_Fur_Fitted_Microphone.html/aI use a short XLR cablea href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/845562-REG/Kopul_m4003rc_3_Pin_XLR_M_to_Angled.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/845562-REG/Kopul_m4003rc_3_Pin_XLR_M_to_Angled.html/a

Q: 3. does this come with the foam windshield? or do I buy it separately?

A: Mine came with the foam cover. As well as a black Audio Technica zippered bag for the mic.

Q: 4. Does this come with a mic holder if I'm not using it with a shock mount?

A: Yes it does!

Q: 5. I need to practically swallow the 831cW for it to pick up my voice. Is there a omni-directional mic that would work better? What am I doing wrong here?

A: We have not had that issue with our mic , it was purchased as an upgrade from the mic that came with our wireless unit. It was a big improvement . It has always been clipped on tie not the lapel. Cables are very sensitive on all units we have used so don't wrap them. A lot depends on receiver position & how much power you have for system.

Q: 7. How well will this mic work with the lid closed?

A: The mic should work well. It's more a matter of where the mic is positioned and how it sounds. If you are using it to mic a piano, you can try moving the mic to a different position until you achieve the desired sound.

Q: 8. What type of short cable is needed to connect it to a XLR female port on the camera? XLR male to XLR male?

A: The Audio Technica AT875 has a male XLR output, as do all mics with XLR. To connect to a cameras XLR input of similar XLR input device, you will need an XLR male to XLR female cable.Kopul 3000 series cables are a solid choice. a href= http://bhpho.to/1xdCvjQ target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1xdCvjQ/a

Q: 9. Are the ear pads just for show or are they monitor speakers/headphones?

A: This is not a headphone and you cannot monitor sound with it .The pads are there for comfort.

Q: 10. I want to connect this to a computer. Is there an adapter I can get to plug it into a 3.5mm?

A: Use the Comprehensive EXF Series Mini Male TS to 3-Pin XLR Female Cable - 6' B&H # COCMMXF6

I bought two for my 6-ft Kawaii. Sound is wide and surprisingly deep.

The sound is great the form factor is great but it would have been good to have a longer cord by a few feet

We started using these for the guitarists on our church worship team - they work so well we had to get more for the other instrumentalists and vocalists who want their hands free to praise & worship!!
They plug into the mic cable and remove the clutter of mic stands on the platform. They have excellent voice pick up and no big mic in the face!

We use these microphones when videotaping depositions. The quality of the sound is more important than the visual image and sometimes deponents are so soft spoken that only a top quality microphone can pick up there voice. This is the best mic we have found.

I use it as a vocal mic to complement a stand-held PG 58. The Pro8 has the clarity and response that I had come to expect from the Shure, not so for the more expensive ATM 73 which I recently sold. Another important feature is that the mic holder is hinged at the temple. It can be easily moved up out of the way and back again without affecting the gooseneck adjustment. ...and it is comfortable to wear. What's not to like!

Purchased this item to announce high school basketball games over the PA system. The first test was our tournament 22 games in 6 days and it worked great. The sound was clearer than the hand held mic. Would highly recommend. Ron from Missouri

I am a legal videographer. Our Equipment takes a beating and this mic is really tough and is worth every penny. Couple that with the service from B&H... just very good service and products. If it isn't a good product, B&H won't have it in their product list very long!

I have been in search of a headset to do live sports for some time. I tried several head sets (many higher priced than this one) and I could never get them to just work out of the box. My past experiences with microphones had always led me to phantom powered mics and that was the direction I had taken for this mic to start with. Turns out the dynamic mic was the best solution for my situation. I will not overlook dynamics again. I am using this mic with a Peavey PV 6 BT with a USB connection to the computer to interface with Wirecast.
