The Vortex Razor HD 22-48x65 Spotting Scope Straight Viewstraight-through-viewing Vortex Razor HD 22-48x65 Spotting Scope Straight Viewis engineered with superior glass and specialized optical coatings to provide clear and bright images at all magnifications. The triplet apochromatic lens configuration is made of high-density (HD) extra-low dispersion (ED) glass to increase light transmission, minimize distortion, and virtually eliminate chromatic aberration. All air-to-glass surfaces have Vortex's XRPlus anti-reflective coatings to minimize light loss and maximize image brightness, while the Porro prisms have highly reflective dielectric coatings that improve brightness, clarity, and color accuracy. This combination of coatings and optics creates a spotting scope that produces bright, clear, high-contrast images with accurate color rendition.

The lightweight and armored magnesium-alloy chassis is O-ring sealed and argon filled to be water and fogproof. A helical focus system, with a wide adjustment collar, allows for fast, yet fine focusing even when wearing gloves. The scope has a 1/4"-20 tripod mounting shoe and a tripod collar that rotates to permit the eyepiece to be positioned in the best viewing position. A retractable lens shade helps to reduce glare while keeping snow or rain off the objective lens.

[65 mm] Used the new spotting scope to zero in an FAL at 100 yds and a sporterized M1917 in 300 Win Mag at 200 yds. Excellent clarity in overcast conditions. Very happy so far. Still need to try out the scope while hunting.

[5.715 lb] The zoom, width of view, clarity and ease of use all exceeded our expectations. I read several reviews and comparisons of birding scopes (Audubon society, etc.) before deciding on this one. Since it was not possible to see/compare any myself I was a little nervous about choosing one but as it ended up, we couldn't be happier. It's our first scope with angled viewing (now a must), and since it's not too big or heavy for toting around we plan to try taking it on more outings. In addition B&H had the best price and provided good service.

[22 to 48x] This is a great spotting scope. It is well designed and well made. I bought it for birding and general wildlife viewing. I have also used it to look at the moon and for star gazing. I have been very impressed. It is light enough to easily carry into the field. It is very easy to use. i have been impressed by how clear it is, even in low light conditions. I have not been able to compare it to other brands, but it would be difficult to see how any other scope could be noticeably clearer. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

[22 to 48x] I got this scope because my old scope was too heavy to lug around any distance in the field, especially with my aging body. This scope is very lightweight and also has good clarity at the highest magnification. There are a couple slight negatives: The eyecup is an old style roll-back rubber that is awkward to work and the lens cover doesn't fit when you have the eye cup retracted for glasses. Also, the supplied travel cover is poorly designed, it is impossible to keep it on and easily focus the scope while the cover is rolled back to allow viewing. I will probably have to remove the cover.

[22 to 48x] I'm very happy with the spotting scope. I wanted something small enough to pack in for glassing on hunts, but good enough glass I could still use as a spotting scope for shooting 30 Cals out to pretty good ranges. I haven't gotten the chance to do distance shooting with it yet, but I was able to read residential street signs and numbers without much effort at ~.55 miles away. Optically, the glass is phenomenal. While this in no way competes with a higher end 20-60, you'll still see just as much with this as a $300 20-60, in a package that you can toss in a backpack. The 11x is great for glassing without a tripod. My only complaint is the eye relief at 33x is short. I wear glasses and found it easier just to take them off to look through at 33x. It's fine at 11.

[17.0 to 16.7 mm] I live near a wetland and wanted a compact scope I can easily walk around with to explore birding spots. I had been using a Celestron Hummingbird 9-27x56 and loved the form factor but decided I needed higher quality glass. This little Vortex Razor is a huge upgrade. The image is as sharp as the name Razor suggests, the FOV is pretty good for a such a small scope, and the magnification range, while fairly modest, is more substantial than it sounds. I had a chance to compare it side by side with my friend's Swarovski ATS 25-50x65 viewing shorebirds about 500ft away and was astonished by how comparable the magnification level was at 39x. If I have anything to complain about, the focus and zoom rings are quite stiff, not smooth and buttery like the Swaro's. However it is not a deal breaker and perhaps with time and continued use the problem will fix itself. I have noticed a small amount of chromatic aberration in certain conditions but for 90% or more of my usage it is virtually absent. Overall I'm very pleased with this scope and look forward to many more outings with it.

[Straight] Love the size and weight. Fits backpack perfectly. Very sharp images from low to high power. Works great in low light. It would be nice if the scope had a twist up eye cup but not a biggie..
