A prime medium telephoto distinguished by its bright design and sophisticated optics, the Canon EF-mount ZEISS Milvus 135mm f/2 Lens for Canon EFfrom ZEISS Milvus 135mm f/2 Lens for Canon EFis a Sonnar-type lens offering high sharpness, speed, and accurate contrast and color rendering. The optical design utilizes four anomalous partial dispersion glass elements to nearly eliminate chromatic aberrations and other distortions for clean, well-corrected imagery. A floating elements system is also used, for consistent performance throughout the focusing range, in order to achieve even sharpness and clarity. An enhanced ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has also been applied to significantly reduce ghosting and lens flare for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in difficult lighting conditions.

The manual focus design is complemented by a rubberized focus ring for fine-tuned, precise control over your focus position. Additionally, Milvus-series lenses also feature an equally aesthetic and durable frosted, anodized metal lens-barrel surface along with a weather-sealed construction to protect against dust and moisture.

Short telephoto prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 216mm equivalent focal length.

Impressively bright f/2 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

Sonnar optical concept suits the combination of a large maximum aperture and long focal length, and also contributes to notable sharpness, well-controlled flare, and high contrast.

Four anomalous partial dispersion elements are used to significantly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and color fidelity.

ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.

Floating elements system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range, from 2.6' to infinity.

Manual focus design is benefitted by focusing and depth of field scales along with hard stops at both infinity and minimum focusing positions.

Weather-resistant construction includes internal seals to guard against dust and moisture as well as a blue sealing ring at the lens mount to protect the lens-camera interface.

All-metal lens barrel has a frosted, anodized surface along with a rubberized focusing ring for both durability and improved tactile control.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens compatible with Nikon 2x converter?

A: This teleconverter has not been tested by ZEISS on the Milvus 135 lens, so a recommendation cannot be made.

Q: 2. I have a Canon 6D, I know there is the EF mount version of the milvus, but I really like the manual aperture nikon mount offers for this lens. If a buy an adapter nikon to EF canon, would the image be affected (In a negative way)? Or it is best going safe with the EF mount version but not having the manual aperture feature? Hope somebody can help, thanks.

A: I adapt Nikon mount lenses to EF mounts all the time without issues. It will not effect image quality at all. I do suggest buying good adapters though so there's no play in the lens mounts.

Q: 3. anytime using this for video and feel that it's fine without having built in image stabilization?

A: I think so , for video you should use a tripod or monopod ore a gimbal

Q: 4. When used on A7Rii with adapter, does it provide focus confirmation? Thanks

A: I'm using my Zeiss manual focus lenses on an a7R iii and find the focus peaking assist on the camera indispensable to sharp, sharp...sharp images!

Q: 5. What would be a better option for portraiture, This Lense of the canon 35mm 1.4 ii? (Ps I already own a 85mm)

A: When used with a full-frame camera, a 35mm focal length is a modest wide-angle lens and is well suited for environmental or group portraits. When the same lens is used on a camera with an APS-C sensor, then it behaves like a 'normal' focal length and is suited for head-and-shoulder portraits.

Q: 6. Would this lens work with the Panasonic S1H and a Sigma MC-21 adaptor?

A: You'd be able to mount the lens using the MC-21 adapter, but as with any cross-branded adapters, your auto-focus performance may be compromised.

Q: 7. I bought the Zeiss Mills 35mm F/2 for use on my Nikon D850. However, I can't adjust my aperture or speed or ISO. What's wrong?

A: To use the ZEISS Milvus 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F on a D850, you will need to set the aperture to f/22 on the lens. Then, you may adjust the camera.

Q: 8. When is the lens going to be available?

A: The Milvus 2/135 ZE will begin shipping in November .

Q: 9. Is it only manual and auto

A: The Zeiss Milvus 35mm f/2 ZE lens is a manual-focus only lens, but its aperture can be electronically set, either manually (M, Av) or automatically (Tv, P, Auto).

Q: 10. Do I need an adapter to use this on Nikon Zf? Will it work the same as the manual Voigtlander lenses?

A: To use the ZEISS Milvus 135mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F on the Nikon Zf Mirrorless Camera, you need the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter, BH #NIFTZ2.

[f/2] I shoot a Sony A7Rii and a Canon 5D Mk III. This lens is phenomenal on both of them. It resolves incredible detail on the Sony. In fact, it's my lens of choice over my Sony 85mm Gmaster, Sony 55mm, Sony 90mm macro and the 85mm Milvus. I have also used the canon 135 and as much as I love that lens.....I would say the Milvus beats it hands down. If you need autofocus, then your decision is made for you. Don't expect to get high hit rates of any kind of moving subject with this lens. I shoot portraits and love the amazing fall off and Bokeh this lens produces. It has such a nice distinct look to it. For landscape work the detail stopped down is drool worthy (F5.6-F16) I can't say much about the lens stopped down completely as I haven't had to shoot that situation yet. I have already used the lens outside during a snow storm in Zion National park and it got a proper weather test. All seems fine to me there. Only time will tell though. The build quality on the Milvus line is amazing. It feels very solid, and looks amazing. Even the focus throw is feels high end, as it should considering the price point. Pros Sharpness / Detail Bokeh is smooth and gorgeous Color Contrast Minimal distortion Cons Realistically, I don't have anything negative to say. If I could have autofocus this lens would rarely come off my camera but that's more of a dream than a complaint. I could complain about the price but this lens is worth the money if you can tap into its capabilities. I will add some images when I get back to my computer.

[3.905 lb] A wise person once said to me: "Buy cheap equipment first, learn what frustrates you, then you will know what to look for when buying expensive gear". Chromatic aberrations and lack of fine details were the flaws I did not like in my photos.

I bought this lens for its amazing resolving power and lack of chromatic aberrations. When this lens is pointed directly at a light source, it will hardly veil and control bloom wonderfully. Please look to the uploaded image as a testament to how well this lens performs.

This lens is manual focus only. I found it quite easy to get the hang of and nail focus. The great Zeiss engineering makes it a pleasure to use.

[Canon EF] This is not a walk around lens, but using it for the right subjects there is none better. Perfect match for my Nikon D850. Very happy with my purchase.

[f/2] This Milvus 135 2/135 is the best lens I've ever used. This is one of those products where superlatives may sound exaggerated but in this case you can believe everything you read about it. Image quality is incredibly sharp, colors 'pop'; clarity, contrast - its got them. Images are sharp across the frame. Unless you are planning on shooting a lot of moving scenes don't worry about the manual focus. With time and practice your keeper rate will increase. The build quality and heft of this lens are impressive. All of my Canon glass is 'L' and they are superb in their own right...this Zeiss is simply a step up from them. This quickly has become a lifetime lens. Believe the hype...this is really a great lens!

[Canon EF] I used this lens with my D800, very sharp focus and colors are wonderful, I like background and foreground diffusion and images are 3 dimensional, I own Nikon 85mm F1.4 g, but this lens is way better for portrait. This my 1st manual focus lens, I like it. I'm now fan of Zeiss, and will be adding more prime lens to my collection

[3.905 lb] Zeiss overall is the best in the industry. Anyone and everyone knows that. Now for this lens. It's great! The focus ring is very smooth and accurate. Wide open it's extremely sharp. The quality and difference with the picture taken SOOC is awesome. It's a great foundation for editing and to make your images pop. It is heavy. But again you get into that with this particular lens and quality. The hood I have mixed feelings. With the great glass and coatings theres no flare, CA, etc. With the size of the lens I really don't think you need a hood. So it's more of a personal choice at this point. Works great though. Snaps in really well, all metal construction. This is a lens that you keep. It's an investment. Main uses: Portraits ONLY. Wedding Portraits and Engagement Portraits in particular. I say this cause of the manual focus. Grown adults know how to hold still. So you can really zero in on focus wide open or any AP for that matter. Kids and family, I would say no way. Just not going to happen with this lens unless you're a freakin stallion with focusing LOL .

[19°] I'am an amateur enthusiast and have just recently purchased the Zeiss Milvus 135mm ƒ2 lens and use it with a Nikon D850. This lens is spectacular in every way. I was worried I would not be able to adjust to the manual focus only of this lens, that is not even a concern a little practice and familiarization will yield incredible results. Please don't let the manual focus deter you!!!. I don't have much knowledge of all the technical aspects of this lens but this is a special very useful lens and you will love it. See sample.

[135mm] I received the Zeiss Milvus 135mm f/2 this morning. I tested it outside on my RRS tripod, hands-free, with a 3-second delay on the electronic shutter. I focused on my Spyder LenCal. Additionally, I also took test shots of tree bark to verify the outstanding micro contrast this lens captures. This is a phenomenal portrait lens - pristine even wide open! The contrast starts to noticeably slightly fall off with diffraction at f/10. I took test shots at every 1/3 stop from wide open at f/2 to f/22 - attached are samples of just a few. The first image shows the full view capture at f/2 of the target positioned 10 feet away from my D850. The following images are 100% crops of the labeled full-stop apertures.
