A prime medium telephoto distinguished by its bright design and sophisticated optics, the Nikon F-mount ZEISS Milvus 135mm f/2 Lens for Nikon Ffrom ZEISS Milvus 135mm f/2 Lens for Nikon Fis a Sonnar-type lens offering high sharpness, speed, and accurate contrast and color rendering. The optical design utilizes four anomalous partial dispersion glass elements to nearly eliminate chromatic aberrations and other distortions for clean, well-corrected imagery. A floating elements system is also used, for consistent performance throughout the focusing range, in order to achieve even sharpness and clarity. An enhanced ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has also been applied to significantly reduce ghosting and lens flare for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in difficult lighting conditions.

The manual focus design is complemented by a rubberized focus ring for fine-tuned, precise control over your focus position. Additionally, Milvus-series lenses also feature an equally aesthetic and durable frosted, anodized metal lens-barrel surface along with a weather-sealed construction to protect against dust and moisture.

Short telephoto prime is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 202.5mm equivalent focal length.

Impressively bright f/2 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

Sonnar optical concept suits the combination of a large maximum aperture and long focal length, and also contributes to notable sharpness, well-controlled flare, and high contrast.

Four anomalous partial dispersion elements are used to significantly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and color fidelity.

ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.

Floating elements system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range, from 2.6' to infinity.

Manual focus design is benefitted by focusing and depth of field scales along with hard stops at both infinity and minimum focusing positions.

Manual aperture ring has clicked indicators throughout aperture range. Using the included De-Click Tool, this ring can be mechanically 'de-clicked' for smooth, silent rotation throughout the aperture range; making it ideal for video applications.

Weather-resistant construction includes internal seals to guard against dust and moisture as well as a blue sealing ring at the lens mount to protect the lens-camera interface.

All-metal lens barrel has a frosted, anodized surface along with a rubberized focusing ring for both durability and improved tactile control.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Any difference between this newly released one and previous one? Is the lens designed again

A: The ZEISS Milvus 2/135 ZE shares the same optical design as the 'classic' version of the lens, with additional improvements in the anti-reflective coatings, a weather sealed barrel and a focus ring that does not telescope, allowing for use with a follow focus gear when using the lens for motion capture.

Q: 2. Is it only manual and auto

A: The Zeiss Milvus 35mm f/2 ZE lens is a manual-focus only lens, but its aperture can be electronically set, either manually (M, Av) or automatically (Tv, P, Auto).

Q: 3. Is this lens fully compatible with Nikon FE? (will it allow using it in A mode)

A: Using this lens in full manual mode on the Nikon FE would not be a problem. However, it may not work in Auto mode.

Q: 4. Is this lens compatible with Nikon 2x converter?

A: This teleconverter has not been tested by ZEISS on the Milvus 135 lens, so a recommendation cannot be made.

Q: 5. When is the lens going to be available?

A: The Milvus 2/135 ZE will begin shipping in November .

Q: 6. Hi, I have nikkor 24-70 f2.8 and I am wondering if there is a clear and basic difference between this lens and my nikkor for upgrading

A: There is not a straight forward answer on this one. You are comparing a zoom work horse with autofocus to a fixed 35 with a stop of light gain and manual focus. You have to really enjoy manual focus to love this lens. But as far as images, they have a unique look that can only be seen/ experienced. When i first got it I agonized over samples and pixel peeped to try and justify it's price. At pixel level this image will not blow you away, however when you look at the overall image (combinantion of sharpness, color, contrast, bokeh) it's amazing. The bokeh is the best I have seen of any 35, it just looks natural. and you can put people at the edges and shoot wide open knowing they will be sharp and not distorted. Really a great lens that I love shooting with once i looked at the images and not the pixels.

Q: 7. Aperture

A: The ZEISS Milvus 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF has an aperture range of f/2 - f/22.

Q: 8. I bought the Zeiss Mills 35mm F/2 for use on my Nikon D850. However, I can't adjust my aperture or speed or ISO. What's wrong?

A: To use the ZEISS Milvus 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F on a D850, you will need to set the aperture to f/22 on the lens. Then, you may adjust the camera.

Q: 9. What would be a better option for portraiture, This Lense of the canon 35mm 1.4 ii? (Ps I already own a 85mm)

A: When used with a full-frame camera, a 35mm focal length is a modest wide-angle lens and is well suited for environmental or group portraits. When the same lens is used on a camera with an APS-C sensor, then it behaves like a 'normal' focal length and is suited for head-and-shoulder portraits.

Q: 10. How many aperture blades, and are they curved?

A: The ZEISS Milvus lenses; like their Zeiss Classic predecessors, have 9 aperture blades.

[135mm] Most people are concerned with sharpness. I have never had a 35mm prime that's sharper wide open at f/2. When mounted on a 60mp sensor camera this Milvus delivers the same amazing resolution at f/1.4 as my $6K Leica Summilux FLE. The trade-off in this case is probably weight, it is quite heavy/bulky for a f/2 35mm prime. Perhaps this lens phenomenal performance helps explain the absence of Zeiss Otus 35mm - there's simply no need, no room for improvement over this Milvus. Frankly, for roughly a thousand dollars this lens is a bargain, if you don't mind the weight.

[77 mm (Front)] I hope these images help give you a feel for this lens with only a 30 mgpixel Canon 5d Mkiv. Can't imagine what 50 or 180 megapixels would look like. Fyi-Technique matters.
B&H customer since 2008 or 9. Great service!

[Full-Frame] This is my first Zeiss lens; it will not be my last. Unlike so many lenses being sold today that struggle even on a 24 MPix camera, this lens will fully resolve and utilize all or very nearly all the pixels on today's cameras (24, 36, 45 MPix). Import an image shot with this lens to Adobe Lightroom and compare the image without and with lens profile corrections. The difference is all but imperceptible, confirming the ultra-low distortion and chromatic aberration specs. This is a lens that will last a career. I continue to shoot on Nikon DSLRs; this lens should be fully usable on Nikon mirrorless with the FTZ adaptor.

[Manual Focus] I have owned this lens for some time now. First with my D850, then on my Nikon Z7. Now I am getting an adapter for my Leica SL2S. A soft falloff wide open and the focus throw allows for precise focus. With zoom magnification and focus peaking on mirrorless bodies it is a real pleasure to use. The colors and sharpness are already great OOC. I owned the Otus trio and sold them because they were clinically too perfect (not to mention HUGE). I am migrating to lens' now that have some character. This Milvus exhibits character. It should pair well with the SL2S.

[3.9 lb] This lens is unappreciated because it's manual focus and I understand why Manila focus when we live in a era of top notch autofocusing. Well I have this paired with my EOS R6 and Manual focus on this camera body has gotten a little better and faster. The color rendering and overall tone sets this lens apart I definitely recommend this lens if you are up to the challenge to manual focus.

[3.9 lb] I have 10 lenses - they are all super sharp. This Milvus 135mm is by far the sharpest of the bunch (even sharper than my Milvus 100mm macro). Far too heavy for me to handhold, but on a tripod, produces finely focused pix with eye-popping color and definition. LOVE this lens - easily justifies the $$$ spent.

[f/2] The way this renders light to the sensor is simply stunning. Yea, give me good resolution...it's very sharp....but the colours and micro contrast and gradations in the image are unlike anything I have ever used. Using it on the Z9 along with the Nikon 50 1.2...which still seems excellent, just not quite so excellent. I get some artistic presentations of light from this lens that other lenses just don't produce. The manual focus is actually very workable with the way Zeiss has implemented it.
