[1.27 lb] I pre purchased this grip as soon as it was announced and have used it extensively with my SL2 and consider it a must buy for all portrait shots. It is much lighter than it looks and balances beautifully with all Leica L glass. Solidly built and over engineered in typical Leica fashion ( down to the built in spaces to store both the camera and grip pin rubber protectors). It also provides for more battery life useful when out in the field but if concerned about the weight, can also be used without a battery to shave weight off the rig.

[1.27 lb] I was anxious about this purchase after reading several reviews and blog comments where reviewers said the grip is all plastic and did not fit well and wobbled or moved. The one I just received (quickly) from B & H is mostly metal, with great fit and finish. The grip is nicely molded to perfectly accept the base of the camera.Rock solid with absolutely no movement. It is a great help with vertical and horizontal shots. It would appear that Leica has responded to initial concerns and designed another great, professional grade accessory.

[1.27 lb] First off, the build quality is as you'd expect from Leica. It's flawless in that respect. Where this thrives, however, is in allowing Panasonic and Sigma L-Mount Alliance lenses to be used without any power issues. Prior to purchasing this, my non-Leica lenses would cause my SL2 to only shoot in single or 3fps burst mode once the battery reaches 75% or less. After testing this grip, I was able to shoot 1,652 images in High speed burst with image stabilization active the entire time. Even after the second battery reached about 5-10%, high speed burst still worked perfectly. If I detached the grip and used the same battery at that level, the camera would not allow shooting at that speed.

[1.27 lb] All portrait hand-grips are good for that extra control, and this is no different on that part. But the second battery option is great for tripod work, and interval shooting, when it runs awhile, can drain the single battery fairly consistently.

[1.27 lb] Expensive, but worth it. Game-changer, makes the SL-2 feel even more professional than it already is, don't know how I ever lived without this.

[1.27 lb] I bought this for the portrait grip & 2nd battery functionality, however I'm particularly pleased with another benefit... without the handgrip I find the bottom corner of the SL2-S digs into the palm of my hand (when coupled with a heavy lens), the handgrip cures that & makes using the SL2-S a much more comfortable experience. Well made quality item, not as heavy as it looks, but its certainly expensive for what it is!
