This 35mm f/1.2 prime is designed for APS-C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a slightly-longer-than-normal 52.5mm equivalent focal length.

Exceptionally fast f/1.2 maximum aperture affords a high degree of depth of field control, to suit selective focus shooting, and also benefits working in low-light conditions.

Two aspherical elements are featured in the optical design in order to minimize spherical aberrations, increase sharpness, and provide even illumination from edge-to-edge.

One extra-low dispersion element is used to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy.

An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and a neutral color balance.

Manual focus operation allows for precise control with a minimum focusing distance of 1.25'.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the lens hood removable?

A: Yes, the hood is bayonet mounted, can be removed and reverse mounted for more compact storage.

Q: 2. How does the manual focus work? Is it fast?

A: What body do you have? I have a Fuji X-T1..So manual focus would work a different way than on a Sony.

Q: 3. How does it feel with firmware 1.3 on S1 / S1r?

A: Currently, the feedback we have received with the newest firmware on this lens has been positive.

Q: 4. Will this work on the Sony A6600 camera body?

A: Yes it will!

Q: 5. I'm in the market for a decent wide-angle prime lens for my Canon 5D Mark III. I want to use this lens for both wide-angle landscape photography as well as astrophotography. Given that I already have Canon's 24-70mm, f2.8 lens, my questions are: (1) would the Rokinon 20mm, f/1.4 manual focus be a good candidate?; (2) is 20mm wide enough or should I go down to say 14-18mm?; how does this Rokinon lens compare with Canon's EF 20mm, f/2.8 USM lens in terms of usability and quality? Thank you!

A: With astrophotography, the wider the better. You may want to look into a 14mm or Canon makes some great 16-35mm 2.8 zooms that would be great for astro and landscape work.

Q: 6. Are there click stops for intermediate apertures? 1/2 stop? 1/3 stop?

A: Yes, at full and half stops.

Q: 7. Is this lense compatible with my GH4 camera?

A: This lens will be compatible with the GH4.

Q: 8. Are these lens compatible with Olympus OMD EM10 camera?

A: I really don't see why it shouldn't be. All of the Rokinons are manual focus, non electronic, and a micro 4/3 mount is a micro 4/3 mount. Same flange to sensor distance for all. No mirror to swing and hit a protruding rear element of the lens. Etc. perhaps Dave M could explain, please.petez

Q: 9. Will this lens work the electronics of a metabones or sigma adapter for the sony e mount?

A: No, the Rokinon SP 35mm f/1.2 Lens for Canon EF will not work with the electronics for a Sony adapter.

Q: 10. manual focus only?

A: Hello Roland;Yes, I purchased this lens for my Fuji XT 1, but not the CS Cine, my experience is, it is all manual everything, I second D. Brent & Dan P. answers.

[Sony E] Images from this lens look outstanding. The sharpness wide open is very respectable, and you be hard-pressed to complain about it from f/2.8f/8. There is some color fringing in high contrast areas, but still very well controlled. Shooting plenty of video, I have noticed that there is slight focus breathing on the lens, but its only apparent if you rack focus from infinity to a close subject quickly vice versa. Build quality is solid. Using the focus/ aperture rings are a pleasure and I'm a huge fan of the look of that metallic red ring :P infinity focus is not at the hard stop but thats not an issue for me. The lens fits snuggly on my a6500. The only complaint would be that the lens hood and rear lens cap are pretty loose.

[f/1.2] I bought this lens with some experience using manual lenses before. Once mounted on my EOS M3, the lens feels solid and focusing was not a problem using the integrated magnifier and peaking focus option. The use of Canon EVF-DC1 viewfinder is also strong recommended. Lens focus ring is a little tought and it has a long travel from minimum distance to infinity, but enough to focus with precision. With that on mind, I purchased this lens only for adult portraits and pics of static objects. It's not suitable to shoot children or action photography. Prior to this lens, I had been using a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM with EOS EF to EF-M adapter. The 50mm 1.4 was fine an easy to use but its image quality is average to my taste, specially with apertures below 2.8. This rokinon shines in IQ from f2. Sharpening and contrast are aceptable at wider apertures, and always better than the Canon and with smoother bokeh. Vignetting is also visible, but nothing to worry about it. Overall, is an excellent performing lens and optically superior to use than the Canon standard lens.

[f/1.2] I've seen a review of this lens that states it's sharper than Fujifilms own 56mm f/1.2...I don't know for sure but this is a very nice sharp lens (as they say, for the money)....or for any amount of money..Try it, if your not happy with it just send it back..

[Manual Focus] I am pretty shocked at how fantastic this lens is optically. It is amazingly sharp edge to edge right at f1.2 and really doesn't need to be stopped down. The Bokeh quality it top notch and the colors and contrast are great. Mechanical operation is solid and smooth and the build is very good. The only drawback for this lens is that for micro 4/3, it is fairly big and heavy. But, that can also be said of the closest AF lens alternative, the Panasonic Leica 42.5mm f1.2. You probably know this is Manual only lens. So if you aren't comfortable with that, this is not for you. With many of the newer cameras, focus peaking and center magnification make it easier, but it's still not as nice as a quick AF button (or face detect AF since this is most likely a portrait lens). TL;DR - If you are OK with a manual only lens, this definitely holds its own against the super expensive Leica 42.5mm F1.2 and the best AF lenses in the system. It's simply superb.

[APS-C] I took advantage of Wanda's black Labrador puppy on Saturday while she was out shopping. He's ordinarily hyper, but tends to pout while she's not home. Given my fair eyesight on a good day, I knew I wouldn't come away with many keeper photos having to manually focus them @ F1.2 under dim light. These photos of Raven are among the first I ever took with this lens, and it's been at least 20 years since I've manually focused any lens.

Labrador Retriever puppies are notorious for untidying home interiors and keeping them that way. This lens's F1.2 ability came in handy in defocusing the background in the one photo.

[9, Rounded] Despite some comments of not-so-great fit, I did not have any issues. Great sharpness. Easy to find exact focus even if manual. Focus ring moves smooth enough but not too fast.

[Manual Focus] The Rokinon 50 1.2 surprised with top-notch performance wide open, little chromatic aberrations and no vignetting. It's the best performing 50mm I have used on the a6300 so far. If you can deal with the lack of AF go for it! Manuel focus feels smooth and built quality is excellent.

[1.265 lb] I use this lens with a Sony alpha 6000. The Lens is incredibly sharp, with little to no barrel distortion or chromatic aberrations. It is a prime lens, and it does not connect electronically to the camera -- this means manual focus only and no EXIF information stored on the shots as to the lens and aperture used. If this is OK with you (it is with me), then this is a great lens. I now use only Rokinon / Samyang prime lenses in addition to the 55-210mm Sony zoom lens for wildlife shots with the a6000. Some people have noted that there should be a distance scale to help with estimating the deapth of field, but after having had the lens for a while you will develop a good intuition for this anyway. One thing that could be an issue some months / heavy usage down the line: f numbers and focusing distances are painted not etched into the lens, so they could wear off after a while I guess.

[Manual Focus] I bought this along with the Sigma dc dn art 30mm 1.4 for my a6300. Optics wise I would choose this over the Sigma. The Rokinon is heavier with a plastic body and yet still nice feeling .There is little purple fringing wide open on high contrast scenes and it is completely gone between f2-2.8. The sharpness and contrast throughout is fantastic. I was surprised how well it did at 1.2. There is no noticeable distortion. The colors are great. The bokeh is very smooth. One of my favorite lenses I have ever owned. I plan I using this for Product shots, video and portraits. Remember if you buy this it is for apsc not full frame. Also manual focus only, which is very smooth. I would 100% recommend this lens. I posted a photo I took with it!!!
